8/14 Cheating China caught changing the web articles exposing the cheating
        http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2008/08/busted-china-caught-cheating-female.html
\_ What is it with communist countries giving way too much importance
           to the Olympics?
\_ It's the trappings of democracy. They love the appearance of
legitimacy without all of the mess of actually going legit.
\_ Totalitarian governments need propaganda to legitimize themselves
and rally popular support. It's like how they build fancy
buildings to demonstrate how great the government is doing.
\_ I'm pretty sure capitalist countries give way more importance to
              sports than communist countries.
\_ capitalist countries don't drug their female athletes
with steroid and other dosages like they did in
East Germany (when they incidentally won a bunch of
metals in the 70s and 80s) and tried to hide the
                 records in secret government files.
\_ yeah, right, they just drug them with steroids and other
dosages and try to hide the records in secret corporate
                    files. -tom
\_ So what's worse, government sponsored steroid or
                       corporate sponsored steroid?
\_ I choose: none of the above.
                    \_ Uh no, they don't.
\_ what planet are you living on? -tom
\_ So western governments drug people and hide
the records in corporate files? Prove it?
People may take drugs, but that's different.
\_ Are you Lack Of Reading Comprehension Guy?
Here's a hint: google BALCO. -tom
\_ The Invisible Hand doesn't like your tone
                                   of voice.
\_ You dumbass, that wasn't a "country" doing
that. Our country investigated that shit,
not instigated it. Tom, I revoke your
                                   privilages.
\_ One smack for misspelling "privileges."
Another smack for making me look up
the correct spelling. For fuck's sake,
                                      look it up next time.
\_ some joker added that sentence to
                                        my post
\_ Sorry, to be more specific, I meant 'governments.' Also,
                'Olympics' != 'sports'.
\_ Between the fake fireworks on TV (http://www.csua.org/u/m1v and
the Milli-Vanilli on stage (http://www.csua.org/u/m3n this is not
           that bad.

Thursday, August 14, 2008 SPUN GOLD--- CHINA BUSTED Scrubbing Internet of Articles That Show GymnastsAre Too Young! Check out the updates below--- China Caught Scrubbing Internet-- Gymnasts Are Too Young! The New York Times reported on August 4, 2008: With the start of the women's gymnastics competition less than one week away, questions are again being raised about the age of a Chinese gymnast scheduled to compete at the Beijing Games. Yang Yilin, a top contender for gold in the all-around and the uneven bars, could be 14 instead of the minimum age of 16, The Associated Press reported Sunday. She is the third of six Olympians on the Chinese women's gymnastics team whose age has been questioned in the lead-up to these Olympics. Registration lists from 2003 to 2006, previously posted on the Web site of the General Administration of Sport of China, said Yang was born on Aug. Gymnasts must turn 16 during the year of the Olympics to be eligible to compete in the Games. On the 2007 registration list, Yang's birthday changed to Aug. Chinese gymnastics officials have not yet addressed the question of Yang's age. Jacques Rogge, the president of the International Olympic Committee, said in a news conference Saturday that age eligibility was not an IOC issue, and that the International Gymnastics Federation, known by the acronym FIG, is in charge of making sure gymnasts are old enough to compete. The FIG's secretary general, Andr Gueisbuhler, told The AP that he would not comment about Yang's age because he had not seen the paperwork. Four of the six gymnasts on the Chinese women's Olympic team -- Yang Yilin, He Kexin, Deng Linlin and Jiang Yuyuan -- at an Olympic souvenir store at the athletes' village Sunday in Beijing. Jiang Yuyuan might not yet be 16, the minimum age for Olympic eligibility for gymnastics. On the website of the Chengdu Sports Bureau - Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province in southwest China - a file dated January 2006 shows He as being born 1 January 1994. Most recently, a 23 May story in the China Daily newspaper, the official English language paper of the Chinese government, had He's age as 14. The newspaper story says: "The 14-year-old newcomer to the national team, who was recruited last year, has raised a lot of eyebrows recently after she broke two world records on the uneven bars in as many months." China Daily reported: "The 14-year old newcomer to the national team, who was recruited last year, has raised a lot of eyebrows recently after she broke two world records on the uneven bars in as many months." China Daily now reads: The 16-year-old newcomer to the national team, who was recruited last year, has raised a lot of eyebrows recently after she broke two world records on the uneven bars in as many months. translated view of that article on He Kexin from last November claiming she was 13 at the time: This article was originally written in the official