1/2 Hey, I thought we were having a draft in 2005. What happened? Will
there be a military draft in 2006?
\_ Whoever said there was going to be a draft way back when was
overreaching almost as bad as the greeted as liberators person.
\_ Only if Charles Rangel (D - http://www.house.gov/rangel gets his way.
           \_ Damn warmongering Democrats.
\_ It's funny, but the reasons he gives for it are as a social
program (like busing) and a way to make people not want war
(they won't vote for war if their kids are in the service).
\_ I remember the reason why Rangel draft the bill is he wants
to make sure the process of draft is relatively equal, and
wealthy kids have their chances to see actions.
\_ Wealthy kids volunteer for service so they can be officers
or protect the homeland as part of the NG.
\_ There will be no draft because Dubya said so. Read his lips.
\_ There was one MOTD poster who swore there would be a draft.
Silly me, I thought he would be more credible than Dubya.
\_ that guy was saying that if we need to do this Iraq business
right, we need to have a draft to fill the gap in man power.
In that regard, he is still right. The reason why we don't
have a draft is because Dubya decided it is ok if Iraq really
fells apart, and he can always divert our attention to
somewhere else by, let say, bombing Iran.
                 \_ Nice revisionist history.
\_ Perhaps you can point us to the thread? Things like the
                    following seem more prevalent:
\_ ohh yeah? what happened to the "beacon of democracy
in the middle east?" are you saying that we've
accomplished this and this is why Rummy pulls out
                       5000 troops?
\_ Good job trying to switch the subject. Try to focus
on the draft here. You want to talk about Rummy?
Start your own thread about your pretty nicknames.
\_ Reference please. Things like the following seem more
                    prevalent:
                    http://csua.com/?entry=37623
At that point (5/05), someone claimed there would be
a draft within the next 18 months. Does that person
(-vet?) still stand by the claim?
\_ Are you claiming that the US will bomb Iran? Care to put
a time frame on that prediction and sign your name to it,
so you can be properly celebrated when your prediction
                    comes true?
                    \_ http://www.aljazeera.com/me.asp?service_ID=10415
\_ So? Are *you* claiming that the US will bomb Iran?
Time frame and name please, if you're willing to
                          stand behind your prediction.

recruiting \_ ^"The^"A -- A single incident reported by CBS news (and not \_ ^"The^"An -- A single incident reported by CBS news (and not confirmed by anyone else) is somehow indicative of behavior of the entire organization? But hey you can just attack the news organization and ignore reality if it makes you happier. Would they do that if they didn't have a suspicion that it might be indicative? It says they are "expected to" not that they have done it. Asserting that the claims are true and represent a general population is not. "The Army said it is investigating the allegations", "A senior Army officer said Wednesday that the "stand-down" is being ordered not only because of possible misconduct but also because the service has had a difficult time attracting volunteers. htm \_ Vietnam \_ According to Kerry supporters, the draft was going to come back this January if Bush got reelected. Military folk are already pissed about being redeployed over and over again. Hiring more recruiters doesn't help when people simply aren't signing. Either we declare victory and pull out, or we get a draft. My time frame only extends to the end of his term, though. Are you saying that there is a > 80% chance we will withdraw or draft before the end of his term? I do agree that in the 5-20 year time frame, we will either withdraw, draft, or make joining the Army more palatable. Some of the Chinese vet I've talked to said that when they capture mercenaries, they would just kill them, period. and FYI, These vets are Nationalist troops operated in South East Asia in the 1950s. Or, ship inmates from over-crowded California prison or Guantanamo Bay to Iraq & chain them together to do dirty and profitable work that Halliburton is doing. com/id/6027815 \_ No where in this article does it mention Jan 2005. So you agree that Kerry supporters claimed that Bush will reinstitute the draft, and your only disagreement is over the time frame used by the Kerry people. And I think Bush will re-instate the draft in the next 18 months. That's the great thing with concrete predictions about the future -- they can eventually be verified or discredited. Once again we Democrats have done good for the American people." recruiting/ WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The US Army plans to stop recruiting activities for one day this month to review procedures that its 7,500 recruiters use, an Army official said. Michael Rochelle, head of the Army Recruiting Command, is expec ted to make the announcement, which could come as early as Thursday. The move follows a CBS News report of least two allegations of recruiting abuse. In one case, the network reported a recruiter