\_ Can we institute a 24 hour moratorium on discussion of the games?
Feel free to talk about the England game or something. Weekend games

Feel free to talk about the England game or something.
Weekends excepted.
\_ Okay, no problem.
\_ I won't mention the team names, but when two teams play to
a scoreless draw and the articles about the game say things
like how "fast and furious" the play was and how it was a
classic I realize that even though I like (and played)
soccer, the game kind of sucks. How does the rest of the
world get so into a game where a scoreless draw is not only
a possibility, but seen as a good sign of two team's abilities?
\_ What article said that? Neither team particularly cared to
win that match since it didn't matter.
\_ Yes, meaningless games are what makes the World Cup
so great!
\_ If two really good teams work really hard at scoring and
yet simultaneously prevent each other from scoring, how is
that not incredibly exciting? Frankly, I find this much more
exciting than the NBA, where the game comes down to who
messed up and didn't make the matching goal; it's almost as
bad as bowling.
\_ I can appreciate good defense. A no hitter in baseball
is exciting. What is not exciting is that it's a
scoreless *tie*. Please play until someone scores. Hockey
can get away with ties, because 1) at least they have
the concept of overtime, 2) the ties are rarely
scoreless, and 3) even if they are there are usually
more shots on goal that the goalkeeper actually has
to save. In soccer, one team scores a goal and then
plays defense the rest of the game. That's a
disservice to the phenomenal athletes.
\_ This is the first round. Each teams plays three matches
and scores match points based on how they do; the
teams with the most match points in their groups move
the second round. From the second round forward, the
rules change:
"If, after 90 minutes, a match ends in a draw, extra
time of twice 15 minutes will be played. If the score
is level after extra time, penalty kicks will be
taken to determine the winner (cf. Art. 17, par. 2,
and 3 of these Regulations)."
Now, if you want to argue over the fairness (or sanity)
of ending a match through PKs, brother, you're preaching
to the choir. If you really want to know why people
riot after WC matches, look no farther.
\_ I think they should decide it based on corner kick
differential over the course of the match.
\_ The first round is odd in the respect that it
actaully encourages scoreless ties. In the
tiebrakeing process, a scoreless tie is worth more
that a scoring tie.
\_ How so? |

11/19 Steve Levy >> Joe Ayoob
Its funny how Tedford put him in for like two plays at the very end of
the game (when we were up by 24 points with like 30 seconds to go).
-mrauser
\_ Levy really didn't throw very well, and the offense didn't
move very well until the game was in hand. I'll give him
kudos for winning his first collegiate start, but I haven't
seen anything to indicate he's better than Ayoob. (Ayoob has
six wins). -tom
\_ Levy just doesn't have the brain freeze that Ayoob does.
Ayoob kills the team with mistakes.
\_ Levy fumbled deep in our own end with the score 6-3.
He also threw an interception when we were in field goal
range when the score was 13-3. -tom
\_ And yet still made far fewer mistakes than Ayoob has
been making.
\_ His mistakes didn't happen to cost us, playing against
a weak team. Ayoob had five victories in a row over
weak teams. I don't think Ayoob is great, but Levy
is not a real QB, and if we go into a bowl game with
him at QB, any decent defense will put a spy on him
and he will be in trouble. -tom
\_ You are right that Levy is not a 'real QB'. I
think he sucks. Yet, I'd still rather have him
out there over Ayoob. Only one turnover in the
entire game. Levy tries to do less than Ayoob
and that helps the team more.
\_ Ayoob has had one or fewer turnovers five times
this year. -tom
\_ And 7 INTs in 2 games, which sent him to
the bench.
\_ He threw four INTs in the USC game. One
was when he and the receiver didn't
agree on the route (if Jackson had turned
the route up, it would not have been
intercepted). One hit the receiver in
both hands, but went through his hands.
One was a desperation play at the end
of the half, and the other was on fourth
down. It's not clear that *any* of them
constituted a mistake on Ayoob's part. -tom
\_ You've got to be kidding me. Let me
guess: Ayoob is your cousin or something.
\_ let me guess; you don't understand
the difference between a decision
and a result. -tom
\_ Ayoob's decision-making is terrible.
\_ It's at least as good as Levy's.
-tom
\_ Based on what?
\_ Based on knowing a lot
about football, having
season tickets, and
watching the two of
them all year. -tom
\_ If you're defending
Ayoob then I have
to question your
credentials as
someone who 'knows a
lot about football'.
His play is
inexcusably terrible.
\_ His play has not
been good, but he
won six games.
Levy against
Stanford never
went past his
first read, and
had serious happy
feet in the second
half. 8 of his
10 completions
were dumpoffs or
short outs, and
he telegraphed
every pass. Even
the TD pass to
Jackson was badly
underthrown,
although I wouldn't
exactly call that
a mistake since
it was a good
matchup for us
in one on one
coverage. -tom
\_ What about the fumble in the USC game?
And don't even get me started on the
OSU game. He should have been pulled
after that fiasco. |

