Sacred Review Posted by: Jetherik on Thursday, May 13, 2004 - 01:07 PM Many reviewers have called Sacred the game that Diablo 2 should have been. I cannot say because I did not finish playing Diablo 2 In many, many ways the two games are very similar but Sacred has enough differences to make Diablo 2 fans want to play it.
E3: Super Mario Brothers DS Posted by: bapenguin on Thursday, May 13, 2004 - 11:24 AM Isn't it ironic. Nintendo wanted to create the DS to force developers to make new innovative games. Yet, they returned to their roots with the announcment of a Mario Brother's game for the Nintendo DS (not that this is a bad thing). The graphics look sweet, and hopefully more information is coming later.

The ESPN Videogames website has a bunch of E3 media from the upcoming 2005 lineup of titles. ESPN NFL 2005 looks especially good this year with an even beefier broadcast system, new animations, and custom soundtracks for XBox. I'm also a fan of the ESPN Hockey series (it's the best hockey sim out there). And this year's looks to be solid as well with a bunch of new animations, custom soundtracks and a beefier Skybox.
"The player uses their entrusted machine called a "High Mac" (High-Mobility Armored Combat System) to fight the battery of armed soldiers and sinister machines that await them on the battlefield. Boasting full XboxTM Live compatibility with a multi-player online mode and a variety of exciting missions, the new GunGriffon offers an exhilarating and unique spin on mech action games" Now bring that Monster Rancher game to Live!
The footage is pretty amazing, the models are very high detail and both the NPC's and enemy AI seem to move and behave in a pretty realistic manner. If you have seen the E3 videos from last year, you won't really see anything "new". There are just lots more scenes of City 17, the updated Headcrabs, the big bugs and Gordon driving around in the Jeep. It was a little disappointing after nearly a year delay in the game to just see "more of the same". The couple of seconds of Counter-Strike running on the Source engine at the end of the video is just amazing. The level they showed, de_aztec, looked like it was totally updated with new textures and objects, but the character models and weapon models were the newly updated models from the current version of Condition Zero. It looks like it will add new life to a title that is STILL the #1 online shooter and it should really energize the CS Mod community. Word on Shacknews was that Half-Life was also updated to the Source engine. If they took the time to retexture and remodel the levels the way they did with de_aztec, it would be a product worth purchasing a second time. Lets hope Valve has the insight to take that extra time with an older game. It looks like Valve has some great products baking in the oven. Lets hope that they can turn up the heat and get them done this year.
Gamespy has a E3 preview and screenshots of Bioware's upcoming RPG, Dragon Age. "This is a spiritual successor to all or our recent games," said BioWare cofounder Greg Zeschuk. "This melds the fun of party interaction from Baldur's Gate, the community and multiplayer aspect of Neverwinter Nights and the tactical combat of Knights of the Old Republic. We wanted to take all of that and put it together in a new game that was our own."
"The bleeping sound tells you you're about to play a variation on one of the classics - Space Invaders. But when the graphics appear, it isn't green aliens advancing at you, but white blocks with dollar signs on them. "" I know this could turn into a big heated discussion, but since when have EA people been afraid of some good old fashioned political debate?
Pure Evil - Downtime Posted by: EvilAvatar on Thursday, May 13, 2004 - 01:28 AM Sorry for the downtime tonight, there was a problem at the host end of things that corrupted the site IP address. By default, their server will then redirect you to their homepage. It is still down for me, but it looks like a few people are able to see the site again.
Of course, the most interesting new feature to Rise of the Kasai is the two-player co-op gameplay. But rather than limit a couple of buddies to a single screen and a halved perspective, Kasai's cooperative action is reserved for online play only. Because of this approach, team tactics and clever use of resources is the key to advancing forward and players will find themselves in few areas that don't require two characters. But in the off-chance that gamers are playing alone, they'll always have use of the other character anyway -- only this time controlled by an advanced artificial intelligence that reacts pretty realistically to every event I think Mark of Kri is the most under appreciated game on the PS2. If the sequel can re-capture the magic of the first one (which it looks to do, and then some) this will be a runner for my PS2 game of the year.