suggesting how a potential volunteer might cheat to pass a drug test, and in another, a sergeant th reatened a prospect with arrest if he didn't report to a recruiting stat ion. A senior Army officer said Wednesday that the "stand-down" is being order ed not only because of possible misconduct but also because the service has had a difficult time attracting volunteers. With the war in Iraq, recruiters face increased pressure to meet their re cruiting goals. The Army has missed its recruiting targets for three mon ths, and the National Guard and Army Reserve also have fallen short of t heir goals. The purpose of halting recruitment for a day is to refocus recruiters on their mission, reinforce the Army's core values and ensure its procedure s are carried out consistently at all 1,700 stations, an Army spokesman said. The procedure is highly unusual for the Recruiting Command, but "safety s tand-downs" are routinely ordered in military aviation following a serie s of accidents that appear to have a common thread. In the case of aviation, pilots and air crews are grounded for a day whil e they review proper procedures. An Army official could not say whether a recruiting stand-down has been ordered before. html CBS Evening News report HOUSTON -- There's been a swift response from the US Army following an exclusive 11 News Defenders investigation into allegations recruiters ar e going too far to sign up new soldiers. Late Tuesday afternoon, 11 News confirmed the US Army will now call for a nationwide stand-down of all recruiting efforts in what a spokesperso n at the Pentagon calls a serious step at self-examination. Thomas Kelt refused to comment on any of the questions asked by 11 N ews Defenders. The Army will set aside a full day on May 20 as the day to have every rec ruiter across America review Army recruiting policies and standards. It' s an effort to stop overly aggressive recruiting tactics. Nationwide, the Army wants to make sure men and women who become soldiers do so without being threatened. Listen to recruiter's voice mail message The announcement comes just one day after the 11 News Defenders exposed a Houston Army recruiter threatening to arrest a local young man if he di dn't report that day to the army recruiting station. Thomas Kelt left this message on that young man's cell phone: "Hey C hris, this is Sgt. Okay, I know you were on your cell probably and just had a bad connectio n or something like that. Anyway, by fe deral law you got an appointment with me at 2 o'clock this afternoon at Greenspoint Mall, okay? That's the Greenspoint Mall Army Recruiting Stat ion at 2 o'clock. Now, Army recruiters across America will take a day to focus on what 11 N ews uncovered here in Houston and what others have found elsewhere in an effort to restore integrity to recruitment. We're told that stand-downs like this are typically only done when the mi litary experiences an increase in accidents or other systemic problems. This one, in particular, is an effort by Army leaders to reinforce Army values and ethics in its recruiters. The Director of Selective Service is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The legislation under which this agency operates is the Military Selectiv e Service Act. Under this law, the mission of the Selective Service Syst em is twofold: to deliver untrained manpower to the armed forces in time of emergency in accordance with requirements established by the Departm ent of Defense, and to administer the alternative service program for co nscientious objectors. A system of conscription was used during the Civil War and again during W orld War I with the draft mechanism in both instances being dissolved at the end of hostilities. In 1940, prior to US entry into World War II, the first peacetime draft in our nation's history was enacted in respon se to increased world tension and the system was able to fill wartime ma npower needs smoothly and rapidly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. At t he end of the war the draft law was allowed to expire, but it was reenac ted less than two years later to maintain necessary military manpower le vels as a result of the Cold War. From 1948 until 1973, during both peac etime and periods of conflict, men were drafted to fill vacancies in the armed forces which could not be filled through voluntary means. Inducti on authority expired in 1973, but the Selective Service System remained in existence in a "standby" posture to support the all-volunteer force i n case an emergency should make it necessary for Congress to authorize a resumption of inductions. Registration was suspended early in 1975 and the Selective Service System entered into a "deep standby" posture. Beginning in late 1979, a series of "revitalization" efforts were begun in an effort to upgrade the Syst em's capability for rapid mobilization in an emergency, and in the summe r of 1980 the registration requirement was resumed. Presently, young men must register within 30 days of their 18th birthday. The Military Selective Service Act, along with its implementing regulatio ns, provides that the structure of the agency will include a National He adquarters, a State Headquarters in ...

