Anonymous about 17 hours ago PUBLIC: Looking for a VC that invests in entertainment companies. I am launching a new live action show that is the blending of Cirque du Soleil and Disney. I have funded half to the $5 million needed to launch business, looking for the last half .
Anonymous 1 day ago PUBLIC: I'm currently creating a prototype that will run on specialized hardware, but I am unsure of the lengths required for a prototype. What's more important: the software or the hardware and the software? I plan on pitching angel investors in the Valley and I was curious if you guys had any advice on what they'd prefer to see? I can have the hardware built but I realized that it would cost much less if we used a generic computer for now, so I was curious about the advantages of using the specific hardware for the prototype.
They missed followup phone meetings on multiple occasions. It seems as though they have the keys to the angel kingdom in the DC area, even NYA told us to go through them. They have a new person who is taking over Sam's position hope the situation changes.
Anonymous on 2008-07-01 PUBLIC: I am preparing my pitch my business to some VCs and I've got a 30-slide PPT ready. I'm reading through the threads here and seeing that a business plan may or may not be necessary anymore. I don't have one at the moment but am thinking of starting the process and write one if someone asks to see it.
Posted by Daytona on 2008-06-30 PUBLIC: I recently met with the Sandhill Road based partner Craig Jones. Turns out we were too early stage (they only deal with companies that have booked $5M in revenue). However, he took the time to provide valuable feedback on our pitch.
Anonymous on 2008-06-30 PUBLIC: We are close to completing our business plan, and are thinking ahead to the next step: document production. What do VCs prefer with respect to the final look and feel of a document? Do they prefer a plain report printed on regular white paper, coil-bound, with a clear plastic cover? Will a document that looks like it cost more to produce get VCs to open it with more interest than one that looks like it was printed on a home office ink-jet?
Accel Partners Posted by emmdubbs on 2008-06-30 PUBLIC: Introduced to Peter Wagner initially. I must say, Peter's legendary reputation is well-deserved. He was extermely astute and grasped the concept and value add of our technology very quickly. In Sik is the technical guy in the room and really knows his stuff. But they asked to keep in touch with potential to do a Series A post the angel round. I have since visited them twice now for updates with good experiences on both occasions.
Sigma Partners Posted by emmdubbs on 2008-06-30 PUBLIC: We were introduced to Bob Davoli who referred us to Roger Krakoff and John Mandile for the on-site pitch. We were too early for them, but it was generally a good experience and they asked us to stay in touch after doing an angel round.
Anonymous on 2008-06-30 PUBLIC: After our first call with Jed Katz, we walked away with a very positive impression. He was interested, had already taken a look at the site and tried to understand our business before speaking to us. He was honest in telling us what he was looking to invest in, and at what stage. Even though we may be too early stage for him, he was incredibly diligent in making introductions the same day.
Anonymous on 2008-06-29 PUBLIC: According to my information, Burda Digital isn't investing in early stage ventures anymore. They have changed their approach and are targeting later stage investments with a minimum investment volume of 5m Euro. I'd be interested in knowing whether that means they are not investing at all anymore (and those larger investments are just general Burda investments), or if they really shifted focus. The former would mean the second important VC player leaving after 3i in Q1 2008.
