7/19 Isn't there an airport tax at SFO where every departing passenger needs
to pay? I can't find any info on http://www.flysfo.com Thanks.
\_ Sorry for my previous incorrect comment, all enplaning passengers
pay a Passenger Facility Charge of $4.50.
           http://www.southwest.com/travel_center/pfc.html
\_ Thanks! I thought it was in the neighborhood of $50.
\_ Thanks! I thought it was in the neighborhood of $50. -- OP
\_ There are other fees as well (landing fees, etc.) that the
airlines pay, and that are therefore factored into ticket prices.
\_ Yes, but I just wanted to find out how much I can expect to
pay at the check-in counter. -- OP
\_ You don't pay anything when you check in. It's included
in the cost of your ticket. http://csua.org/u/r68
                    \_ Wow! Thanks. -- OP
\_ Landing Fees are paid when/where you land, not
                 when you take off.
                 \_ you are a genius
\_ I am glad someone finally recognizes this.

2/26 How does a hot air balloon pilot control the flight path? I'd think
one can only control the vertical movement using the flame. Thanks.
\_ You move vertically trying to catch wind currents blowing in the
           direction you want. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_air_ballooning

Government-Imposed September 11th Security Fee - Effective for travel purchased on or after October 1, 2003, the Government will impose a September 11th Security Fee on all tickets including Rapid Rewards Awards and Companion Pass travel redeemed on or after that date. Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) - Fee imposed by an airport on enplaning passengers. When departing from or connecting at any of the following airports, that airport's PFC will apply in addition to the fare. Government-Imposed September 11th Security Fee The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), a new division of the Department of Transportation, has mandated that all US airlines add a security fee to all tickets sold on or after October 1, 2003. This government-imposed fee, called the "September 11th Security Fee," will be used to pay the government's cost for providing Federal civil aviation security services. This includes training, salaries, and benefits for the Federal security screeners and law enforcement personnel, as well as the Federal Air Marshal program. In other words, if you fly from Dallas to New Orleans and change planes in Houston (which means the flight number will also change) - you will be charged $5. The fee will be collected from all Customers at the time of reservation. com or call Reservations at 1-800-248-4377 to make your Award or Companion Pass travel plans and to pay the government-imposed September 11th Security Fee by credit card. Once you complete your reservation, you can elect to receive a receipt, via mail, e-mail or fax, with your confirmed flight information. Customers who have made a reservation on or after October 1, 2003 and have not paid the security fee will need to go to the ticket counter to pay before entering the secured gate area. You also have the option of obtaining a boarding pass at the E-Ticket Check-In kiosk in order to proceed through security. However, Companions and Companion Pass Members will still need to checkin together at the Skycap Podium, Ticket Counter, or at the gate. As always, when checking in, a government-issued photo identification is required along with the plastic Companion Pass card and Rapid Rewards membership card for Companion travelers. This will assist in smoothly refunding unused September 11th Security Fee funds or applying them toward other travel plans. If you give your Awards to friends or family members, please make sure they are aware of this fee and process.

Issuing carriers shall be responsible for all funds from time of collection to remittance. The appropriate charge is the PFC in effect at the time the ticket is issued. Issuing carriers and their agents shall collect PFCs based on the itinerary at the time of issuance. Any change in itinerary initiated by a passenger that requires an adjustment to the amount paid by the passenger is subject to collection or refund of the PFC as appropriate. If the ticket purchaser is not permitted any fare refund on the unused ticket, the ticket purchaser is not permitted a refund of any PFC associated with that ticket. Issuing carriers and their agents shall note as a separate item on each air travel ticket upon which a PFC is shown, the total amount of PFC's paid by the passenger and the airports for which the PFC's are collected. For each one-way trip shown on the complete itinerary of an air travel ticket, issuing air carriers and their agents shall collect a PFC from a passenger only for the first two airports where PFC's are imposed. For each round trip, a PFC shall be collected only for enplanements at the first two enplaning airports and the last two enplaning airports where PFC's are imposed. In addition to the restriction in paragraph of this section, issuing carriers and their agents shall not collect PFC's from a passenger covered by any of the other limitations described in 1589 Collected PFC's shall be distributed as noted on the air travel ticket. Issuing carriers and their agents shall stop collecting the PFC's on the charge expiration date stated in a notice from the public agency, or as required by the Administrator.