DICK CHENEY dropped a bombshell, hinting that Iran was "right at the top of the list" of the rogue enemies of the United States, and that Israel would, so to speak, "be doing the bombing for us", without US military having to ask them "to do it". "One of the concerns people have is that Israel might do it without being asked... Given the fact that Iran has a stated policy that their objective is the destruction of Israel, the Israelis might well decide to act first, and let the rest of the world worry about cleaning up the diplomatic mess afterwards," (quoted from an MSNBC Interview Jan 2005) Amid numerous media reports predictions that the United States, backed by Israel, will launch a military strike, targeting Irans nuclear sites in 2006, Germany's Der Spiegel suggests that speculation about a US attack against the Islamic republic is particularly rife in NATO-member Turkey. Der Spiegel stated that Washington has been holding talks with allies in preparation of an air assault on Iran, the Deutsche Depeschendienst, Germany's second leading news agency, reported after DPA put out an article by Udo Ulfkotte, a former editor for one of Germany's main dailies Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) and an intelligence service, warning of such attack. s Central Intelligence Agency Director Porter Goss asked Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan to support the air strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities in 2006 and that by stepping up the exchange of intelligence. Over the past few weeks, DDP says, Washington contacted the governments of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman and Pakistan seeking the same kind of cooperation. During his Istanbul visit, Goss gave Turkish security services three dossiers alleging a link between Iran and Al Qaeda network. A fourth dossier focuses on the Iran's nuclear program, which Washington and Israel claim is being used as a guise to hide Irans attempts and efforts to develop nuclear bomb. German intelligence sources revealed that the CIA director affirmed that he would inform the Turkish government several hours ahead of any attack. He also, according to the sources, sort of green-lighted almost simultaneous Turkish attacks on camps in Iran run by the PKK, the Kurdish separatist organization, which is weird because the PKK runs its camps out of northern Iraq and has no such installations in Iran. On the other hand, a German military officer who demanded anonymity stated that "It would surprise me enormously if the Americans did not use this pretext supplied by Teheran. The Americans must attack Iran before it develops nuclear weapons. Earlier this year, Seymour Hersh of the New Yorker wrote that American commandos were on reconnaissance missions inside Iran, selecting military targets. But predictions of an imminent military strike by the US against Iran centers more on developments in Turkey, the article says- and that due to the repetitive visits of high Bushs administrations officials and NATO officials to the Turkish capital. Just few days ago, the FBI Director Robert Mueller, Director Goss and then NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer visited Turkey. CONDOLEEZZA RICE dropped in on Turkey after her visit to Berlin. Moreover, numerous reports on Turkish newspapers have been speculating about preparations for an attack on Iran, however all of them arent based on any hard facts. Recently, Cumhuriyet, a leftist nationalist paper ran a front page story with this headline: "Now its Iran's Turn," commenting on a meeting between Prime Minister Erdogan and Director Goss, who also met with Turkish Intelligence Services (MIT). Also earlier this month, Yasar Buyukanit, the head of the Turkish Army and likely future military Chief of Staff, paid a visit to Washington, after which he declared that relations between the Turkish and US Armies are once again excellent, after being in deep freeze for some time. But many diplomats suggest that Erdogan and the Turkish military are worried about the situation in the entire region should the US or Israel strike Iran. And some experts have warned that any strike against Iran's nuclear facilities would be very unsuccessful. BUSH made it clear few days ago that in case Israel decides to attack Iran, it will have the US full support to destroy the Islamic regime's capacity to make an atomic bomb. PRESIDENT BUSH first expressed cautious solidarity with European efforts, led by the EU big states; But later, he said that all nations should be concerned about whether Iran could produce nuclear arms. "Clearly, if I was the leader of Israel and I'd listened to some of the statements by the Iranian ayatollahs that regarded the security of my country, I'd be concerned about Iran having a nuclear weapon as well. And in that Israel is our ally, and in that we've made a very strong commitment to support Israel, we will support Israel if her security is threatened." let everyone remember bushs new years resolution on this day. bush promises to conduct a military "offence", in every town, city, and village in iraq, and rid them of all insurgents. this means the american military will have no regard for civilians, just like in fallujah. take note that bush has taken it upon himself to make these offenses, without confering with the iraq government first. in the coming days, the american military will probably use uranium bombs, napalm, and white phosphorus, on every civilian neighborhood in iraq. you are mending a trousers even before the baby is born. why can't the people of the middle east be calm for a short while so that we can see what other people are doing. another source, claimed to be an insider in "western security circles" without being specifically named but was reported to be at least six years old was quoted as sayin "hey mr. this statement was an obvious reference to secret talks to gain french support for the invasion plans, but does not reveal a specific date for the attack. if iran is so keen and verbal to destroy israel, then surely israel has the same right to get iran off the map of the world. as long as we have gwb there is nothing to worry about, he will do what is right ignoring the ignorant. let them also fulfill their prophecy, that all gews all round the world come to their promised land. and from that promised land all will go to that promised he1l. the united states can in fact attack iran and we will if they do not stop their nuclear program. iran was attacked by iraq once and their army was destroyed. the only thing that was left is a large group of people who usually only carried the and no weapons. but they would all die against the superior might of the united states military. those me have to be together to succesfully attack anyone. but if they were to group together the also superior united states air force would bomb them. america has six hundred thousand troops and estimate we would need three hundred thousand troops to invade iran. mahmoud adinejad president or the state or iran the state of denial the state of confusion the state of ignorance. first of all the reform movement in iran would very much welcome some outside help in ridding them of the mul lahs who make their lives so miserable. therefore the us would not need to do an all out invasion and liberation. it would be enough to take out the s by smart targetting and then letting the people rise up locally. the military who are mostly ordinary citizens - as in iraq where the army would not fight for sad man - would not do much to defend the s the military would join the people in overthrowing them. none of iran's neighbours would be at all interested in helping out the persian s they would secretly applaud regime change. remember that noone came to the aid of the taliban and noone came to the aid of sad man - except for the loonies later on. barbara i support you fully to bring this guy to justice. bush is not alone he has some bunch korks with him along side, we should try bring everyone to justice. aras your comment is absurd, the zionists have been killing arabs for 57 years, your hatred should be directed at the american zionists that started all that bloodshed by colonizing palestine. i won...