5/20 For the person who was asking how to best answer the question,
"What's your weekness?" during the interview. IMHO, the best
way to answer that is to talk about how you'd like to be more
proficient in an area that you are _not_ interviewing for.
For example, if you are interviewing for a backend position,
then talk about how you are not as strong in front end design
but would love to get more exposure to it. Or for non-managedment
engineering positions in general, it is also okay to say you are
not comfortable enough speak in front of hundredes or thousdands
of people but you would like to take some public speech classes
if the company can sponsor it (it is important to quatify the
number of audience; you want to point out you are totally comfortable
doing a technical presentation/review for your peers).
This answer usually leads to discussion about company's education
benefits, which is what you want to find out anyway.
\_ The best answer is "I don't have any weaknesses"
\_ I'd rather someone blew off the question than respond this way
\_ No, that's the worst answer.a
\_ I dunno -- the last thread about this had some pretty messed
answers....
\_ It's not the worst answer if it is true. If you're good at
your job and you have good people skills to boot plus tons
of experience in the relevant positions then why would you
have any weaknesses? I mean, seriously, what the hell are you
supposed to say? I don't have a good backhand in tennis?
I don't play golf? I mean, seriously, wtf ARE you supposed to
say if you have 10+ years of experience in the field, worked
on various projects as follower or leader, have had a pretty
good track record on those projects, given lectures on the
field, published papers, etc. etc.. If you are the best
candidate for the job, why SHOULD you have any weaknesses?
\_ If you think you're perfect, that's a weekness.
\_ Perhaps if you think you are NOT perfect for the job,
now that's a weakness. If you don't think you're perfect
for the job, then why are you applying? Also, who said
anything about thinking that you yourself are perfect?
Not having a weakness != perfection.
\_ Okay, I'll emend that. If you don't think you have
weaknesses, you're lying to yourself and others.
\_ So in other words, you don't believe that people
can be good at what they do. That's an interesting
attitude.
\_ No. I believe that people who are never
introspective are dangerous. I believe that
people who don't find they have things to
better in themselves are stunted and boring.
\_ Being introspective is one thing, being
weak at something is another. Don't mix
the two. You're confusing self assessment
with being weak. Self assessment leads to
improvement, even in things you are strong
at. It's akin to saying that Tiger Woods
has a "weak" short game. His weak short
game still blows 99% of the population
out of the water. He can improve on it,
(heck, he can improve on all aspects of
his game), but I wouldn't call it a
weakness, especially if you're applying
for a job. Seriously, this is one of those
dumb corporate interview questions that
should be banned. It's a dumb question and
leads to no real answers.
\_ Sounds like you're reading too much into
the question. This is exactly what they're
asking about. Things you'd like to be
better at. Maybe it's bad terminology,
but you're being really obtuse.
\_ If you asked Tiger Woods his biggest
weakness and he said "My short game"
it would make plenty of sense. How his
short game compares to mine is not the
question.
\_ my biggest weakness is not being able to find more time to <stick
in something irrelevant to work>. For example, I'm unable to find
more time to read fine American literatures, take French/cooking,
class, and do things that'll make me a better rounded person.
Heck they don't give a shit how well-rounded you are, so why not.
\_ The purpose of this question is to bait you into revealing a real
show stopper flaw, or see if you dodge the question or throw up a smoke
screen answer. As long as you answer it honestly and don't throw out
a juicy flaw like stealing other people's lunchs from the company
refrigerator, you are probably fine. -ax
\_isn't hacking code and eating Doritos making you more well-rounded

