9/10 If anyone here can read Arabic, would you mind telling me what the
gist of /csua/tmp/pic.jpg is? I got it at a flea market in
southern Spain (no, it's not a pilot's manual.) -John
\_ The first few lines are the start of a prayer; I'm assuming the
           rest follows along.
\_ Thanks! It's hanging in my hallway, so I was curious. -John
           \_ It's not just "a prayer". it's al fatihah:

it is the first surah of the qur'an. for an interpretation:

\_ Cool, thanks. I read a translation of the koran a while
ago, and didn't think of comparing it. Is the weird-
looking writing at the top of the image one of those bits
of arabic at the beginning of every surah that nobody can
interpret? I seem to recall reading something along those
                   lines. -Rev. John

1/4 Why the fascination with blowing up airplanes? Airports have tight
security. It doesn't seem worth it. It's far easier to derail a
train or set off explosives in a crowded place like a theater or
sporting event. As many or more people will be killed and it will
still make the news. I don't get why all of our security, and
apprently much of the terrorist's resources, is focused on airplanes.

In one classroom Saturday, when UNRWA schools reopened, a Palestinian
teacher was filmed asking children about their trauma during the war.
The unidentified teacher then told the children that Palestinians have
to "wage war against them (Israelis) until they leave their land," and
asked her students, aged about 8, how they should react.

Back The ideas expressed in the books by Subagh are not necessarily the views of the publisher. Liaquat Samma In the name of Allah (the one God), the Rehman and the Raheem (The Provider of everything needed little by little and very much) Chapter 1 Al-Fatiha (The Victory- giving Chapter) (It opens the door of Deen (the code of life), the right way and gives victory over wrong ways of life) 1:1 - The praise (and appreciation) is for Allah (the Authority who gives guidance and commands everything),Rab (Lord and Master of everything known in the universe who helps everything grow physically and mentally). Deen means law, a way of life, or a set of guiding principles in life. Judgement doesn't seem to be appropriate here because Jaza or Hisaab are not used. Comments: The theme here is "Guidance to the straight path to follow it". God's purpose is that all humans must follow His straight path instead of the path of the human's leaders and their forefathers. His way is the establishment of His deen, the code of life. The process is explained by mentioning the pre-requisites of praising the law and declaring it, promising to obey and ask for His help in establishing it in the society, and desiring to know the whole set of rules to follow. As a contrast the wrong ways of life are also described. It is also explained in the beginning that God is the authority to give the law, the provider of the guidance in every necessary way, and the king of the time when only He should be obeyed and none else, for example the leaders of the humans. All the words used relate to the guidance and its credibility. The law is common in the use of all the attributes of God. Allah is the lawgiver, Rab is the lord and master who issues the orders, Rehman and Raheem show His kindness to the needed command for the good of the humans, and King shows the implementation of the law. This system of life was established during the twenty-three years of period under the Prophet of God, Muhammed (may God bless and help his message to spread). The theme is given in the last verse after developing it gradually and logically.
