5/18 Freepers, um, "respond" to immigration plan
        http://wonkette.com/politics/dept%27-of-messy-breakups/beloved-right+wing-message-board-demands-bush-impeachment-261439.php
\_ Is this the move that will drop his approval ratings to sub-Nixon
           numbers?
\_ You're not thinking far enough ahead. All but one of the
2008 R candidates has come out against this bill. This will
fire up the base and enable them to rant and rave about how
THEY wouldn't have sold the country down the river for them
damn Mexicans if THEY had been President. This is a parting
              gift from Dubya for em.
\_ Ezra Klein has a good take
                 http://csua.org/u/iq0 (prospect.org)
\_ It's still above congress' approval. However, "the base" that
will leave Bush has already done so. I can't imagine it'd go
              lower.
\_ There are no Freepers on the motd. We used to have one and then we
had several fakes and now we fortunately have none.

2/26 I have dual citizenship. If I leave US and enter country Z, is
there a way I can make the immigration booth "stamp" both passports
(not necessarily stamp, but electronically record) such that both

country Z and head back to US, only provide the US passport? I'd

After the jump, we'll hear from some of the other hundreds of furious "freepers" who just figured out George W Bush could give a shit what they think. This bill wont go anywhere when our representatives start receiving our faxes * The rule of law has just been thrown out the window. I want them home now, why fight and die for this country of Mexico. I just can't believe I worked so hard to get this man elected not once but twice. NEVER AGAIN - no more money and no more volunteer hours for the grand ole GOP * His brother Bill was the first black president, now we have the first Hispanic president. Our champion has become our betrayer, IMHO * My husband just recently retired and we where planning on going back to Texas but we are now seriously considering Australia. I see the end of my great nation, the shining star in a morass of mediocre to outright scum countries. At least Clinton stuck to BJs instead of trying to f*ck the entire country, like Jorge. These people feel they are above the law and can do as they please. Right now these Washington jackasses are NOT paying attention to Iran because they are too busy making life easier for the RICH in MEXICO. we where planning on going back to Texas but we are now seriously considering Australia. " They may be exciteable but you can't say they don't have a flair for irony. Mr_Eac says: What that commentor said is not an indictment of all crappy grins, is it? I remember when most people liked the commander in chief that had a self-flattering smirk. Those were some good times, and I hope that the next president of the US comes into power they will not make it harder for people like me to smile in public. Makes me want to repeal the 22nd amendment just so I could not vote for him. Won't the illegals have to get in line behind the enviro/feminists/2nd amendment haters and their trained animals to kill us? The_Lev says: I'm done with him on this and many other issues. Ignoring the last sentence, this is a very curious statement. This is what happens when you kill 40 million unborn US citizens. Geez, how can you plot a straight line between abortion and immigration? With the right wing, I guess everything they care about is necessarily interconnected. Same with the next one: Look this is what it all boils down to, these people in Washington are no different than the celebrities in hollyweird, they do not respect the rule of law or the ten commandments. Yep, I do believe that the fifth commandment covers immigration. The sixth covers tax cuts, and the seventh is that stupid "thou shalt not murder" one. A fake war, shitting on the US Constitution, thousands of deaths don't mean nottin'. But show a bit of mercy on some brown folks and the fuckers wanna throw the chimp out. Loathed by smart folks, non-whites, sane folks, poor people and anyone who isn't an asshole. Now potential targets of Lynching by the halfwit Faux watchers. DigitalLogic says: "My husband just recently retired and we where planning on going back to Texas but we are now seriously considering Australia." Wow, I didn't know there was a Republican equivalent of "I'm moving to Canada if he's re-elected." DigitalLogic: Actually, Republicans should consider moving to Canada. PM Stephen Harper is an ardent admirer of George W Bush and he's a pro-life, evangelical Christian and Iraq hawk. Which is why his government is probably going to be terminated very soon. Omnilation says: What is it with insane right wingers and biZaRRE UsE oF CAPS? Seriously, this isn't the first, second, or even the 100th time I've witnessed this strange phenomenon. Prozac says: Wow, I hope these people don't find out that there are what George the Elder calls "brown ones" in the Bush family itself. I think I'll kill my gardener before he murders me in my sleep - right after he finishes trimming the hedges. Tommmcatt says: Ah, there is no schadenfreude like the schadenfreude you feel when gazing upon gibbering idiots or their collective works Thanks, Wonkette, for a nice afternoon pick-me-up! Dubya loves the illegals because he wants to generate an underclass of people who can labor but can't vote. Watch for his next move to restrict citizenship to the offspring of immigrants. I can't pick a favorite: "the 40 million unborn babies killed": wow, what haven't these little fuckers caused? good thing we killed them before they were born or they'd be wreaking destruction right and left. ": besides the beautiful irony of the statement itself, there's the irony that Australia doesn't want them any more than they want the Mexicans. So this is what it takes to make them want to end the Iraq war. Hans_Auff says: There must be a pic somewhere's of the Dry Drunk Guy smacking one on the cheek of his now deposed El Presidenta bud. Put that on a billboard in the heartland and sit back and watch the fun. dealbo says: I'm done with him on this and many other issues. This is obvious to those who think, but the Europeans are the illegal invaders that wiped out the native population. But it's not the same the darkies are massacred, am I right folks? Lionel Hutz says: Listen, let's just get the freepers some tequila, and have them take a siesta, and they will feel a lot better about the whole thing. But just imagine how upset they would be if el Presidente had led us into a foolish occupation of an Arab country based upon mistruths and crooked intelligence. The_Lev says: "BUSH SUCKS" And the leftists blogs are now PROUD of this fool! I'm glad they're on board on the first part, but I don't grant their premise for the second. Since when has the lefty blogosphere had anything nice to say about George Bush? First they complain about how the left tries to tear down our commander-in-chief, now, they're doing it for us? schvitzatura says: "This is a bill where people who live here in our country will be treated without amnesty but without animosity" But with "extreme prejudice", perhaps? Ewalda says: Just read the gazillion comments on Free RepubliKKK. Or whatever heads filled with Survivor and American Idol and Jerry Falwell do in these circumstances. thechansen says: @DigitalLogic and The_Lev You are on to something here. Fuck, I'll be a tranny (I'm looking at you HillDawg) in the White House if it gets the neocons and right wingers out of this country. I can see it now, "Kids we are going to some place Awws Trail Ya, at least they speak a form of AMERICAN there. And you know what, Mel Gibson is from there, it'll be fun!" trai_dep says: So the scary question is whether these people find members of the opposite sex to breed with. Or maybe this is why lap dancers do so well within a certain limited segment of our population... swizzard says: my nephew has been ordered back for the second time after being home for only 10 months. I want them home now, why fight and die for this country of Mexico. disgustedcitizen says: I'm late reading this post, but oh, my god, I am going to be grinning all day to day. The one semi-nice thing the shrub has done in 6 years as preznit, and he looses his remaining 28%. Cape Clod says: If these clods actually moved to Australia, I don't think that they could bear the cultural dislocation. Down Under, the McDonald's serve Coca Cola in cans rather in paper cups with tons of ice. Also, water whirls down the toilet in the opposite direction than it does in the Northern Hemisphere. I'm afraid that they would find it difficult to adapt to such significant and jarring realities. Mardam says: It shocks me, though I guess it shouldn't, that these people don't mind sending our young men and women into battle for a lie (or lies, as the case may be), but as soon as a brown person shows up next door it's time to bring 'em all home. sluggo says: "The invasion of the United States by the criminal army of Aztlan is complete." These person are going to be really torqued when they learn that the legislation requires anyone with a car on blocks in the front yard will be required to post in Mexican. Dragonfruit says: We still have Tancredo, Hunter and Fred Thompson on our side. This bill wont go anywhere when our representatives start receiving our faxes Pardon me, but how exactly...