1/6 WTF, you can't defend a child hit with a water bottle at a football
game now? The sailor guy is lucky the kid's friends didn't have
guns!
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2005/01/06/state1916EST0140.DTL
\_ I think you're confusing "defense" with "revenge"
\_ You must be some kind of liberal. You'd sit by and do nothing
while some clown is throwing things at a kid you're with??
\_ The guy throws an empty water bottle. You and two of your
friends beat him unconscious. Does that seem like a valid
response to you. And yes, I am a liberal. The guy was an
ass for not apologizing if he hit the kid on purpose. But,
funny thing, I have some modicum of self control, and I
would hope others do too.
\_ You must be some kind of idiot. Almost killing a guy because
he threw an empty bottle at a kid is never justified.
Not only are these three morons going to get a year in the
pen, they're going to be slapped with a huge assault and
battery tort lawsuit by the sailor. I mean, are you going
to go and slash someone's throat because he took your
parking space? If you think this behavior is justified,
I think you need to go seek professional help.
\_ The article said the sailor refused to apologize. If that's
the whole story, I think he's a dick and deserve to get
beaten up. However, this being civilized society, I think
the three men went a bit too far. I think the fair thing
would be to charge the sailor for "assault" as well for
hitting the kid with the bottle.
\_ And that they didn't should give a clue that it probably
an accident. |

12/9 I've heard a lot of talk about stuff like "Cal got jobbed" and
stuff about football. What happened?
\_ Cal football has had a great season, 10 wins, 1 loss, and that
loss to top-ranked USC in LA by 6 points. Cal is ranked 4th in
the country currently by both the sportswriters and the coaches.
Traditionally, the Pac-10 champion (Cal is in the Pac-10, a
conference of 10 west coast schools) goes to the Rose Bowl to play
a final game on Jan 1. The Rose Bowl is part of a 4-bowl coalition
called the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). This year the top two
teams from college football will play in the BCS championship game
in Miami in the Orange Bowl. Thus Cal could go to the Rose Bowl, a
goal of long desire for Cal fans (who haven't been since 1959).
The Rose Bowl also wanted Cal to preserve its traditional matchup.
However, Cal was not selected by the BCS because in the final BCS
rankings (involving computer, coaches, and sportswriters polls),
Texas barely passed Cal, and Texas got an automatic BCS bid because
of their final 4th-place finish. Thus Cal was left out of the BCS.
Many feel that the extra votes that Texas got in the last week
that made the difference were the result of Texas allies among the
sportswriters and coaches, and also the Texas coach's campaign for
votes vs. Cal's non-campaigning and non-running-up-the-score. |

be content and not overthrow the emperor. Now that I'm grown up and

and basketball today but people are still pretty pissed about Bush
and his policies. What do you guys think?
\_ You are lacking one vital component in your reasoning, the
shows at the Coliseum were free. Football and basketball are
not free, and even TV broadcasts are increasingly not free
(i.e. advent of PPV). Also, the shows at the coliseum were
state sponsored, the NBA and NFL are privately sponsored.

