pornographic content and images from PETA's more risque ads, Rajt said. Those images will be interspersed with pictures and videos showing animals being mistreated--and (we're not making this up) links to vegan and vegetarian "starter kits" and recipes. "When people first visit the site, it will be very enticing and once they go just a little bit deeper, that's when they'll be confronted with images that we hope will make them stop and think and get them talking and hopefully encourage them to make a lifestyle change to a plant-based diet," Rajt said.
pornography and violent video about abused animals would be looking for a way to convert to vegetarianism. Other animal rights activists are skeptical about the idea. "It's like promoting robberies as an alternative to assaults," said Brian M Messenheimer, an Army veteran who does animal rescue work in the Boston area.
successful careers in porn, and PETA insists that the women they'll feature on their port site are willing participants as well, so exploitation doesn't enter into the equation.
sexually violent relationships, being a "willing participant" doesn't mean they aren't also victims of abuse. "Does it lessen the fact that dogs trained to fight are willing participants?" Pornography and feminism aside, PETA has also been criticized for its treatment of the animals it claims to have rescued. According to their own data, filed with the Department of Agriculture in Virginia, in 2010 PETA took in 2,345 homeless dogs and cats--and euthanized 2,301 of them.
ladybella04 Tue Sep 20, 2011 4:10pm PDT If it's effective that's one thing. But I doubt that most guys are going to go to the site and then decide to try and help some animals or eat less meat. They'll probably just look at the porn, maybe while eating a burger at the same time. You would expect them to be able to save a lot more kitties and puppies than that.
Melissa Tue Sep 20, 2011 4:26pm PDT The percentage of rescued animals to be euthanized depends greatly upon the condition they were in when they were found. Many times it is more human to medically end a pet's suffering. I don't think there is enough information given to make a definite judgment call on this. On the main topic, PETA porn just sounds like justification for perversion.
Sensi Tue Sep 20, 2011 5:06pm PDT The truth is that PETA's shock-tactics don't work. The incedents of animal abuse and cruelty aren't going down. The people who are schoked and horrified by PETA's shock-messages/videos, ect. The people who don't care simply don't care and if someone is in the habit of starving their pets or say, smashing their heads in, no amount of watching PETA's horrific videos is going to MAKE them care. I do, however, think that PETA may make some difference in the animal food industry but someone who clicks on a link expecting porn is going to be nothing but pissed off when they find out they've been tricked. Organizations like PETA could be great and do great things and I"m sure some of them do but just like religious fanatics they sometimes just go too far and no one wants to listen to a fanatic. I am an animal lover and many times go out of my way to help an animal in need.
Evee Tue Sep 20, 2011 5:50pm PDT PETA has euthanized that many animals because they don't really care about getting homeless animals "re-homed". Many animal rights people beleive that animals are better off dead than in shelters. So when they put them in their own shelter, instead of using all that money to get those animals adopted into good homes, they just kill them. PETA started out as an organization that cared about animals, and they've done some good things as far as our food industry is concerned. But they don't give ONE CENT to wildlife conservation, they kill 80% of the shelter animals they "rescue", and now they think it's a great idea to use porn to promote their messege. PETA is an abhorant organization that is more concerned with publicity than actually helping animals in any real way.
