6/25 Justice Kennedy is a waste of skin. His opinion today that child rape
can never be punished by the death penalty is just more proof of that.
The particular details of the case are heinous.
http://preview.tinyurl.com/5v23a9
\_ Nice troll you got there, come here often?
\_ While I understand the desire to take the perp out back and shoot
him (believe me, I'd load the gun), preferably after the son of a
bitch is repeatedly raped by a rabid hyena, the death penalty is
the ultimate punishment available to the state. In designing a
system that recognizes that quality, we have to set standards
appropriate to the severity of the punishment; life for life is
one of the clearest criteria we can set for this. To make exceptions
even in heinous, horrible, horrific cases like this is to invite
instability. If we apply death penalty in this case, why not in
the case of adult rape? Where do we then re-draw the line?
Kennedy's opinions in this case reveal a streak of strict
constitutionalism such as we would expect to see from so-called
strict constitutionalists like Scalia.
\_ Originalist

Besides, I thought you lefties hated "slippery slope" arguments.

\_ At 9:18 a.m. on March 2, 1998, petitioner called 911 to report
that his stepdaughter, referred to here as L. H., had been raped.
He told the 911 operator that L. H. had been in the garage
while he readied his son for school. Upon hearing loud screaming,
petitioner said, he ran outside and found L. H. in the side yard.
Two neighborhood boys, petitioner told the operator, had dragged
L. H. from the garage to the yard, pushed her down, and raped
her. Petitioner claimed he saw one of the boys riding away on a
blue 10-speed bicycle.
When police arrived at petitioner.s home between 9:20 and 9:30
a.m., they found L. H. on her bed, wearing a T-shirt and wrapped
in a bloody blanket. She was bleeding profusely from the vaginal
area. Petitioner told police he had carried her from the yard to
the bathtub and then to the bed. Consistent with this
explanation, police found a thin line of blood drops in the
garage on the way to the house and then up the stairs. Once in
the bedroom, petitioner had used a basin of water and a cloth to
wipe blood from the victim. This later prevented medical
personnel from collecting a reliable DNA sample.
L. H. was transported to the Children.s Hospital. An expert in
pediatric forensic medicine testified that L. H..s injuries were
the most severe he had seen from a sexual assault in his four
years of practice. A laceration to the left wall of the vagina
had separated her cervix from the back of her vagina, causing her
rectum to protrude into the vaginal structure. Her entire
perineum was torn from the posterior fourchette to the anus. The
injuries required emergency surgery.
\_ See the part where I agree with you that the guy oughta be
shot, right after being raped by rabid hyenas. Still not a
basis for a legal system.
\_ See, the revenge raping isn't. Execution is.
\_ How do you codify it? Where do you draw the line?

draw the line where legislators draw the line.

talks about cruel and unusual punishment.

things. You might even have herpes, which has enormous
variability in symptoms. Mostly, you need to get yourself
to the clinic and stop ranting on the motd. You'll be
fine. Get a hold of yourself.
\_ Woah thats gnarly.
\_ What, molluscum? Nah. Clinics don't even bother
to treat it, since it has no ill health effects,
causes no pain or irritation, and tends to
go away on its own without recurrence. There's
also no evidence that condoms do much to help
prevent its spread, since it can be transmitted just
by skin contact. If he has it and he's really freaked
out about it, he can get a doctor to freeze the bump(s)
off.
\_ I used to have this on my lower body (from stomach down)
for more than ten years. It came and went by itself.
Neither betadine nor permangenate helped. Then it

why.
\_ Yeah, it's an odd one. Children get it on their faces
a lot as well. Essentially the virus is in the papule,
and contact spreads it. The reason it came and went
is that molluscum has a high tendency to "self-infect"
- i.e., you rub the bump on your lower stomach, then
rub some other part of your stomach and pretty soon
you've got two bumps. And like you said, it just seems
to go away by itself. This isn't the same mechanism
as herpes recurrence, however.
\_ My symptoms do not look like

\_ Hi, the places I shave don't get zits. However, I'm
a highly evolved East Asian and the percentage of my face
that needs to be shaved is very small anyways, hence
the probability of zits on my mustache is very small.
In fact the percentage of my face that needs to be
shaved is close to 1/3-1/4 of typical white men who
still seem to have many primitive ape features. So I
don't know what you're getting at but I don't think
shaving and exfoliating actually does anything
significant.
\_ why is the size of the area significant? you still
have the "ape features" in question. just because

his racial superiority but I just want to point out that
in my country it is common to see teachers joking that the
white men have yet fully evolved. They say things like when
white men don't shave, they look very much like apes. And
among other things, they say things like they're very horny,
use looks and charm to deceive, act like barbarians, are
stubborn, self righteous, resort to force when things don't
go their way, etc. While much progress has been made on both
sides in the past few decades in debunking this silly
stereotype, your great President has once again revived the white
ape stereotype. He seems to have all of the attributes
I mentioned above.
\_ Bill Clinton definitely fits in the "very horny" category
\_ Aren't "horny" and "use looks and charm to deceive" true for men
in all races?
\_ No, because white people are particularly good looking.
(Not my argument, I just hear this a lot in Korea)
\_ Well, in most Asian countries, they either love whities,
or they really really really hate them. Obviously, you
married the former.
\_ Which country did you come from? I was born and raised in Hong
Kong until 19, and I've never heard any of my teachers saying
such things. Although I've heard other people saying these in
casual occasion.
\_ Wait, if white men look like apes, and use looks to decieve,
does that mean asians are attracted to apes!?!???

