The Dual Boot Guide is a comprehensive guide and it should work for most of you with a little bit of hard work. Just pop in the DVD and you are good to go, running Leopard in no time, with all the 300+ features at your fingertips.
Well I wanted to write a better How-To that would answer many questions that people had from my previous How-To. I am writing this guide for a novice user, who doesn't know much about the various commands that went into my previous article. This is a one step process that almost anybody in this world would be able to follow. Here are the basic requirements for you to proceed with the installation of Leopard : * A Blank DVD-R to burn the ISO.
Before I tell you, how to install OSX I would like to tell you why this release by Uphuck and Eskurza is an important milestone in the OSX86 Project. If you are wondering what PC-EFI is all about, then let me tell you something about it : With the EFI patch, the hackintosh can boot off VANILLA UNMODIFIED OS X kernel and use vanilla kexts, which gives a more clean room and great peace of mind for future system updates.
OSX86 Wiki * iATKOS (as this release is called) supports a variety of Hardware configurations, and many popular Graphic Cards, Network Cards are supported. Before that here are few conditions your CPU must satisfy to use this installation method.. Ok now, lets proceed with the installation : Step 1: Installing Leopard * Download the Installation ISO from Mininova. Step 2: That is all my, my Friend * Didn't I say it was a one step installation process. I will be updating this post in the future, when the AMD patch is released.
A big thanks to Uphuck and Eskurza for this amazing release. Please seed for atleast a couple of days, once you have finished downloading. This will help other people to get this amazing release faster.
Can i partition some drive space on windows vista and install the dvd on the new drive space or do i have to format my entire drive (remove vista) then install leopard?
Can i partition some drive space on windows vista and install the dvd on the new drive space or do i have to format my entire drive (remove vista) then install leopard?" However, from previous experiences with other releases, it is possible.
I'm an abseloute newbie and am wondering if this will work on my system (Dell D830 laptop) especially cause we use LanDesk at school for software distribution and I am using the Wave security suite for the fingerprint reader.
Gene Hi, Does anyone successfully installed this on their PC already running Windows XP. Also will it affect programs that were originally working on windows system?
Tristan Amit- I think maybe you should get your general computing skills to a higher bar before trying something that is a little tricky, as this may prove to be. Any time you install a non-native OS you will probably be swimming in troubled waters. Also, the best way to get help is to sit, breathe, and ponder your question before posting so it comes out in a legible manner. Karthik- Thanks for the guide, Im happy with ubuntu atm, but this is something I've been wanting to try for a while. Any chance we can get an article on extended compatibility?
Aj Hey karthik kastury thanks for this man i have bin trying to get leopard to run on my pc for about a week now i hope it works. do u now if its on any private torrent site keep up the good work man.
Indian_dude Hey Karthik, jus wanna say a huge huge well done to you and your team for creating such a wicked hack! am in process of downloading it now, has it been tested on SSE2 processors yet?
Bleh Hi, great job on this and thanks for the torrent as well. One question, do you have any idea whether or not my 8800GT 512mb video card will be supported under Leopard? I have serached but found no confirmation as of yet, just curious whether its worth installing it or not.
Just bought a macbook for my wife and I was wondering about doing the same thing on a spare pc I have. One question, will the patch/hack work if I was to try the OS X dvd that came with the macbook? I'm downloading the torrent now and it has 6 hours to go 175 kb/s.
it goes pretty fast (it reaches 250 kB/s sometimes), and makes even possible to pause/restore the download... Let's hope to have a full Leopard working for Christmas!
Yellow Snow I downloaded the file, installed it on a Sony VGN-N365E laptop with core duo processor. I booted from cd, It showed dos errors for about 30 minutes then, started up OSX install. i had to reformat a partition on my HD for OSX extended journaled, The install completed and Leopard is running great, Wifi works, and its even faster than my Macbook 13 nch with the same processor. However, there is no sound and i MUST boot from the disc to get to the operating system. Afterwards i can eject the disc and use the mac as usual. The only other, small glitch i noticed was the tap to click on the touchpad not available and the battery bar doesnt exist.
Jesus C well i just want to know if i can run this on my laptop that have a core2duo T5500 @ 166Ghz and i have 15 Gb of RAM with Integrated graphics card of intel 950 i run now microsoft windows vista home premium, but if can run os x, i will change with no doubt.
With the torrent, thank you Yellow Snow, and others seeding, but we need more seeds. The download is going pretty good, I'm getting around 600kB/s 40% done, and I'll full force seed once I got it downloaded.
Only upload this torrent and use your full upload bandwidth. A good nights upload will for sure take care of the seed shortage. many will only need an hour or two to get 100% of this torrent.
In the meantime I obviously need to download the rest of the file from somewhere so -- You know who you are. If your file is at 100% that dosent mean stop the file and close the window. It helps if you seed for a while after your downoad has completed.
I'm guessing it won't but I'm not sure what implications that will have on my installation? This used Intel D865GBF board can go to 4 Gig I believe, shoud I load it up?
someone There are probably no seeds because everyone is too busy reformatting their machines, or running osx in a different partition than the one they downloaded the torrent in.
Bob Downloaded the torrent, burned the DVD, and restarted several times, only to be greeted by a box telling me I need to restart my computer. Googled it, and apparently it's a Kernel Panic, which doesn't help me much. Is anyone else having this problem, or does anyone know how to fix it?
ejonesss update on above i after a little searching found that you have to respond immediately otherwise it tries to look for a non existent file. unfortunately the dvd activity indicator only flashed a couple times and it is stuck on the spinning wheel and it never boots. i forgot to mention there is only 256 meg of ram in the machine i wouldnt think that would cause any problems since the boot is very minimal and os x has an always on virtual memory.
FRance Finished downloading it, First batch who reached 100%.. Still uploading, hope it works for my Asus Z96js Laptop.. Many Thanks to Eskurza, Upchuck and the guy who posted its instructions here..
Jancis Next step - if anyone else has problem with blank screen and cursor blinking - boot install disk, press f8 (in beginning, when asked) and type in boot parameters: "rd=disk0s1'' (without quotes)..
Jancis might be something wrong :/ i burned in linux wait, windows says iso image is "2 621 407 232 bytes" big. if this is the same for you then you have to throw out bloated nero sht.
amadeo Downloaded it, burned, seems to be the real thing. On VirtualPC, I get to the "apple logo" screen - then it crashes. I have access to a P4 and a Core, but only in a few days...
But when i get the screen where i have to choose with partition to install it too, there are no partitions, or drives if u wish, shown. Do many more people have this problem, anyone have a solution?
looks like a botch up was dun to the latest because at 2 gig it is not big enough to hold the startup files. is it just a upgrade that is meant to be installed from the current session without rebooting or is it meant to be bootable by it's self...