language of China so they cannot claim it was mistranslated. I think it was the Barcelona games that did the Olympics in for me. The Communist East German -d-r-u-g-p-u-s-h-e-r-s- coaches all flew to Beijing after the Berlin Wall came down. And 'out of nowhere,' according to the Olympic broadcasters, here came the sculpted Communist Chinese athletic team to challenge for Gold after Gold. Before then they could be beaten in swimming by the Jamaican bobsled team. Now the pharmaceutically-enhanced Chinese were in contention for everything. And probably to complicate matters more is that Asians traditionally calculate birthdays differently. In any circumstance, the Chinese team performed much better than the Americans... Well, all that has to happen is for a formal complaint to be filed with the IOC and the FIG about this. If the paperwork shows that they were underage the Chinese team will be stripped of it's medals. I remember all the hand wringing in the 80's over countries cheating by paying their athletes on the sly to retain amateur status and still compete in the Olympics. I'm happy we've dropped that draconian foolishness and allowed the world to pay their athletes, it should be a free market for labor. The same applies here, although the Chinese have probably broken the rules, and cheated, in the long run it sounds like they need to drop the age requirement so that the best athletes in the world can compete. These 14 year olds beat the tar out of our 17 year olds. If they're capable of performing at a higher level, without drugs, than our athletes then they should be able to compete. If they need enhancement to compete, then they should be denied the competition. I don't have a problem with kids 'honestly'(no drugs) participating in the olympics. BTW, the first olympics didn't have women, boys, or little girls. I would say that everything since is an artificial construct based on the whim of the IOC. The IOC won't do anything because they a) lack balls and b) will get a very nice sum as "donation" from China. Heck, you don't see this new development on the mainstream news anyway, so why should China worry? And honestly, what do you expect from a country that has so manipulated its own history that its own people have no idea about the facts anymore? a rule is a rule and Chinese is good in breaking it for their glory, see all the recalled products they made. i think, as you can see from American girls, after they turn 16 the hormone changed their body shape to be more a woman look which, for better or worst, is the physical limit to all those moves. so, biologically set the age to 16 is the compromise for that purpose. at last, just a joke, as long as their government said that they are 16 and you criticize them, in their view, you are interfering their interior affairs. If they're capable of performing at a higher level, without drugs, than our athletes then they should be able to compete. These concerns are more significant than some "artificial construct". By the logic italicized above, to use one example many here are familiar with, we should go back to letting young kids throw curve balls in Little League if they can do so "at a higher level" ... whatever happened to letting kids be kids, while they still are kids? I wonder how many of y'all who think underage athletes are just peechy-keen, also thought that "every vote should count" in Florida, back about two Olympics ago ... for that is another expression of simplistic, myopic thinking like this. Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian throws away medal in Olympic hissy fit Abrahamian threw down his 84kg greco-roman bronze in disgust after his shot at gold was ended by a decision denounced by the Swedish coach as "politics". Abrahamian took the medal from around his neck during the medal ceremony, stepped from the podium and dropped it in the middle of the mat before storming off. The Swedish wrestler had to be restrained by team-mates earlier as a row erupted with judges over the decision in a semi-final bout with Andrea Minguzzi of Italy, who went on to the take gold. Abrhamian, who won silver at the Athens 2004 Games, shouted at the referee, then went over to confront judges, angrily throwing off the restraining arm of a team official. Swedish fans booed loudly as the judges filed out of the arena. Abrahamian said nothing to waiting reporters but whacked an aluminium barricade with his fist as he left the hall. Myllari did not say if he intended to lodge a formal protest over the decision by referee Jean-Marc Petoud of Switzerland, judge Lee Ronald Mackay of Canada, and mat chairman Guillermo Orestes Molina of Cuba. There are two reason why the age limit for Olympic gymnasts is set to 16. They are more flexible, and have a higher proportion of muscle mass. The rules are instituted to create a level playing field for all teams/athletes. Well, Even in the land of the Dragon it's OK to lie and get away with it. Besides, the old saying that "money talks and BS walks". It's a proven fact from this kind of news that China still puts their children into slavery. They might not even know about the age restrictions and were told they could compete. I don't like any country cheating, but I don't fault the girls on ...

