That part of his life is scarcely mentioned in "Dreams From My Father"; Let me just toss out the outlines of a theory that has just hit my inbox and left me agog. First, the usual disclaimers - this is speculative, there are gaps and leaps of logic, and nothing can be proven. For example, he had a moment of awakening at Occidental College when he gave a brief but well-received speech to kick off an anti-apartheid demonstration. Other sources indicate he maintained that interest while at Columbia. A flavor from the Times: The police said they had several links between the robbery suspects and other people associated with radical activities in the past. These are just dots and it may be impossible to connect them, but we have Barack Obama at Columbia working on South African divestment (as were many peaceful protestors) while other radical elements with a Weather Underground flavor are setting bombs, killing cops, and working on South African divestment. He said he was somewhat involved with the Black Student Organization and anti-apartheid activities, though, in recent interviews, several prominent student leaders said they did not remember his playing a role. Here was a guy who had spent his life hanging with radicals and seeking out causes. Now, at what was practically Ground Zero for campus activists, he decides to hide in the library. Dohrn goes to jail rather than cooperate with the gj about the bombings and later adopts Boudin and Gilbert's child, Chessa, when they begin serving long prison sentences for their roles in the bombings. The idea that Obama met Ayers in NY is entirely plausible, and goes a long way toward explaining why he left NY to "community organize" in Chicago, summered at a law firm that hired Ayers's wife, and was sponsored by Ayers for his first executive position and then political office. You are the one conflating bisexuality and "seducing a 13-year old girl" and turning into "he liked young boys." In fact, if you read the UK Telegraph article about this guy from a year ago (Confed Yankee has it, I won't link to it), you'd see the claim he likes young boys is pretty much a non-starter. Come on, just for the humor impaired, it was spelled out with "This post is not intended to spread that rumor" and deriding "Obama Derangement Syndrome". And even without the disclaimer, the formulation of the rumor was so intentionally kooky, that he was making it obvious that only a moron could take it seriously. When an adult rapes a 10 year old, it is in Erick's snarky phrasing: the 10 year old "had an affair". Is there any way to read a statement about a 10 year old "having an affair" with an adult as anything but satire? With those red flags intentionally thrown up, it was obviously a joke to see how many suckers would take it seriously. Short anecdote: I remember years ago when my dad first needed to take antihypertensive medication and while waiting for a haircut in a barber shop, he just happened to read something about a certain side-effect of the drug he was given - in Enquirer. Later that day after speaking with his cardiologist, he received a call back from the doctor and amazingly, the warning about the medication was in fact true, and that my dad should stop taking the medication. My #2 option is that I hope like crazy the rumor about Barack having an affair with his staffer that has relocated to Martinique is freakin' true. A longtime (20+ years) associate pastor on staff had been exposed to have been molesting his own son for over 10 years. The son married and a few years into his marriage (2006-7) he exposed the acts to his wife, friends, and church staff. The associate pastor attempted to cover it up but the truth came out. I don't now how to be gentle about this so I'll just say it... If Davis abused Obama, there is a great chance that the pattern would be repeated with his own children. I, like many others, knew the abuser and the abused in the scandal. Forget the presidency, for the sake of Barack's children this needs to be addressed immediately.... |
