news.yahoo.com/s/afp/chinamediamilitaryfilmoffbeat China Central Television, or CCTV, aired the footage in a January 23 report on a People's Liberation Army Air Force training exercise, showing a plane firing a missile at another. The second aircraft plane was destroyed in a fiery explosion, and the dramatic footage was shown in between interviews with air force officers. However, some Internet users recognised the explosion from the dogfight in the final scene of the 1986 film "Top Gun" starring Tom Cruise. The Wall Street Journal posted a side-by-side video comparison of the CCTV news report and the "Top Gun" scene on its website, showing the two were identical. A CCTV representative could not comment on the similarities, the Wall Street Journal said. The "Top Gun" footage was aired a week after China, where copyright infringement is widespread, vowed to step up its fight to protect intellectual property rights by targeting online piracy. The original report was removed from the CCTV website after news that part of it had been lifted from the movie spread. The gaffe has delighted many Internet users who often express frustration about having to endure CCTV's propaganda-driven agenda. Report Abuse "Top Gun" is one of the gayest movies ever. I've never gotten why people like this movie, and I still don't, to this day. It is almost like a parody of a serious movie about the topic, even though it is supposed to be "serious." Report Abuse Hpw is this different from what CNN frequently does? CNN will be reporting a story on Marine helicopters and show stock footage of Army aircraft. When Iraq invaded Kuwait back in 1990, CNN showed video of US and Egyptian tanks conducting maneuvers in the Egyptian desert while talking about Iraqi tanks invading Kuwait. My point is that stock footage is frequently used, and those who are familiar with the subject matter recognize it. It is not near as deceptive as when newscasts zoom in on 40 people and imply that there are thousands, or when they zoom in on 40 WHEN THERE ARE 1000's, and act like it is a small number. Report Abuse I just got back from Beijing tonight after spending a week in China. As this was my first trip, I was expecting a third world type country. I saw more Mercedes and BMW's on the roads there than I ever saw in the US. Sure, there were tons of Japanese and Korean cars but also GM's and Ford's. It seems clear to me that they have a viable middle class with disposable income. I can see the real possibility that China could be the #1 economy in a few years. We might all be working for them in the not too distant future. Report Abuse China's CCTV news report are often made by young people like you and me, even younger than us. We will allow young people to make their own mistakes and learn from those experience. Most Chinese people have always been of the view that veryone makes mistakes, even making a mistake, one will be still a good and valuable person if he correct the mistakes. www.csua.org/u/sgo -> news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thecutline/20110131/ts_yblog_thecutline/chinese-air-force-drill-looks-awfully-similar-to-top-gun the China-US-oriented blog Ministry of Tofu pointed out, "the way a target was hit by the air-to-air missile fired by a J-10 fighter aircraft and exploded looks almost identical to a cinema scene from the Hollywood film Top Gun." led to believe that what they were seeing was a live fire exercise. But according to Ministry of Tofu: "A net user who went by the name "" (Liu Yi) pointed out that the jet that the J-10 'hit' is an F-5, a US fighter jet. In Top Gun, what the leading actor Tom Cruise pilots an F-14 to bring down is exactly an F-5. Looking at the screenshots juxtaposition, one cannot fail to find that even flame, smoke and the way the splinters fly look the same." The Wall Street Journal's China Real Time Report put the videos side-by-side. The seemingly doctored footage has been removed from CCTV's website. But Real Time China Report notes that Chinese media has in the past been caught red-handed lifting fictional US material in news reports. published as genuine a satirical news article by The Onion about US Congress threatening to leave Washington DC unless the city built them a new building with a retractable roof," writes Josh Chin. Report Abuse China is sending a message once again that they are tired of not being top dog and they are the new Supior power. Because their pride and unappriciation to the US for raising up their economy indicates a plan of war and great troubles ahead. Their tactic is to see if they can break us, as Reagan did the USSR. Report Abuse it looked crappy fake on the movie and they decided to steal that? With so much footage available of real missle hits from veitnam to the gulf war they decide to steal a fake looking clip? Its pretty clear that the chinese are lazy after all, they can't even fake things right. Anyone here remember when they used to steal the sound tracks of amirican movies and use them in their kung fu movies? Report Abuse That's definitely a US F5 Fighter Jet that we used only for Dissimilar Aerial Combat Maneuvers (mock dog fight)! I don't think we ever sold Communist China any military hardware so it's just propaganda. China is so aggressive and bullies their Asian neighbors. They should focus their energy on human rights because this is something they need to improve. |