some of the fireworks which appeared over Beijing during the television broadcast of the Olympic Opening Ceremony were actually computer generated. But -- hold on -- it's not necessarily as bad as you think. The faked fireworks were actually set-off at the stadium, but because of potential dangers in filming the display live from a helicopter, viewers at home were shown a pre-recorded, computer-generated shot. It sounds dishonest, but I'm not sure it's such a terrible thing. The Opening Ceremony is, at its core, just one big performance. And isn't it accepted that some things might not be legit at a performance? The final torch bearer wasn't actually running around the top of the stadium, does the fact that everyone could figure that out make it any less impressive? It might have been unnecessarily deceptive, but the firework-faking isn't really that big of a deal. Report Abuse * 4 "Thank you, number three, for you saying that! People say that because they're lacking in something and they need to say things about others to make themselves feel better. Report Abuse * 7 "We knew that dude wasn't actually running along the edge of the bird's nest but we did not know the fireworks were not all real. Its just so cheezy and typecial of the Chinese government. I just came back to the States after a year there and let me tell you guys, that money could've been put to way better use feeding people and cleaning up other cities other than the one which will host a bunch of foreigners for 2 weeks. No other country can put on such a show because most representative governments cannot in good conscience budget hundreds of millions of dollars for a 2 hour spectacle. While the show was awesome, I couldn't help but think of the many sad sights I saw during my year in China and how many meals that money couldve bought considering you can fill yourself for roughly 50 cents if you wanted to there." Report Abuse * 10 "I think the term should be simulated and not faked. But whether simulated or faked, the fireworks were fantastic and China deserves our admiration. As a matter of fact the whole show was awesome, the best I have seen so far. Report Abuse * 15 "The opening ceremony was a memorable one esp towards the end. "Faked", simulated, digitally enhanced, or whatever, it was a good performance. If anyone of u feel unjustified for any reasons, did u complained when u watch Star Wars the trilogy, or Batman: the Dark Knight? The tone of your article insinuate that the Chinese cheated everyone! It's their show, it's their money to spend, it's their territory, it's their prerogative! I suppose most people who blogged on this fireworks issue also watched movies like The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Batman, Spiderman, even those animated Walt Disney ones and the like. But why did you still bother spending time and money to watch them? Report Abuse * 20 "I heard that they weren't fireworks at all, but actually canisters of flourescent lead based paint. Oh China, ever resourceful, now act like the world leader you want to be and get your hands out of Darfur." Report Abuse * 24 "It's sad that as good a performance as it was, some journalist wants to nit pick about small, inconsequential things in order to make it seem as though it wasn't as spectacular as most individuals perceived it to be." "This was a last-minute question, a choice we had to make," the ceremony's musical designer, Chen Qigang, said. "Our rehearsals had already been vetted several times - they were all very strict. When we had the dress rehearsals, there were spectators from various divisions, including above all a member of the politburo who gave us his verdict: we had to make the swap." A "grueling competition" had been waged to choose the performer, but at the last minute the "swap" was made because the seven year old girl simply did not portray the image that the Chinese wanted to convey to the world, she had buck teeth according to the story. I can't tell you how bad I feel for Yang Peiyi (right), the name of the seven year-old, and her family because she was unable to proudfully claim her rightful place in Olympic history. This is now the second report to dispute what we thought was presented to us during the Opening Ceremony. Report Abuse * 2 "- I can't tell you how bad I feel for Yang Peiyi Perhaps being since people are good enough to dig this out, people can seek the girl out for an interview? I can pretty much tell you the girl will receive enough fame that she does not need you to feel bad for her. I am sure you will say something else if Helicopers crashed just for you to see the real time fireworks(which was shot). Are we actually holding the Olympics in the same city that killed so many protestors just a short time ago? The regime hasn't changed and the names are still the same. The Chinese even found a way to kill an American already while pointing the finger away from their "extremely tight" security. the visual result is planned and delivered to appeal to the audience! Next you will be complaining that Harrison Ford did not really jump across the 50 meter canyon! or that Tom Cruise did not really run across the building tops in Shanghai! Did li Ning really run around the upper perimiter of the Olympic Stadium? The only genuine criteria for the olympics is that athletes must perform to a strict set of Olympic standards; the showmanship in the entertainment is 'created' according to entertainment guidlines, completely at the discretion of the director. Report Abuse * 10 "Not that I would ever feel sorry for him, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Chinese stabber/murderer was thrown from the Tower by Chinese Government officials, instead of committed suicide as reported. It would be less "troublesome" for the Chinese Government to end it quickly, instead of having a long drawn out trial where the perpetrator could speak out his grievances." Why does Yahoo insist on making such a "do" about this stuff? I think it's really funny that l these "hard hitting exposes" about the Opening Ceremony keep coming from a London paper. And no, she was not the "unquestioned star" - I had completely forgotten about that part of the ceremony until now. Report Abuse * 13 "The writer " Nick Friedell " doesn't have a brain to figure out what is right or what is wrong . Even those who write comments have strong analytical skill compared to the write . Report Abuse * 19 "I actually could care less about who is getting substituted for who or waht fireworks are fake or if the gymnists are underage watching their medals get taken away. You seem to be knowledgeable about the high-technology wires. One scene of performers at the Olympics showed them on the huge globe in the center of the Bird's Nest. Some were standing on the equator, their bodies horizontal. Others were standing on the South Pole, their bodies upside down. Seems like because of the length of time they were standing, they would need more than wires.
