What is a good brand to buy? Is HK worth the extra $500 over
American brand 9mm guns? I really like German guns but wonder
why they cost a lot more.

recognizable. You can also load it with birdshot,

drawback is that the long barrel can be difficult to

My first handgun is a Beretta 92FS. I'm going to get the Beretta
PX4 Storm for regular carry (it's about half a pound lighter, and
the barrel is 1" shorter). I hate the feel of Glock, though a
lot of people swear by them. Springfield XD is a good choice as
well. S&W has put out their M&P line, but they're new enough
that they have some of the annoying CA features (mag disconnect).

Law's pretty complicated in California. It varies from
county to county, so even if you can carry it in one
city, you cannot carry it in another city. This pretty
much renders gun ownership useless unless you're willing
to break CA laws from one county to another. Better to
get a taser. Safer, easier.

4-5k rounds through it. I always clean it after a shooting
session. It's a bit heavy for daily carry.

That was before Breault heard an author talk about the bleak future of the world's oil supply. Now, she's preparing for the world as we know it to disappear. She switched to a diet of locally grown foods near her upstate New York home and lost 70 pounds. She sliced up her credit cards, banished her television and swore off plane travel. "I was panic-stricken," the 50-year-old recalled, her voice shaking. Convinced the planet's oil supply is dwindling and the world's economies are heading for a crash, some people around the country are moving onto homesteads, learning to live off their land, conserving fuel and, in some cases, stocking up on guns they expect to use to defend themselves and their supplies from desperate crowds of people who didn't prepare. The exact number of people taking such steps is impossible to determine, but anecdotal evidence suggests that the movement has been gaining momentum in the last few years. These energy survivalists are not leading some sort of green revolution meant to save the planet. Many of them believe it is too late for that, seeing signs in soaring fuel and food prices and a faltering US economy, and are largely focused on saving themselves. Some are doing it quietly, giving few details of their preparations -- afraid that revealing such information as the location of their supplies will endanger themselves and their loved ones. They envision a future in which the nation's cities will be filled with hungry, desperate refugees forced to go looking for food, shelter and water. "There's going to be things that happen when people can't get things that they need for themselves and their families," said Lynn-Marie, who believes cities could see a rise in violence as early as 2012. Lynn-Marie asked to be identified by her first name to protect her homestead in rural western Idaho. Many of these survivalists declined to speak to The Associated Press for similar reasons. These survivalists believe in "peak oil," the idea that world oil production is set to hit a high point and then decline. Scientists who support idea say the amount of oil produced in the world each year has already or will soon begin a downward slide, even amid increased demand. But many scientists say such a scenario will be avoided as other sources of energy come in to fill the void. com Web site, where upward of 800 people gathered on recent evenings, believers engage in a debate about what kind of world awaits. Some members argue there will be no financial crash, but a slow slide into harder times. Some believe the federal government will respond to the loss of energy security with a clampdown on personal freedoms. When things start to fall apart, they expect their children and grandchildren will come back home and help them work the land. She envisions a day when the family may have to decide whether to turn needy people away from their door. "I decided there was nothing like getting the training myself to deal with insurrections, if that's a possibility," said the former executive recruiter. Laskowski is taking steps similar to environmentalists: conserving fuel, consuming less, studying global warming, and relying on local produce and craftsmen. Laskowski is powering his home with solar panels and is raising fish, geese, ducks and sheep. He has planted apple and pear trees and is growing lettuce, spinach and corn. Whenever possible, he uses his bicycle to get into town. "If there is a disruption in the oil supply it will be very quickly elevated into a disaster." Breault said she hopes to someday band together with her neighbors to form a self-sufficient community. Women will always be having babies, she notes, and she imagines her skills as a midwife will always be in demand. For now, she is readying for the more immediate work ahead: There's a root cellar to dig, fruit trees and vegetable plots to plant. Mine is a PX-4 Storm) gun reviews I get bored shooting at only 25 yd targets. Being in AZ one can go out to the desert for an afternoon of plinking quite readily. Anyway, I routinely shoot out to 75+ yds with my pistols for fun. It cuts back recoil to almost 9mm levels and muzzle flip is less than my S&W 659 9mm. Accuracy being key, the PX-4 is the most accurate of my stock pistols. I can easily hit a man sized target consistently at more than 75 yds with 165 flat noses (WalMart Winchesters). Yes, I am aware of inertia bleed-off at that range, but it is still fun and good for one to know what they can do with any given weapon. I\'ve put 700 rds through it and only had two slow feeds. Yet, I am fairly sure this was my fault due to leaving too much oil in the breech. gun reviews The 3 way adjustable grip stocks are nice but the sides of the mag well are still flat. These laws define the various types of dangerous weapons, including firearms, and restrictions and crimes relating to their manufacture, sale, possession and transportation. PC Sections of special interest include 12001 (definitions), 12025 (carrying concealed), 12026 (possession at home/private property), 12031 (carrying loaded), and 12035-36 (firearms storage / access by children). top 3 What is the process for purchasing a firearm in California? All firearms purchases and transfers, including private party transactions and sales at gun shows, must be made through a licensed dealer under the Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) process. California imposes a 10-day waiting period before a firearm can be released to a buyer or transferee. A person must be at least 18 years of age to purchase a rifle or shotgun. To buy a handgun, a person must be at least 21 years of age, and either 1) possess an HSC plus successfully complete a safety demonstration with the handgun being purchased or 2) qualify for an HSC exemption. As part of the DROS process, the buyer must present "clear evidence of identity and age" which is defined as a valid, non-expired California Driver's License or Identification Card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Continued possession of large-capacity magazines (able to accept more than 10 rounds) that you owned in California before January 1, 2000, is not prohibited.