\_ Beyond Good & Evil sucks. It got great reviews by most critics,
but the public didn't buy it at all. I did, unfortunately. I
played the first hour of the game and immediately put it on eBay,
to me it's THAT BAD. What's to not like:
- Ugly character: short hair, looks like a boy, no body, green
lipstick, looks like an 80's punk girl. In a game you're the
character, the person has to be likable, Jade is not.
- Boring character: no charisma, nothing, she's boring
- Stupid side-kick: a pig as a sidekick? Maybe when I was 10
years old, not in an adult game. Imagine if Solid Snake was
walking around with a talking pig, insults adult intelligence.
- Hammy: too tounge and cheek, very hammy dialogue, the voice
acting seems partly joking partly serious, too in-your-face.
- Boring gameplay: take pictures, fight, take pictures, fight...
+ Great graphics
+ Great production value

applying oral suction? Would one buttock be enough? What if the

10/29 How are spreads created? I'm bored at work and want to create a
free market (with spreads if possible) for betting on random
events at work, like "How much longer before Sue and Jack break up?"
and "4 to 1 odds that the Christmas party will be cancelled?"
Ya, it's entirely stupid, and the idea is not original (the movie
40 days and 40 nights had the same sort of thing),
but like I said, I'm bored.
\_ Unless you're intimately knowledgeble about people's betting
habits and personal lives, forget it. Instead, run a pool. Payoffs
depend on how much people put into it. There is no chance of you
losing money (unless you bet) and you can be a lot less accurate
about the outcome, since it doesn't really matter who wins.
\_ You're looking for odds, not spreads:
http://csua.org/u/4u6
That said, you're talking about setting quantifiable odds for
qualitative results, and that's a mug's game. If you're really
bored, establish a trash-can free-throw game, watch the other
players practice, and set your odds based on their hit-miss ratio.
\_ Ever look at http://tradesports.com ? The way they do it is make a
'contract' that pays $1 if an event happens or $0 if it doesn't.
A player Andy can sell a contract to Bob for, say $0.30. If the
event doesn't happen, Andy keeps his $0.30. If it happens, Andy has
to pay Bob $1 (but keeps the $0.30 he got for selling the contract)
Anyone can buy and sell contracts as they please and the prices move
The spread occurs whenever there are no buyers at the price the
sellers are willing to accept.
\_ odds are different, but casinos and sports books adjust lines
so that they'll get pretty close to an even amount bet on both
sides.
\_ How exactly does that work? If I set the spread for the Lakers
game at 7.5 points and everyone is betting on the Lakers, can I
change the spread to 11.5 and void the previous bets?
\_ No, the previous bets still stand, but now you get more bets
against the Lakers
\_ as above. Once you increase the spread(assuming Lakers are
favored), you'd get fewer bets on the Lakers and more against.
Thus, they adjust until they get even amounts of bets on both
sides, and the net payout approx. = net gain, regardless of
outcome. That's why you see lines adjusting as events get
closer.
Thus, Vegas lines are not a probability of winning, they're
a snapshot of what the betting community thinks the prob.
of winning are.
\_ Perhaps less obviously, all probabilities are a snapshot
of someone's belief of what the probability of something
is. -- card-carrying bayesian
\_ There was an article recently in the SmartMoney magazine about a
professional sports better. Besides doing lots of research, he
would have several people working for him placing bets all at the
same time such that the spread doesn't move against him.

\_ Sure, why not? Looks about par as far as game engines go. The Doom3

in-game engine driven too. If it were CGI, I'd expect a lot more.

2/3 GO BEARS: Jeff Tedford is making good on his promise to get top
state prospects. http://Rivals.com says Cal has gotten commitments from
15 of the top 100 California prospects; only USC, with 20, ranks
higher. Tedford has concentrated on defensive players and emphasized
speed.
\_ Thank fucking god. It will be nice to have a respectable Cal
football team. I don't want to see us lose the Axe for another 7

