csua.org/u/m8x -> thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/02/alaska-party-official-says-palin-was-not-a-member/ The New York Times The chairwoman of an Alaskan political party that advocates a vote on the state's secession from the union said Tuesday that she had been mistaken when she said Gov. A front-page story in The New York Times on Tuesday and articles in other news media reported that Ms Palin was a member of the Alaska Independence Party for two years in the 1990's. The information in the Times article was based on a statement issued Monday night by Lynette Clark, the party's chairwoman, who said that Ms Palin joined the party in 1994 and in 1996 changed her registration to Republican. On Tuesday night, Ms Clark said that her initial statement was incorrect and had been based on erroneous information provided by another member of the party whom she declined to identify. The McCain campaign also disputed the Times report, saying that Ms Palin had been registered consistently as a Republican. After checking the party's archives, Ms Clark said that she could find no documentation that Governor Palin had been a member of the party. She said Ms Palin attended the party's 1994 and 2006 conventions and provided a video-taped address as governor to the 2008 convention. Ms Clark said that Ms Palin's husband, Todd, was a former member of the party. Link It appears Ms Clark had an epiphany concerning her own political future and the petty vindictive nature of a potential VP that could be more like Cheney than Cheney. Link Is she wasn't a member of the Independence Party, then why was Ms Palin giving a video taped address to their 2008 Convention? And why was she in attendance at their 1994 and 2006 convention? Considering how politically motivated and active Ms Palin is, to the point where she would stab a member of her family from taking over as Mayor of her town - I really doubt that she would allow her husband, Todd, to just drag her anywhere like most wives and girlfriends of closet SF fanboys going to the San Diego Comic-Con. Link Listening to the democrats you would think Alaska offered nothing to the lower 48. The liberal media seems to want to cling to anything that will denigrate the republicans. Supporting papers and editorials should know that we are all separate little media and our voice is heard in many ways and many places not just the local publishers opinion to the local constituency. She got a couple of phone calls and now she "remembers" Palin was never a member. There are documents one can easily check, or they disappeared? Here is a video of some old crank from the Independence Party sayig that Palin was a member, apparently before she was nominated for VP. But we all make typos when we type faster than we think. Sarah Palin and her husband were members of the Alaska Independence Party and Sarah Palin did address one of their conventions on very friendly terms in 2008. Link The RepubliCONS have stepped to a new low for even them, let alone what they have done to this nation over the last 8 years. I cannot believe that any Democrat or sane RepubliCON would be caught anywhere near the Alaska Independence Party! I think the RepubliCONS will lose big-time this coming November and in 10-15 years most of the old, white people sitting at their convention tonight will get to face their maker. Link So many fresh 404 errors when searching for photos and other information about Ms Palin's past: foreshadowing. I'm holding those who vote for her personally accountable when the books disappear from the libraries. hpid=artslot After reading the above-mentioned and the recent piece in the Times about her expertise in wedge politics, I really really really dislike this woman. Link Why was Palin's husband a member of AIP until 2002 and why did Palin address their convention in 2008? It would be great if we could actually ask Sarah Palin these questions. Link I'm a liberal who was a lifelong Democrat until June (I walked because of the party's handling of HRC's candidacy), and I find the hypocrisy and tendentiousness of other liberals regarding Palin revolting and beneath contempt. This is especially true of all the liberal, self-proclaimed "feminist" women I've seen in these blog posts who are judging Palin for running for VP even though she has a Downs Syndrome baby. "Why, *I* find it exhausting to raise even my three regular-needs kids and volunteer twice a week at the PTA! How could *any* woman ever do a demanding job with five, including one with special needs?" Did it ever occur to you that maybe you're ordinary, and Palin is extraordinary? And maybe that's why she's governor of Alaska and you're not? Link She has been on the National stage for five days now, and it looks like twenty years of scandal being recycled fast forward.... I don'nt have a good feeling about MsPalin and my gut feeling is that we have only scratched the surface of an iceberg and more scandals to come as the campagin unfolds.... The losers are the GOP and the winners, Comedy Central and late night talk shows Stay tuned! her husband has longstanding dedicated ties, so she KNOWS what the party stands for: "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." The founder of the Alaska Independence Party once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag." Link The democrats should continue to lie about this woman and spread their smear around. Will only make me work harder to convince the former democrats I know to vote McCain. Certainly makes it easier to show people what a bunch of crackpots are out there. Link musing- When any candidate or party has to start blaming the media for their problems, they have officially jumped the shark. Bottom line: McCain made a horrible choice for his running mate. Link So why isn't your lack of fact checking a page one story? Maybe this was a right wing conspiracy to make you look like bias idiots trying to destroy a woman and her family? Link "Vetting" is a process in which you check the VP candidates for having a good record and no possible pesonal/professional scandals. So far, we have seen in Ms Palin: -A corruption scandal over a fired employee -A pregnant, unmarried teen daughter Yet, knowing these things, the Republicans picked her anyway. Let's face it: Palin WAS NOT PICKED FOR