But this is a more complicated win than it appears at first glance: There's concern among certain liberal groups that if you drop the guest worker program too low, you simply amp up illegal immigration, which is actually worse. The House will spend June creating their own version of the immigration bill under the leadership of Zoe Lofgren, a Silicon Valley Democrat (so expect a much greater number of visas for high-skill workers in the final bill) and former immigration lawyer. She'll be under heavy pressure from unions and left-leaning groups to use Luis Guttierrez's STRIVE Act as the basis for her bill. long list of cosponsors ranging from Rahm Emmanuel to Dennis Kuncinich to Silvestre Reyes to Jeff Flake, has a few advantages over the Senate bill, the most notable being its treatment of guest workers, who, after 5 years, $500, and evidence of English and US history classes, can apply for citizenship. If such a bill is adopted in the House, the legislation will move to Conference with the Senate, which the Democrats control (liberals will remember the many times that Republicans used Conference in recent years to make compromise bills into conservative wish lists). Current thinking is that Bush will sign just about anything that emerges from the process, be it far to the left, or, as with the Sensenbrenner bill he approved last year, far to the right. One last thing: The folks I talked to believe this is the year. The particular political circumstances we're in are nearly unique: Bush has nothing left to lose but his involvement still provides cover for Republicans, Democrats can get an immigration bill without full ownership over it, the space is open for the subject because the President won't allow action on other liberal priorities and the Congress won't countenance any conservative agenda items, and so on. RNC defending a bill that, were it offered under a Democratic president, they'd be tearing apart. Meanwhile, this just won't be a priority for the next president: President Democrat will want to do health care, not amnesty, and President Republican will want to get reelected someday. cgi/14481 COMMENTS I believe Bush will be likely to side with the angry Repubs instead of 'staying the course' on immigration and supporting a bill. As you mention on your blog, the Repubs are in revolt now and the anger will grow not subside. Bush has to keep the Repubs with him to sustain his position on the war, exec. authority, and moves by the Dems against his administrations unlawful actions. won't want to take on an messy battle that will be purely partisan in 09, with the '10 and'12 Congressional elections ahead. Immigration is becoming another third rail not to touched, like Social Security. May 18, 2007 05:32 PM Holding it for the next administration and Congress is actually a great opportunity for the Democrats to enlist Hispanics in their camp for the foreseeable future. May 18, 2007 05:46 PM Ezra, I 'sketched' a plan for your consideration. By addressing immigration reform over a period of several years, Hispanics will remain in the Democratic Party fold, even if Bush were to use his veto pen. The Democrats need only to show that they are willing to go to the mat on immigration. In contrast, the GOPers utilized their "magic carpet ride" in last year's election and which was never addressed by our fellow Democrats. The '86 Act carried many suspicious antecedents as it worked through committee, but proved to be very good legislation that likely could not have been accomplished under all-Democratic auspices. But going into 2008 the Republican hitmen will make a lot of noise about how the liberal elitists sold out Amuricun workers to the multi-culti lobby-- oh, and did you know they want to take yer hard earned money (if yer still making any) to put their kids through bilingual ed, thereby dividing the country and bringing about the end of Amuricun civilization? The final version better have a shit pile of labor protections.
