7/23 Obama claims that the Banking Committee is "his" committee? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjzb61wfyN0 \_ Well, he is the president! \_ Weak sauce. He was referring to provisions he offered last year to the Iran Sanctions Bill: http://obama.senate.gov/press/080717-senate_banking \_ Okay, so when he said "we just passed" he meant the Senate (fair enough), what did he mean when he emphasized "my committee"? \_ He misspoke: he meant that "his" provisions had been passed by the Banking Committee. \_ I'll take a few minor flubs by Obama over Angry McCain's current bout of doozies. \_ Articulate Harvard educated elitists aren't allowed to flub. Cranky ex-POWs, however, can say whatever they want. \_ Quick, to the Iraq/Pakistan boarder! \_ Yeah! That plays loud music and is like, 2 months behind on his rent! \_ Quick, to the Iraq/Pakistan border! |

www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjzb61wfyN0 On the video, he claims that "his" Banking Committee passed a bill last week. Problem is, not only is he not the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, he's not even a member of the committee. Good comment Marked as spam Reply Qualye screwed up spelling and was an idiot for life. This fake has dozens of screwups, and he gets a pass each and every time. And if you do call him out, well sir, you're just a racist neocon nazi right-wing smear machine liar trying to distract us from hope and change. Good comment Marked as spam Reply Lay off the N word, his ineptitude runs deeper than race. Plain and simple, he is not qualified to be the leader of this great country. Good comment Marked as spam Reply Hell, in one of his earlier ads he claimed credit for legislation that he wasn't even there to vote on! It was Public Law 110-181, The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act. |
obama.senate.gov/press/080717-senate_banking -> obama.senate.gov/press/080717-senate_banking/ Printable Format FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Michael Ortiz, 202 228 5566 WASHINGTON, DC - US Senator Barack Obama today applauded the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee's passage of the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability and Divestment Act of 2008, which includes provisions Obama offered last year in the Iran Sanctions Enabling Act of 2007 (S. The Obama provisions clarify that state and local governments can divest from companies that invest $20 million or more in Iran's energy sector and provide safe harbor for private fund managers who divest from such companies. The Committee approved the measure by a vote of 19 to 2 "Preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons is a vital national security priority. In addition to an aggressive, direct, and principled diplomatic effort, we must continue to increase economic pressure on Iran to convince its government to halt its nuclear program, support for terrorist activity, and threats toward Israel. "This important bipartisan legislation will allow state and local governments and private fund managers to divest from companies that support Iran's energy sector, reducing the revenue Iran uses to expand its nuclear program and sponsor terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. "I commend Chairman Dodd for his leadership on this important issue, and I call on the Senate to quickly pass this legislation."