\_ Why do you care? I got my piece of paper, it served me well
getting a first job out of school, end of story.
\_ if Tedford does well, he may go to the pros as an assistant or
something.
\_ Yes, let's strive for mediocrity so Tedford can stay here
forever.
\_ that's not what the poster was implying.
\_ What's so big about Tedford? Bottom line is that
it'd be great for Cal to have a winning
football program. I could care less who the
coach is.
\_ Um, hello!? A good coach makes a huge
difference in college football. I guess
you weren't around for the Tom Homloe
years? Or maybe you've choosen to
forget, God knows I tried to.
\_ Read what I wrote. I care more about
having a winning football program than
having a specific coach. Tedford can
stay or go as long as Cal continues
to win.
\_ You should care b/c the two are
directly related to each other.
\_ Uh, no. There do exist other
coaches who can also win. Losing
Tedford to the pros is not a
guaranteed end all to Cal football.
\_ Soon it will be like basketball, where you can't get tickets

\_ Ah, but basketball doesn't have Tightwad Hill.
\_ I always heard it called "cheapskate hill". The only place
I've seen a bong as big as I am.
\_ I think the dopers call it cheapskate hill while the jocks
call it tightwad hill. Dunno why the difference.
\_ It's Tightwad hill. Dopers have problems using synonyms
reflecting their lifestyle while jocks are fascinated
by the word "tight". "Tightwad" puts them over the edge. |

11/20 If you want to know about "The Play", go to http://espn.com. It's the front page article atm. \_ Cal is gonna lose. In the history of my paying attention to Cal football they never won so why now? They'll choke. \_ So *you're* the one. Stop watching so's we can win, would you? \_ The articles said there was only four seconds left, yet the run before the touchdown in the video clip seemed to last a lot longer. Why? \_ The last play of the game can be as long as it wants, as long as it starts before time runs out. They could be running for an hour and it'd still count. \_ SJ Mercury had a sidebar where they showed the play was illegal to begin with, claimed that there was a forward lateral, and claimed that someone was already down. Must be a stanfurd grad. \_ The call always stands despite video in Pro Basketball also. I remember Clippers vs. Spurs 1989, Charles Smith hit a last second shot 2 feet behind the 3 point line that was called as a 2 pointer. The fact he landed *after* shooting in front of the line was missed by the officials. They lost by a point. If video could undo a game after the fact, people would not go. \_ Actually basketball is doing some instant replay officiating now. But certainly college football wasn't, then or now. In any case, there are no forward laterals--it is easy to ascertain this from the video replay. It is not so easy to ascertain whether Garner's knee touched down before he pitched it to Rodgers, but it appears that his leg is on top of a Stanford player's leg. By today's NFL replay rules, the call made on the field would definitely stand. In addition, Stanford was penalized for illegal participation (for the players and the band on the field), and the penalty at the time for illegal participation was to award the other team a touchdown. -tom \_ Didn't the band come on the field only after (they thought) his knee went down? In which case the illegal participation call still hinges on that result. [ reformatted - motdformatd ] \_ No, the band can't go on because they think his knee is down, even if he is down. \_ The whistle hadn't blown, so The Play wasn't over. -tom \_ one of SJ Mercury's arguments was that the formation was illegal. There were only four Cal Players within ten feet of the ball before the kickoff. The forward lateral reminds me of the Music City Miracle play in the NFL. \_ It would be min of 10 yards, and there are no illegal formations for the defense. Only applies to offense. \_ I'm still trying to figure out why any of you care about things like Cal football. Any of the players would piss on you and rape your girlfriend for fun and then laugh about it after at practice. \_ When I used to hang out at my gf's place at Clark Kerr all the time, I would see some of the same football players every day and it got to the point where after a while they'd even acknowledge me on campus. Clearly this means that they're not all bad, right? \_ No, how do you figure that? Because they didn't beat you up or gang rape your gf in the stairwell? \_ girlfriend. what is that? \_ for most of us, yermom. \_ I feel thoroughly rebuked. I apologize. Let me go back into my cubicle and discuss the latest Enterprise episode with all my Magic buddies. \_ Clearly ducking the issue. Nice try but no points for that. GO BEAR! WOOT! Ya know, the phrase "football player rapist" didn't appear out of thin air. Or maybe you've spent too much time in your cubicle? \_ don't we go over this every year? and i thought it was the basketball players. - danh \_ You are right. All football players are thugs and rapists. There's not a good man among them. Thanks motd! --dim \_ Yawn. Take the grade school level debate tactics some place that cares. The rest of us outgrew this sort of childish "take their point to the ridiculous extreme" nonesense by junior high. If you''ve got nothing to say then don't bother. \_ You obviously haven't listened to the Rush Limbaugh show or Ann Coulter lately. \_ Which still has nothing to do with anything. Why can't you make the simple effort of sticking to the topic? Don't bother posting if you're on drugs and going off into la-la no-brains land. \_ I'm a fan of rape. \_ Come over here and sit on uncle aspo's lap \_ Or maybe you haven't watched enough football. \_ This has something to do with the price of tea in China? \_ Did that Stanfurd quarterback Elway ever mention why he called the timeout when there was eight seconds remaining? \_ Yep, he admits it was a stupid thing for him to do. He got caught up in the moment. \_ How does the timing work? What would have happend if Elway didn't call timeout at eight seconds left? I don't know much about football. \_ Basically, he would've called it with 2-4 seconds left. Then the field goal would've been the last play of the game. Instead, the field goal took 4 seconds, so they still had to kick the football back to Cal. |

