Barack Obama says his answer about abortion at the Saddleback Church forum was "probably" too flip. During separate televised interviews last month, Pastor Rick Warren asked the two presidential candidates when a baby gets human rights.
George Stephanopoulos in an interview taped for "This Week": "What I intended to say is that, as a Christian, I have a lot of humility about understanding when does the soul enter into ... And so, all I meant to communicate was that I don't presume to be able to answer these kinds of theological questions." In the ABC interview, Obama goes on to give the answer he wishes he'd given: "What I do know is that abortion is a moral issue, that it's one that families struggle with all the time. And that in wrestling with those issues, I don't think that the government criminalizing the choices that families make is the best answer for reducing abortions. "I think the better answer -- and this was reflected in the Democratic platform -- is to figure out, how do we make sure the young mothers, or women who have a pregnancy that's unexpected or difficult, have the kind of support they need to make a whole range of choices, including adoption and keeping the child. In an electric interview, Obama suggested again and again that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate, is unprepared for the job.
Russia gives her foreign-policy credentials: "Well, look. You know, I actually knew that Russia was next to Alaska, as well. But Obama's team recognizes that picking a fight over experience isn't necessarily in Obama's interest, and he acknowledged as much in the interview: "You know, this whole rsum contest that's been going back and forth is not what the American people are looking for." Obama also accused the McCain campaign of cynicism by frequently attacking him and then denying it: "I mean, these guys love to throw a rock and hide their hand." However, Obama said he did not agree with the commentators who saw "racial code" in the Republicans' mocking reference to his early work as a "community organizer" during their convention. "You know, I didn't hear that," Obama told Stephanopoulos. "I mean, I just think that there is a -- for folks who suddenly have tried to grab the change banner, you know, they've got a very traditional view of what service means. "You know, it means, running for office and being a politician, I guess. I mean, those are the two options that I think they've talked about. I think there are a whole lot of people -- young people, in particular -- who are teaching in underserved schools or working in a hospital in need, you know, volunteering for their community, that think that's part of the change that we need. That's part of the energy that we've been able to mobilize in this campaign." Obama disclosed that he had once considered serving in the military. "I had to sign up for Selective Service when I graduated from high school. "And I actually always thought of the military as an ennobling and, you know, honorable option. We weren't engaged in an active military conflict at that point. And so, it's not an option that I ever decided to pursue."
updated BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA IS NOT READY TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. SARA PALIN IS NOT READY TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. The difference is ---- only one of them is running for the job.
The organization is called Public Allies and Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama was a founding member of the board of directors in 1992. He later resigned and his wife became executive director of the group. WND reported earlier when Obama asserted in a Colorado Springs speech that the US needs a "civilian national security force" that would be as powerful, strong and well-funded as the half-trillion dollar Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force. It describes itself as serving communities "while developing better leaders for tomorrow." Young adults are placed in "community leadership" posts with various agencies and given weekly "training." That, the editorial said, "is to radicalize American youth and use them to bring about 'social change' through threats, pressure, tensions and confrontation ? the tactics used by the father of community organizing, Saul 'The Red' Alinsky."
This country needs real leaders not people that keep insisting they were right about a speech given in 2002! Time to move over bama - McCain is coming to lead this country and will focus on education and small businesses because they are the ones who create jobs - not higher taxes - you say on the wealthy - to pay for everyone else - got news for you - how about everyone pay their fare share instead of saying the rich will pay for you! Pro-Choice and Pro-McCain/Palin because putting your country first means being more than a 1 issue voter.
Unfortunately most of you are too comfortable to believe that. This country is going the wrong direction because too many of you think everyone needs to live the way you want them to live.
The way Republicans are portraying Palin, it feels like McCain is HER running mate. You want an 18 month experienced ultra conservative governor who speaks like Dick Cheney to be your next President. There may be some stupid people in this country, but McCain dreams more than 50% are stupid enough to swallow this.
LogicalSolutions Party: Independent Reply #12 Date: Sep. This country is going the wrong direction because too many of you think everyone needs to live the way you want them to live. You mean work hard, do good in school, don't live off people's taxes, speak English, follow our laws, pay your taxes, value our men and women in uniform and have pride in country. I would rather have a moose hunter from Alaska than a jackass from Chicago.
He's really sort of pathetic in this interview, isn't he? First it's all about historical revisionism because he wasn't prepared for a question that any politician could have anticipated at Saddleback. Then, it's trying to get a little of that military shine by saying he "considered" joining the military, but didn't because, well, the war was over. First of all, I'm sure he did "consider" joining the military--the whole time he was laughing with his friends about the stupid people who would ever do such a thing. Because obviously, in 1979 there wasn't a draft, he could have enlisted in the military whether or not there was a war going on. Palin didn't just look out her window flying over Alaska and see Russia in the distance and claim she had foreign policy experience. of Alaska, she has governing experience with other nations on trade and commerce issues. Her state is next door to Russia, which just invaded Georgia, and Putin has steadily eroded Democratic policies in Russia. Obama's trivializing of that issue makes him look even more like a complete DILETTANTE. He's not serious about anything except his own ego needs. This man is a disaster waiting to happen for this country. And, after 8 long years of disaster, we shouldn't stand for Barack Obama as Bush, Act II. He exposes his petulance, his defensiveness, his inexperience on the world stage, his jealousy and his duplicitousness about the answer on conception. If you have a value and a principle--stand up and say so Barack.
LogicalSolutions Party: Independent Reply #17 Date: Sep. any 10th grader could have anticipated the questions raised at Saddleback. I would rather have a moose hunter from Alaska than a jackass from Chicago.
Was it because he grew up in Hawaii and was sensitive to surprise attacks? Well his war strategies seem to be all about abort, abort, abort and only at the first signs of just possible trouble. It remarkably was another darker skinned with curlier hair tv face that came out and said of Obama that his democrats are just trying to be Robin Hood with promises to steal from the rich to give to the poor. I forget such personalities name or cv and whether she was credited as a "republican strategist"? I am still freshly angry again from having watched parts of a "Secrets of 9/11" show recently and the "United 93" movie last night. Especially still appalling is Richard Clarke's sense of "priorities" of sorts. I usually forget the flig...