8/30 Why would taking antibiotics help with acne? I mean, acne is
just oil gland popping out right? -acne guy
\_ It's a sebaceus gland that gets clogged. I think bacteria help to
clog them.
\_ Acne is a really bad reason to over-medicate with antibiotics.
In general, antibiotics should be avoided unless absolutely
neccessary, as their overuse decreases their effectiveness
over time.
\_ Agreed. I think anti-bacterial soap should be banned from
general use.
\_ yeah, ban Clorine as well because it's anti-bacterial
\_ it's much more than anti-bacterial, it's anti-microbial.
\_ What's the difference?
\_ Heh. Just in case you're not being deliberately obtuse,
anti-bacterial soap has nothing to do with antibiotics.
Are you familiar with the concepts of natural selection
and the process by which bacteria become resistant to
antibiotics?
\_ Hmm, last I checked, anti-bacterial soap contains legal
amounts of antibiotics.
\_ I thought most antibacterial soaps used triclosan
as their active ingredient.
\_ Ah, sorry! I was wrong! But overuse of
antibacterial agents like triclosan also causes
"superbugs", just like overuse of antibiotics.
http://csua.org/u/8ui
\_ "some scientists believe."
\_ What are you, the new york post? If you keep
exposing bacteria to nasty stuff they'll
eventually work out a way to live with it.
Or is it that you believe God wouldn't allow
such a thing to happen?
\_ obviously, you're wrong. bacteria can't
live in boiling water or alcohol or
bleach, despite thousands of years of
using this "nasty stuff" to kill
bacteria.
\_ Bleach has been around for thousands
of years?
\_ There is a huge qualitative difference
between, say, bleach, and an
antibiotic. Antibiotic-resistant
strains of bacteria are rampant
due to overuse of antibiotics. Just
wait and see how much fun we'll have
when an antibiotic resistant
chlamydia organism gets out into the
wild.
\_ triclosan is not an antibiotic.
\_ True, but it is also not bleach.
Triclosan is weak enough that it
is safe enough for humans. You
really don't want to be dousing
your hands in bleach every time
you use the bathroom do you?
Okay, I've met some OCD victims
that might try it, but really.
See the post just below for more
information.
\_ crab fisherman use clorox
to clean their wounds.
that's because most
crab fisherman are insane.
\_ Anything that kills 100% of bacteria
will never cause resistance in them.
If you repeated expose them to
lowed amounts that only kill some
(very hot water, diluted bleach or
alcohol) you will eventually build up
a resistance which will make it harder
to kill as many with how water or
dilute bleach or whatever, so you will
have to increase the concentration or
temperature or duration of exposure._ |

7/11 I've varied my workout and I seem to be getting some results now.
I've noticed that my muscles are getting bigger. However, my total
weight remains the same. Anybody had that happen? Muscle weighs
more than fat, I could be losing fat but I doubt that's happening.
what else could account for the fact that I'm getting stronger and
bulkier while total body weight remains the same? Thanks.
\_ It's not unusual for people to gain muscle and yet *lose*
weight. Why do you doubt you are losing fat? --dim
\_ because I'm already at 8% body fat. This is measured using
one of those body fat machine. I'm as lean as I can be. :)
\_ Those body fat machines overestimate if you are relatively
skinny. Calipers plus coach are better.
\_ well ok. I just thought there was a generic explanation
for something like this. As long as I'm getting stronger
and bulkier I have no complains.
\_ you don't want to go much below 8% body fat for males.
Not healthy.
\_ is there a scientific basis for this? I'm vegetarian.
Since I stopped eating meat my workout has gotten a lot
more effective. I don't have to waste energy sweating
off the fat and cholesterol.
\_ body fat refers to fat in your body not in food.
\_ well, for one thing, your brain and nerves are
sheathed in fat, and your brain is mostly fat.
For more info, do yer own googling. But come on
it's common sense. Extremes in any direction
are generally bad.
\_ Here is a URL which describes < 8% body fat
as being unhealthy.
http://www.shapeup.org/dated/082800.htm
\_ I have a friend with 7% body fat and his doctor
told him it is too low and bad for his skin.
\_ Did you weight yourself one time before you go to bathroom but
another time after?
\_ this is *much* easier than installing a scale in your shitter
if you want to know how heavy your turds are.
\_ When you take steroids, you gain weight in the muscles, but lose
weight when your sexual organs shrink. When you become a meathead
your muscles also take up more blood flow, decreasing the blood
your brains gets. Your brain grows smaller, hence weight
(and intelligence) loss. |