\_ I have read a couple of studies where economists have
figured out that at a large university, pouring
money into a sports program ends up merely contributing

more alumni donations, so if the goal of your

\_ 1) Cal makes more money via donations from Eng. alum

2) Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals bring prestige to
universities. A million superbowl rings can't even
begin to compare to a Nobel Prize or a Fields Medal.

11/27 Can somebody id this puzzle game? It's like a typical jigsaw puzzle
except that all the pieces are squares and made of plastic. You
put the plastic pieces into a tablet. If the puzzle has 16 pieces
total then one blank piece is removed. You have to complete the
picture by moving the squares up, down, left, and right. Since only
one piece is removed, you can only move one piece at a time. It's for

10/23 In Football, if someone runs a hook and ladder, how do they
allocate statistics for yards caught?
\_Yards caught is based on the movement of the ball upfield and
downfield on a pass.
How the ball got there (in the sense of what route it took)
doesn't matter. In a hook and ladder situation you've got a lateral,
technically it was not a pass, but a lateral.
and then a run, so the stats should reflect rushing yards, not
passing yards. The yards are credited to the person running in the
play.
\_ what the heck is a football question doing here? i think you'd
find more geeks here who do embroidery than watch football. oh,
btw, i believe only the final receiver gets credit for yards
caught. the first pass is not counted in yards caught since
technicallY it was not a pass, but a lateral.
\_ The option play this weekend (hand off to WR, he laterals to
RB) was scored as a run by the WR, which is odd, but I think
that might be the way the hook and ladder is scored. -tom

7/16 anybody out there working in the game industry (for console systems
and PC's) who has any words on what the job is actually like,
in terms of both coding and graphic design/art positions?
i already know that the pay is less than other jobs,
but how enjoyable is the job...?
\_ really depends on the company and you
\_ i've still to find a job that i like so much i want to sit
around for more than 8 hours. i've heard that the hours
are long, which is fine, but i've also heard that the
the deadlines are extremely tight, so one guy i talked to
mentioned it wasn't as fun as he thought it was going to be.
\_ It depends on what your job is. If you're hired as a peon,
and you work for some big, icky company, then your job is going
to suck. Do not let this happen to you. If you work
as, say, lead engine programmer (or some level higher up
than code monkey) for a company that treats its employees
well, it can be great. As a general rule the smaller
companies are better, but too small == a lot of risk that
you may never even finish a first game before the company
goes down. The main way to get a good job in the game
industry is to have some kind of game-specific experience
before you go in. It can be something dumb, like a
Half-Life mod or whatever. But have something. -blojo

