News tips A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon. County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts. Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office. Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole." That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy. Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster's, is perhaps "the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape." Other county officials quickly interceded to break it up and get the meeting back on track. Comments Posted by Dallas Citizen @ 6:03 PM Mon, Jul 07, 2008 Is John Wiley really so ignorant that he doesn't know what every DISD 5th-grader knows?
report as objectionable Posted by GH Greene @ 8:23 PM Mon, Jul 07, 2008 How typical of John Wiley Price! Any fool knows what a "black hole" refers to in the context in which it was used in this case. When will black Americans quit jumping on every opportunity they get to play the race card!
report as objectionable Posted by Didn'tVoteForPrice @ 8:32 PM Mon, Jul 07, 2008 Geeeeeeeeeeeeez! But I guess this is what the County gets for electing Democrats like Price.
report as objectionable Posted by Ch4 @ 5:25 AM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 I had to move out of Dallas County because I couldn't order coffee or keep my finances on the positive side of the ledger without JWP freaking out and ripping my windshield wiper off of my truck which happens to be black.
report as objectionable Posted by Mike Kagy @ 7:39 AM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 Typical black reaction. You have to ask yourself - are these people REALLY that stupid. Unfortunately, the answer is yes, they REALLY are that stupid.
report as objectionable Posted by Gene @ 8:08 AM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 I'm so happy that I moved out of Dallas county so that my tax dollars are not spent supporting idiots like these guys.
report as objectionable Posted by Fred @ 9:04 AM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 Maybe Price is sensitive that he's stashed so many of his 'brothers' and 'sisters' there is cushy jobs.
report as objectionable Posted by buck @ 11:16 AM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 These comments explain a lot about why Dallas is so polarized. It's rude to use "black" in a negative context -- scientific, maybe, but rude. I hope the Democratic broom sweeps his direction next election.
report as objectionable Posted by dtraeger @ 1:18 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 Gene, your more on than you can possibly know. Let these Career Bureaucratic Fools, figure out how to create Business, Jobs and Revenues in between thier petty squabbles. When you don't agree with Government Policies, stop paying and Vote with your feet!
report as objectionable Posted by John Smith @ 3:08 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 Buck: Is it rude to the color black? This democratic "broom" that you reference is doing really well. We now have a completely disfunctional sheriff's office as well as a county that can't seem to figure out how to balance a budget.
report as objectionable Posted by Max Friedman @ 7:46 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 What happened to Dallas? Did they hire refugees from New Orleans to run the city? The state needs all the help it can get, from anyone, including the big boss.
report as objectionable Posted by Larry @ 7:48 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 My goodness, it seems that Mr Price needs sum edumacation vout the compression and densifications of stellar ojcectifacations.

report as objectionable Posted by timinphoenix @ 7:52 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 He merely confirmed some other people's stereotypes about the lack of intelligence and chip on the shoulder certain groups have.
report as objectionable Posted by Julie Mckinley @ 8:12 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 This is hilarious! Texas has 3 government stooges:The 2 Dallas fools along with Shelia Jackson Lee, who, when told that the US space program had gotten to Mars, asked if they had been able to see the flag that the astronauts left there.
report as objectionable Posted by NotAngelinaJolie @ 8:15 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 It's so sad that a Judge Thomas Jones and Commissioner John Wiley Price seem to lack a basic science education.
report as objectionable Posted by David Adams @ 8:21 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 It would help to use the word SOME when referring to ignorance among Black Americans. I guarantee you that there are many Black Americans in Dalls who know full well what a 'Black Hole' is - and they also know that 'in the Black' means profits. Just let this lone ignoramus stew in his singular stupidity instead of letting him hide behind all Black Americans.
report as objectionable Posted by Smarty @ 9:58 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 Yeah, this is why affirmative action and political gerrymandering are bad for the country. Whatever process allowed two incredibly stupid black men to get into power needs to be destroyed. White men that stupid would not have been allowed to graduate Jr.
report as objectionable Posted by Karen @ 10:01 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 Bwahahaha! It's like on the first Apprentice show when Amorosa got her nose out of joint when someone used the old expression "the pot calling the kettle black" that has nothing to do with race, but with someone accusing someone of something they are also guilty of. Beauty and color are only skin deep, but stupid goes all the way to the bone.
report as objectionable Posted by Al munster @ 10:08 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 The meeting didn't "turn racial" as the Dallas Morning News asserts. Two racist commissioners decided to expose their prejudicial hatred of whites along with a huge dose of ignorance.
report as objectionable Posted by Jesse Jackson's Doppelganger @ 11:01 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 I can't express in non-flaggable language what I think about living in a culture which has become so routinely absurd that Monty Python couldn't have parodied it.
report as objectionable Posted by james wilson @ 11:36 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 It would appear this fellow is too stupid to be blackmailed, but it does not seem black-hearted to have him blackballed. As Einstein said, there are ony two things that are infinite--stupidity and the universe, and he wasn't sure about the universe.
report as objectionable Posted by Greg @ 11:38 PM Tue, Jul 08, 2008 Anyone want to suggest what sort of hole would best describe Price (who made an actual racist comment) and Thomas (who demanded an apology for the non-racist comment but not the racist comment)?
report as objectionable Posted by john @ 12:06 AM Wed, Jul 09, 2008 John Wiley must be feeling his oats again. Ask the woman that he scared nearly to death when he ripped the antenna off her car.
report as objectionable Posted by JimO @ 6:52 AM Wed, Jul 09, 2008 I remember Sheila Jackson Lee speaking at a House space hearing about ten years ago, where I was testifying. She made a remark criticizing what she portrayed as a complete reversal of a NASA policy, by accusing the NASA boss of 'making a 360 degree turn' in his policy. The other congressmen bit their tongues and shuffled a bit in their seats to avoid bursting out loud laughing.
report as objectionable Posted by Georgianative @ 7:42 AM Wed, Jul 09, 2008 I am sure nobody would object to a reference to paperwork disappearing into a hole-of-color.
