Edward M Kennedy will be away from the Senate, but his absence is already having an impact on pending legislation. First elected to the Senate in 1962, Kennedy is an indispensable deal maker and one of the chamber's most skilled legislators. He is also the chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, where legislation will inevitably languish without a Senate giant on hand to negotiate deals. With the 76-year-old Massachusetts senator in the hospital since Saturday, a major labor union bill for public safety workers is on the back burner, a higher education bill has been sidelined and a handful of routine health care bills are on hold.

View Replies To: indcons It's pretty disgusting, but the Death Watch has already begun. I expect someone like Geraldo or Gretta von Crooked-Mouth to delve into the State Funeral plans soon...

Precisely why Government needs to be as small as possible and the Government workforce needs to shrink considerably. Anyone who wants to question whether Obama wishes to increase or decrease the size of Government needs to look no further than his wife's words when she said, "Don't go into corporate America. You know, become teachers, work for the community, be a social worker, be a nurse."
View Replies To: indcons Strange why Ted was never the Dems' Senate Leader. This might be a plus for Hilary's remaining in the Senate. Pushing bigger Government is her first love - might be easier as a Senator - no term limits - she's a lifer there.

On another subject, I always wondered what it was like to have a "compound". Several "compounds" actually, and to have a zillion dollars without ever really working a day in my life. And planes and yachts and chateaus in Vail and God knows where else.

Both of these used-up, burned-out antiques should be made the poster boys for term limits. They, along with Inouye, Stevens, and a few more have outlived their usefulness except for the party hacks that can still roll them out on the floor for votes. Since we'll never see anyone in congress sponsor any term limit legislation, how about I make one last, desperate plea to you voters out there to vote out every single congressman and senator you have an opportunity to vote against, this coming November, regardless of party affiliation. We'd certainly be no worse off than we are now if, come January, we have 535 new faces in DC fresh in the knowledge that a pissed-off electorate is always out there, waiting to pounce on any fool dumb enough to go against the will of the people. Let's really take our government back this time around, top to bottom, and wall to wall.
This guy just oozes arrogance, disdain, and phoniness in every picture of his ugly mug. In cartoon terms, he's the bastard offspring of Richie Rich and Droopy Dog.

View Replies To: indcons No matter how hard I try I simply cannot feel sorry for Teddy. Sooner or later we will meet our Creator and Teddy has a lot to answer for.
View Replies To: indcons Kennedy and Kerry in the Senate - altered their state name to Massoftwoshits. Once Kennedy is no longer there -- what becomes of Massoftwoshits?
View Replies To: Lancey Howard On another subject, I always wondered what it was like to have a "compound". Think "gated community", except that this one is only for relatives.
View Replies To: sodpoodle Pushing bigger Government is her first love - might be easier as a Senator - no term limits - she's a lifer there Perhaps she should've considered the House; In the House, she could've done her time and risen to become the all power-wielding Speaker. In that albeit-theoretical scenario, there is even an outside chance of her becoming President, due to lines of succession.

View Replies To: Sig Sauer P220 The Boston Globe Jr (formerly the Herald) ran a photo of Patches as a likely sucessor. Pardon me for being obtuse but he's a resident of Rhode Island. But in order for him to inherit the Seante seat that is owed the Kennedy Crime Family we can look the other way.
I'm not a Ted Kennedy fan but I hope he beats this disease. Also, why should the TV and Media blast a person's medical situation all over the tube and radio etc? It is HIS/HER own private affair and that of their families. s and other med people be coming onto these silly cable shows to discuss the disease, the outcome etc? Seems invasive, cheap, tawdry and much more just to have a story.
View Replies To: appleton14 You may not like his politics. Neither do I You may not like how he lived his personal life. we will all meet our maker one day and we will ALL have a lot to answer for. have a little more compassion and say a prayer for this man who has one rough road ahead. He is a human being and one of God's children as we all are. What he did on earth he will answer for as will the rest of us. I hope you will soften your thoughts and realize this could be any one of us.
View Replies To: LiberConservative The Boston Herald ran an Editorial calling Kennedy "A Profile in Courage". The Herald has Jumped the Shark and is now rendered useless. Boston is now a One Newspaper Town, which as was evident in his action against Rupert Murdoch was what Ted Kennedy wanted all along.
