Sophia Kazmi Valley Times Posted: 01/15/2009 07:38:24 PM PST Updated: 01/16/2009 06:47:48 AM PST DUBLIN -- Rosa Hill, the woman accused of killing 91-year-old Selma Hill of Dublin and trying to kill her estranged husband, said that she is shocked to be sitting in jail. In an interview at Santa Rita Jail on Thursday, Rosa Hill said she and her mother were the victims of assault. She argues that Eric Hill, her estranged husband, was the aggressor. Rosa Hill, 33, of Oakland, and her mother, Mei Li, 55, of Antioch, have both been charged with the murder of Selma Hill -- whose body was found dumped into her trash can -- and the attempted murder of Selma's grandson, Eric Hill, 37. Rosa Hill's father, Ping Li, 68, has been charged as an accessory after the fact. "I went to talk to (Eric) just for the sake of the baby, and he attacked me," Rosa Hill said. She declined to talk about much else surrounding the events of Jan. Her grandson lived there with his and Rosa Hill's 2-year-old daughter. The couple is going through a divorce, and Eric Hill had legal custody of the child. Eric Hill told police he got home just before 6 pm that day, and he went upstairs to check on his grandmother and was surprised and attacked by Mei Li and Rosa Hill. Mei Li hit him over the head with a baton, and Rosa Hill pointed a gun at him and said she was taking her daughter, he said. She shocked him with a stun gun when he fought Advertisement back, he told investigators. Police found Tasers, stun guns, a baton, handcuffs, a revolver, rope, duct tape and gloves at the scene. Before being taken to the hospital, Eric Hill told police that he could not find his grandmother. Police found her body wrapped in a bedsheet inside a trash can. She had Taser and stun gun burns on her body, a strangulation mark on her neck and had been hit over the head. Rosa Hill denies being armed or making statements about taking the girl. She said she learned about Selma Hill's death from the police. Rosa Hill declined to say how she got inside the Dublin house, wanting to talk to a lawyer first. She said she is having a hard time finding an attorney because she cannot read well without her glasses and all her numbers are on her cell phone. As of Wednesday, her parents also have not yet found representation. The night Selma Hill died, police found Ping Li waiting for his wife in a parked car not far from the house. He said in a jailhouse interview Saturday that his wife asked him for a ride to the house because her daughter needed help. She said she would get a ride back with Rosa Hill, but Ping Li said he decided to wait because he was not sure how to get back home to Antioch. Rosa Hill said that she asked her mother to come to the house because, "I didn't want to go in by myself." In a jailhouse interview Sunday, Mei Li said her daughter called saying she was stuck in the Dublin home. On Thursday, Rosa Hill said that she doesn't understand why her husband was granted legal custody of their daughter. She said Eric Hill was violent toward her and moved out of their Fremont home in 2007 after she suspected he had molested their daughter. She said authorities did not pursue the matter after she called the police and had her daughter examined. According to divorce court records, Rosa Hill also said she suspected that her husband had been trying to poison her. According to records in the murder case, the son of Selma Hill's boyfriend came by the house to check on her the day she died because his father could not reach her. The man and another person were at the house about an hour before Eric Hill came home. He took them inside and they waited downstairs when he went to check on her. They told police they ran for help when they heard screaming and what sounded like a gunshot coming from the upstairs.
