4/16 The Obama couple had an AGI of $2.6M in 2008 and $4.2M in 2007! http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/92476/?fp=1 How much did the Dubyas and the Clintons make? \_ Obama wrote two bestselling books right around that time. \_ But Obama wasn't that famous before the presidental election campaign in 2008. \_ Dude, they were bestsellers. (Looking if up Dreams from my Father was a rereleased in 2004, to high critical acclaim.) Look it up dude, from wikipedia: "Their 2007 tax return showed a household income of $4.2 million, up from about $1 million in 2006 and $1.6 million in 2005, mostly from sales of his books." Further reading at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Audacity_of_Hope and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreams_from_My_Father \_ Why did Michelle Obama, who is highly educated, make so little? \_ are you being internet troll. MOBAMA made a pretty good salaray before this first lady business \_ I read that she made $63K last year. \_ I read she was making 300k as a hospital admin \_ Might be true. She made $63K last year. Maybe because she took a lot of leave for the campaign? "Obama earned $139,204 as a Democratic senator from Illinois last year before leaving his seat after winning the November election. Michelle Obama received a salary of $62,709 from the University of Chicago Hospitals, where she was an executive." Source: http://tinyurl.com/djn9ve |

buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/92476/?fp=1 My Activity Buzz Search The Buzz Log What's hot on Yahoo! Our crack team of editors takes a closer look at the hottest trends on Yahoo! And that includes the leader of the free world and his right-hand man. Vice President Biden were recently released to the public. Quicker than you can say "spread the wealth," searches on both documents skyrocketed. But when it's the Obamas' and the Bidens', the 1040s are actually pretty interesting. Reuters, President Obama (who filed jointly with his wife, Michelle), reported an adjusted gross income of $2,656,902. They paid roughly $855,000 in federal income taxes and almost $78,000 in state income taxes. Now hold up--since when do (honest) politicians make millions of dollars? In comparison to his boss's return, Vice President Biden's 1040 looked downright modest. The VP and his wife reported an income of $269,256 for 2008. Still, a good portion of that came from sales of Mr Biden's memoir, "Promises to Keep." UPI reports that the Bidens reported donations of $1,885 to charity in 2008, but the White House notes that the Bidens made additional donations to their church that weren't included (lest you think they're stingy). |
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Audacity_of_Hope In the less than 20 minutes it took to deliver the speech, Obama was catapulted to sudden fame, with many analysts predicting that he might be well-positioned to enter a future presidential race. In 2006, Obama released The Audacity of Hope, a book-length account that expanded upon many of the same themes he originally addressed in the convention speech. In his speech addressing the Democratic National Convention in 2004, Obama said: " In the end, that's what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or a politics of hope? I'm not talking about blind optimism here -- the almost willful ignorance that thinks unemployment will go away if we just don't talk about it, or the health care crisis will solve itself if we just ignore it. It's the hope of slaves sitting around a fire singing freedom songs; |
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreams_from_My_Father Obama's parents separated when he was two years old and divorced in 1964. Obama formed an image of his absent father from stories told by his mother and her parents. He saw his father only one more time, in 1971, when Obama Sr. When Obama was ten, he returned to Hawaii under the care of his grandparents (and later his mother) for the better educational opportunities available there. Punahou School from the 5th grade until his graduation in 1979. Obama writes: "For my grandparents, my admission into Punahou Academy heralded the start of something grand, an elevation in the family status that they took great pains to let everyone know." Obama recounts the difficulty of the experience, as his program faced resistance from entrenched community leaders and apathy on the part of the established bureaucracy. Toni Morrison has called Obama "a writer in my high esteem" and the book "quite extraordinary." She praised "his ability to reflect on this extraordinary mesh of experiences that he has had, some familiar and some not, and to really meditate on that the way he does, and to set up scenes in narrative structure, dialogue, conversation--all of these things that you don't often see, obviously, in the routine political memoir biography. |