\_ You're funny! -mogul
\_ No. It's already dead. Xbox is going to destroy
ps2 across the U.S. Release it fast and sucker in
as many v1.0 victims as you can. You'll need a new
job by Xmas of 2001.
\_ The Best scenario for the X-Box as a gaming
console is for microsoft NOT to lose their shirt,
on selling a unit which cost $50-100 more then
it should to manufacture. -nweaver
\_ uhh nick, we all know you area dumbass but I
just want to point out that the money is not in
the consoles. The money is in the games.
\_ in clear laymen's terms, why is it harder to develop
games for the ps2 than let's say...the dreamcast. the
"difficulty" for making games for this unit is supposedly
higher than the saturn, which was already THE worst
nightmare platform.
\_ It's not harder, just requires people to learn more and
think differently. Take the job and find out. -mogul
\_ Translation: you didn't release a SDK. Thanks.
\_ You could look at it that way. -mogul
\_ Always have to have the last word, eh?
\_ Supposedly it is tougher than the Saturn. Mainly because
Sony didn't bother to develop any guildlines for the best
way to impiment a given effect. So apparently programmers
will get halfway through doing something in way X, when
they figure out they should've been doing way Y and have
start completely over. (Note: I can't imagaine the PSX2
is worse than the Atari Jaguar though, talk about
nightmare systems...)
\_ Sony put out a library for PS that developers hated. They
said they'd rather have the raw metal and specs and write
their own libs; eventually Sony gave out the specs and the
games got a lot better as a result. For the PS2, Sony
skipped the libraries and gave developers what they said
they wanted. Unfortunately, they didn't count on the
number of super-lame PC programmers fleeing their
shrinking share of the games market; these are people
raised with DirectX, with no idea how to program a
graphics pipeline on their own. These are the same people
who are complaining the loudest whenever they're
interviewed. I was a PC game developer, and I made the
switch. It's NOT that hard. -mogul
\_ Hey, good way to do developer relations!! I can't
wait to join up with an attitude like that.
--super-lame PC programmer staying in shrinking
market
\_ I didn't say all PC game programmers are
super-lame... Just that there are a lot of them.
\_ Why not release a library to placate the super-lame
programmers, and also release the specs? Seems like
the right way to go, even if you accept the thesis
that only people that can program the bare metal are
going to turn out worthwhile games. -brg (not a game
programmer, or even a game programmer wannabee)
\_ That was my logic, and apparently it just
occurred to someone in Japan where
(unfortunately) all such decisions are made. A
lib will be released shortly. -mogul
\_ So this is a heavily top-down org-chart sort
of place good for drones but bad for anyone
who might stand out? Get a new watch after
20 years of making the company millions each
year?

employees extremely well. -mogul

10/9 Time to fire Goobertson; what lousy play calling in the 4th
quarter! you simply can't expect to run the time out when
your opponent can easily score 2 TDs in 4 minutes.
It was not meant to be. back to old Cal football. forget
the Rose Bowl. watch arizona vs. OSU/PSU
\_ 1) Get a clue. If Bryan hits the FG, we win and Gilbie looks
great. If we recover the onsides kick, we win and Gilbie
looks great. If we throw into the end zone instead, we
don't take any time off the clock and if we don't score,
idiots like you would be second-guessing that.
2) Our chances at the Rose Bowl are almost exactly what they
were before: we need to win the rest of our Pac-10 games,
that's all. We *are* the best team in the Pac 10. We *can*
win the rest. But if the fans are going to fucking quit
just because the other team got LUCKY and beat us, we might
as well give up now. I hear they're accepting applications
for losers at Stanford. GO BEARS! -tom
\_ We're decent, but Arizona looks pretty good, too
\_ It should be a good game. We will win.
\_ Tom's assessment is pretty good. A win yesterday would
have been very nice, but we haven't lost all our chances
to the Rose Bowl --- we would have to beat Arizona
anyways to get there. We should not, under any
circumstances, throw the towel in an already great
season. - hob
\jeesh, what a bunch of whiners. The Bears suck, they
have always sucked and they always will suck. I can
remember when we were happy to beat the spread...
Go Bears! -ausman
\_ Hey, we did beat the spread vs Washington..
\_ Look guys....our kicker sucks.....oh and
Butthead here agrees with. |
