11/2 California Uber Alles is such a great song
\_ Yes, and it was written about Jerry Brown. I was thinking this
as I cast my vote for Meg Whitman. I am independent, but I
typically vote Democrat (e.g., I voted for Boxer). However, I

\_ and the state is slowly turning conservative. Meg 2010!
\_ We will see. Seems unlikely.
\_ Yeah, because CA sure has a problem with not enough dems in power!
If only dems had been running the state for the last 40 years!

\_ Even if that number is accurate, it makes California #7. That's

\_ Why not raise tuition? At private universities, students generate
revenue. Students should not be seen as an expense. UC has

2/16 So California is going to lay off 20% of employees. Seems like a
good idea, but won't all those people now get unemployment benefits? So
we'll be paying something like 60% of their salaries (depends on
their income) for 0% of their work.

Last Hope picksets Help Mythbusters recreate Archimedes' death ray Archimedes Death Ray MythBusters needs volunteers to attempt another recreation of Archimedes' legendary solar death ray. David writes - Because it's been so popular with our viewers, this will be our third attempt at a story called Archimedes Death Ray. By using their mirrored shields to focus the sun's rays at the invading ships they could, the myth alleges, set the invading ships on fire and save the city. WHAT WE NEED 300- 350 Volunteers to operate mirrors for the one day of experiment (engineering and science backgrounds preferred) VOLUNTEERS * We would require volunteers to be 18 years or older and to Pre-register with us prior to the experiment date by email. Possible locations include the Greek Theater, Oyster Point Marina or Alameda NAS. Periodic Table of Videos Comments Oldest comments listed first. If its within 100 miles of my location, I would volunteer. Posted by: scote on July 14, 2008 at 12:12 PM Location "Can you give us a clue about where it would be? If its within 100 miles of my location, I would volunteer." They did: "Greek Theater, Oyster Point Marina or Alameda NAS." Berkeley, South San Francisco or Alameda Posted by: anon on July 14, 2008 at 1:09 PM Minor nitpick (which I think you just quoted, so it's not even your fault) but Archimedes was a GREEK and helped repel ROMAN soldiers, not the other way around. Posted by: MCW on July 14, 2008 at 1:09 PM God, I would LOVE to be on Mythbusters, or even help bust a myth. If I lived in California, I'd be there without a doubt :( I always loved that Death Ray myth. If not, they could always set Buster aflame and toss him on the ship! Posted by: TTJ on July 14, 2008 at 1:39 PM Oh no, not again! There is a few problems with the presumed setup of the experiment. This means that the sun in California is less strong than it is in Sicily. those are some very bad locations if they want some strong sunlight. The Greek is up on a hill surrounded by a bunch of trees, Oyster point is... in SF and once you get to south SF thing are normally pretty damn foggy. Alameda might be the best location, as its shielded from the fog, but its still not as good as say if they were in gilroy or stockton or something.