MERIT, EXPERIENCE OR GOOD RECORD OR STANDING. Link Can those records be subpoenaed, floppies scoured and hard drives analyzed? What "archives" did she check, and how many "archives" are there besides the one that AIP /Chairwoman Lynette Clark check? If there's a loophole - good gracious, leave it up to a Republican to find it, exploit it, use it and then blame the other guy for the nasty results. Since the word of Ms Clark cannot be relied upon, is there another channel to verify or discredit the claim that Palin was indeed a member of a pro-secessionist party from 1994 to 1996 - or, even before then or after then? What a pall McCain has cast on the importance of taking careful precaution when weighing the gravity of decisions as a potential leader of our Executive Branch. thecaucus&posall=TopAd,Position1,Position1B,Top5,SponLink,SFMidd le,Box1,Box3,Bottom3,Right5A,Right6A,Right7A,Right8A,Middle1C,Bottom7, Bottom8,Bottom9,Inv1,Inv2,Inv3,tacoda,SOS,ADX_CLIENTSIDE&pos=Position1 &query=qstring&keywords=? thecaucus&posall=TopAd,Position1,Position1B,Top5,SponLink,SFMidd le,Box1,Box3,Bottom3,Right5A,Right6A,Right7A,Right8A,Middle1C,Bottom7, Bottom8,Bottom9,Inv1,Inv2,Inv3,tacoda,SOS,ADX_CLIENTSIDE&pos=SFMiddle& query=qstring&keywords=? Good comment Marked as spam Reply Marked as spam Palin Almost Recalled As Mayor Huffington Post Seems that Palin honed this skill back as Mayor of Wasilla, where she was nearly recalled, for firing the Police Chief and Library Director for not supporting her in her 1996 race for Mayor. She didn't say the Police Chief and Library Director were doing a bad job. No, she fired them for "not fully supporting her efforts to govern" (ie, not endorsing her for Mayor). Good comment Marked as spam Reply The McCain campaign motto: "Country First" The motto of Sarah Palin and her Alaskan Independence Party: "Alaska First -- Alaska Always." Why'd McCain choose someone to be AMERICA'S VP who belonged to a group whose founder said, "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." US taxpayers paid for that land, taxpayers paid for the roads to be built, spent trillions on infrastructure. It's simple, lunatics who want to steal Alaska are traitors to the USA! Less info) Sarah Palin was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party whose motto is "Alaska First, Alaska First Always" and whose leaders are active participants in a movement to secede from the United States. As recently as March, she welcomed their political convention and spoke of their shared philosophy of government and faith. |
tinyurl.com/5ax5es -> tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/todd_palin_was_registered_memb.php disputed rumors that presumptive vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin was ever registered with the secessionist Alaska Independence Party by releasing years of voter registration history . This afternoon, the director of Division of Elections in Alaska, Gail Fenumiai, told TPMmuckraker that Todd Palin registered in October 1995 to the Alaska Independence Party, a radical group that advocates for Alaskan secession from the United States. Besides a short period of a few months in 2000 when he changed his registration to undeclared, Todd Palin remained a registered member of AIP until July 2002 when he registered again as an undeclared voter. Permalink And this will turn off the Evangelicals and religious right how? I'm honestly thinking this will rally them all the more, because I believe their thought process is that God IS calling them into this "holy" war, as if it's some sort of modern crusade. I've already heard from one person today - get this - that Palin is the end for Obama. His exact quote: "I think it's over for your boy" in reference to Palin. make no mistake, as much as this is getting reported on the left, it's getting spun ever more fervently on the right. they're taking it as an affront to her and to their candidate and they're going to fight like hell to use this to their advantage. The fundies will love her, and the old secessionists in the South will love her. Not that they have strong opinions about secession, exactly . And when you add that to a story about your brother-in-law using a taser on his son, and other kinds of family stories that don't need to be reiterated . the pearls-and-golf sort of Republicans are going to say "Oh, dear. Do we really want her to be a broken blood vessel away from assuming leadership in a time of crisis?" The tracking polls suggest that they are already beginning to think that way. Moreover, it's a distraction *exactly* when they don't need a distraction. Permalink NPR's All Things Considered had a story this afternoon about how thrilled evangelicals are by Sara Palin. Sam Brownback saye the people at his church are thrilled. Every one of the people interviewed had the same GOP talking points. She has more "executive" experience than Biden and Obama. Her daughter is marrying the guy who knocked her up (my words, not theirs) but it's a personal matter. I didn't hear the one about her foreign policy "expertise" because Alaska is so close to Russia but that one's going around elsewhere today. is using the Rovian formula of rousing the Base and dissing the rest. Permalink Oh Vader, I think you or your boy are sadly mistaken. At the end of the day, this election, like most, will be won with people in the middle- not righties or lefties. I mean, Mike Huckabee was a pastor, and yet somehow he lost to the secular McCain. And those that are so in love with Sarah are the grass roots people who were going to vote for McCain anyway, maybe not enthusiastically- but you don't measure excite in voting booths. Permalink Personally I think the AIP is potentially very damaging and could be the straw that forces her off the ticket. They say she was a member and she made a taped address to them this year that sounds supportive. They made such a fuss over Obama's patriotism because he didn't wear a flag pin but this is being an active member of a group whose sole purpose is to bring about a vote on whether to secede. but he was complaining about our government going to war and about treatment of black Americans, not the same as saying he wants to form an independent state. His messages were predominantly Christian, with a few of such complaints now and then... |
