1/18 My car needs smog test but I think it may fail. I heard from someone
that if I fail, I can get a state rebate for repair or something
like that. Where can I find more info on this?
        \_ smogcheck.ca.gov
        \_ http://www.smogtips.com/test_only_eligible.cfm
I don't know anything about CAP but from what I heard you can
get up to $500+$100 repair on emission problems if you fail
your test. Please let us know what happens!
\_ There is (was?) also the other option of retiring your car and get
some cash back after it fails the test. I don't remember the URL
           though.
\_ this is also correct. see smogcheck.ca.gov, same program
there is also a baaqmd program for vehicle buyback

9/4 Why do they even bother saving Mt. Wilson Observatory from the
fire in Los Angeles? I mean, can they even see stars in the
        fog of smog?
\_ You're an idiot. Not only does the Observatory have historical
value, but there is still a lot of research that goes on up
there including the Solar Observatory, the CHARA Array, and

9/11 I once saw a vehicle buyback program that pays maybe $1000 for vehicles
that fail the smog test? Does anyone have a link for this? I found
        http://www.baaqmd.gov/pln/grants_and_incentives/vehicle_buyback but
only that's for vehicles that pass the smog test. Thanks.

\_ Heh, I get a chuckle out of China being os testy about this stuff.
Also, how does 2008 Beijing compare to 1984 LA? LA was pretty nasty
back in the 70's, wasn't it?

2/15 Dear LA hater, let's start an LA bashing thread. What is it about
        LA you hate?
\_ I've had the opportunity to live in the Bay Area for 9 years
and LA 10 years. It's true that traffic jam exist in both places
but there are degrees of traffic jam. In short, below is my
           experience:

2/14 It took me over 2.5 hours to drive from Santa Monica to Arcadia,
a distance of 38miles, or 15MPH. What the hell is wrong with
Los Angeles and why do people actually want to live in LA? God
I can't wait to get out of this shithole the time comes.
        \_ Maybe for the H07 CH1X?
\_ Dude, take the 405N to the 118 and it won't take 2.5 hours.

I really don't understand this. Instead of increasing mileage
why don't Americans just plan ahead for once and build a
sustainable city with mass transit and mixed use buildings,
instead of big McMansions sprawling wherever land is available?

QUALIFY FOR CAP AUTOMATICALLY You qualify for repair assistance if your Registration Renewal Notice stated, "Smog Certificate Required at a Test Only center or Gold Shield Station". If this heading was printing on the top of your DMV vehicle registration renewal form and you did in fact go to a Test Only station and fail the smog inspection, you automatically qualify for repair assistance regardless of income status! However, this amount will be added to the total repair dollars available to you. Please note: You must have already failed a smog inspection before applying to CAP (you will need to send the failed Vehicle Inspection Report form with your CAP application). The repair assistance provided can only be used for emission related repairs. CAP assistance is not available to vehicles in the process of being sold or being registered in California for the first time. Vehicles which have tampered emission control systems will not be accepted into the program. Your vehicle will be considered tampered if it has any missing, modified, or disconnected emissions related components. If you have performed any repair on your vehicle to help it pass its smog inspection your co-payment amount may be waived. Please send receipts for work performed along with your CAP application (repairs must have been made a certified smog repair station). Please download a copy of the CAP application for more details. For more information please contact CAP directly at (866)272-9642.