5/13 Eyeliner wearing types out there, do you have a strong brand
preference? Is department store eyeliner significantly better than
drug store eyeliner? Thanks in advance.
- Hasn't worn eyeliner since High School
\_ different brands may smear easier than others. i'd suggest
starting with the cheap stuff and then if you have a problem with
it staying put, move up to the better quality ones. (what will
work for you kinda depends on your skin type and eye geometry.
just experiment.) -tom
\_ Damn, what an obvious troll. tom stopped using eyeliner
ever since the surgery,
It runs too easily during any meg ryan film.
\_ Seem to be having success with the L'Oreal long wear liquid,
but I'm not too crazy about the applicator-- hard to get a

- Original poster
\_ Why do you think it is funny to sign someone elses name to
a post? Tom hasn't logged in all day.
\_ How common is it for males to wear eyeliners?
\_ Among heavy metal fans and sysadmins it's fairly common.
\_ You are making the generalization
that most sysadmins are linux
lusers and cosplayers. That is
not entirely true.
\_ WTF? First, are you saying heavy metal fans are fags?
And no, it's not common among sysadmins. You are crazy.
\_ No, are you saying wearing eye liner makes you a fag?
\_ Have you ever been to a KISS concert?
\_ If it's so fucking common among sysadmins, why the hell
can't I get any recommendations out of the motd? |

11/14 What's the difference between a nurse practitioner (NP) and a
doctor (MD)? I'm covered by Kaiser, and when I call to make an
appointment with a doctor, they gave me a nurse practitioner instead.
\_ it sounds like your insureance plan is NP complete.
\_ An NP is a nurse (BSN) with a two year Master's. An MD is a BA
with a four year professional degree (MD). The MD then gets at
least three years of professional apprenticeship (residency).
An MD can do just about anything. An NP is pretty limited in
what s/he can do, usually to prescribing the 100 most common
drugs and simple procedures. If you just have a chest cold or
need the pill, see an NP. If you have something serious, see
an MD, if you can.
\_ I see. Is that how Kaiser keeps it costs down, by providing NP's
instead of MD's for non-serious problems? Last time I had
sustained coughing I ended up seeing an NP. This time I want to
make an appt for physical and they also give me an NP.
\_ Yeah, this is how they keep costs down. Of course, school
isn't everything, so the quality of care you recieve
depends on the individuals competence and experience
more than on what letters they put after their name.
\_ I've found that most NPs are just as competent as doctors
at diagnosing common ailments and have been "nicer"
than most doctors at explaining medical situations.
That said, I'm going to make an unsolicited comment about
Kaiser. Kaiser is both an HMO as well as an insurance
provider, which is quite a big conflict of interest.
Doctors there are restricted in the tests they can
administer and the procedures they recommend -- these
restrictions are based on cost (Kaiser wants to keep
costs down as a provider). These are the same doctors
that elsewhere, would be allowed to give you more expensive
procedures for the sake of your health. I have a relative
who's been a doctor at Kaiser -- he quit because he wasn't
allowed to keep the health of his patients the first
priority. Switch off Kaiser, go PPO.
\_ Say someone catches anthrax and goes to Kaiser thinking that it's
a flu. Can an NP diagnose that as accruately as an MD can?
\_ Biggest difference: NP can be a hot babe, while MD usually
isn't. --dim
\_ my brother's MD girlfriend is pretty hot. in fact, there were
a few other babes in his med school class.
\_ pics?
\_ I know a hot MD babe too. Too bad my friend's site (where her pic
is) is down.
\_ Key word: usually. --dim
\_ i wonder if it doesn't break down based on specialty.
from an informal suvey at a med school graduation, it
seems that (pediatricians & psychiatrists) > internal
medicine > surgery. your average sodan probably doesn't
see many pediatricians or shrinks. well, not many
pediatricians anyway.
\_ My dermatologist was attractive. In some of the
specialties it's hard to find a female doctor
period. --dim
\_ I still have wet dreams about my proctologist.
\_ Can you just post the URL here please so that we can check it
out when it's up later?
\_ There are quite a few ladies on his site. I don't know
the URL to the one who is an MD, or more specifically,
an intern at Stanford's medical center, or whatever that
is called.
\_ Just the URL to that site, please.
\_ Stop drooling. Go download some net porn.
\_ But porn sites only show porn stars. Hot
doctors (real ones) are more exotic.
\_ In that case, I'm looking forward to my physical.
