Emokids Riot police have taken to the streets of several cities in Mexico to ... A series of attacks on dyed-hair, eye-makeup-wearing emo kids began in early March when several hundred people went on an emo-beating rampage in Quertaro, a town of 15 million about 160 miles north of Mexico City. Most recently, a Mexican newspaper reported that metal heads and gangsters have warned Tijuana's emo kids to stay away from the town's fair next month. Last week, they demonstrated against the violence, pictured above, and Wednesday some met with police in Mexico City. personal blog, which has provided stellar coverage of the whole affair. Music-based subcultures have permeated Mexico's major cities for decades, fueled by constant migration from rural cities. But only in the past year have emos begun to make their presence felt in the streets. In response, many of the established so-called tribus urbanas like punks and metalheads are responding with violence. Ask a Mexican and an editor at OC Weekly, said that the sexual ambiguities cultivated by emo fashion helped set the group up for targeting by more macho groups. "What do you do when you are confronted with a question mark about sexuality in Mexico?" government youth-website forum, "detesto a los emosexuales," which translates as "I hate emosexuals." Emosexual is an obvious play on homosexual, especially in Spanish, where the H is silent. Movimiento Anti Emosexual, which features videos of physical violence sprinkled liberally with anti-gay sentiment. fm's Anti Emo Death Squad group has almost 4,000 members. But Arellano said he thought the riots could have a positive impact here in the US. "It's a great clusterfuck for the American mind's idea of Mexico," Arellano said. "This teaches the rest of the world that Mexico is not just a bunch of cactuses and sombreros." Photo: Mexican emo kids gather in response to anti-emo violence by metalheads and punk rockers. Mar 27, 2008 5:07:09 PM @Ed This is actually kind of sad. As much as I make fun of emo kids, I would never actually hurt anyone. But, then again, we will never live in a world without it. Mar 27, 2008 5:46:44 PM So instead of the Battle of Brighton/Second Battle of Hastings, it's the Battle of Quertaro/Second Battle of Chapultepec, and instead of Mods vs. Mar 27, 2008 5:48:58 PM The only reason Emo kids are still alive is because it is a crime to murder them. ALSO can someone please tell me where emo guys put there balls? Emo kids are just another watered down version of things that used to be cool. If they can't defend themselves, or have any form of conviction, then they deserve a beating. Mar 27, 2008 5:53:03 PM i love how squeedle thinks that mexico is AWESOME for attacking emo teens. do you think it should be condoned and institutionalised? since obviously you are more concerned with whether or not Lukos made anyone's feelings get hurt by his anger over the idiots who are doing this. So I guess I must judge the US by what I see in the tv then. So far: a war crazy country who invaded Irak for no reason killing a lot of people. A country full of young people who go around with guns killing others at schools, for no reason since they didn't even know most of the victims. How about being the only ones to throw a nuke at a civilian population of an already defeated country? The thing is, most of the time I end up defending the US from other people's comments (I live in Mexico), why? because I have a lot of friends in the US, I know the real people in there, I know better than judging them because of stupid things others do that get publicized. Good people never make the news, but if the world knew them, as I do, there would be a lot less crazy ones trying to crash planes into buildings just for the kill. Mar 27, 2008 6:03:06 PM Hey Lukos, have you ever been in Mexico? The one of the US who consumes 80% of the illegal drugs produced in the world, with 65% of the population overweight or obese, and with the highest levels of STDs in the world? It is sad because Mexico is the place in the world where americans will get the most simpathy. Strangely mexicans get a lot simpathy all around the world, but a lot less in the US. I know you are just afraid that the Mexicans are going to take your job away. I didn't even know the term "emo" until I read about this. It's certainly not funny, as the bonehead above commented. This whole riot bit is more of a social issue than anything. Mar 27, 2008 6:13:10 PM FIRST, THE AUTHOR GENERALIZED THAT EMOS ARE CALLED "TRIBES" IN MEXICO. HE IS WRONG, HE NEEDS TO TALK TO PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN MEXICO AND GET HIS FACTS STRAIGHT. SECOND, THE "EMOSEXUAL" TERM, I BET IT WAS USED NOT TO IMPLY HATE FOR HOMOSEXUALS, BUT JUST A TERM COINED BY 15 YEAR OLD KIDS. LAST, THE AUTHOR THINKS THERE IS SUCK A BIG HATRED FOR HOMOSEXUALS? I AGREE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO HATE HOMOSEXUALS IN MEXICO, MUCH LIKE IN THE UNITED STATES. MEXICO IS NOT AS CONCERVATIVE AS PEOPLE IN THE US MAY THNK. MEXICO CITY FOR EXAMPLE HAS PASSED A LAW ALLOWING HOMOSEXUALS TO LEGALLY MARRY. SO PLEASE STOP EXAGGERATING AND I URGE THE AUTHOR OF THIS ARTICLE TO RESEARCH FIRST BEFORE GENERALIZING. so they took punk, metal and screaming shit you cant understand, wrote dumb lyrics and said they are authentic and original... converse shoes used to be $9,99(usd) in any Payless store.. why is it these "pop punk" bands killed an entire genere, (punk)... Why is it No Use For A Name, Lagwagon or GG Allin never fucked up an entire public (well.. and yes, in college i make fun of business students too jaja (im a Computer Engineer), i make fun of lots of ppl... I certainly feel that i can do most jobs better than others.. EVERYTHING would be so well done and so easy if it was all controlled by a computer (lets say, Linux, to avoid problems and errors in software). Ppl should really hate us Computer Engineers, our job, is to make a computer take away others jobs right? Its human nature i suppose: Humanity is doomed to self-destruction. They're so dumb that they interpret a joke literally, which isn't that funny to begin with. It's not the joke that's funny (emosexuals=homosexuals), but the predictable and ignorant people who repeat it like the sheep they are. Everything comes down to a silly commentary about sex, genitalia and the like, always, and in every social circle. Mar 27, 2008 7:07:06 PM I say we organize emo riots in every major city... and proceed to convince them their fathers are actually really good guys, despite not getting that xbox. convince them that sniffing cat piss is bad, and that they should stop raining on parties with their fucking emo ways. Mar 27, 2008 7:15:08 PM I think many of the commenters are missing the point of this article. It isn't an indictment on the country (I love Mexico personally) or its society. It is an article about youth on youth violence over philosophical differences. Anyone who has traveled throughout Mexico knows that there are many ethnic groups, social strata and class issues. What is interesting about this article is the 21st century glance at a small segment of young Mexicans and some emerging problems. On the issue of progressive thinking, many people confuse the Roman Catholic church's dogma with the laws and regulations of the Mexican government. Mexico's government is ahead of the US's in many progressive ways; however, like the US, its citizens are not necessarily all on board. Pointing this out, CHINO, is neither a crime nor poor research. Then again, Mexico doesn't allow capital punishment, allows homosexuals to marry and promotes birth control. Personally, I thought the article was great and actually shows that Mexicans are a lot more like us than many people realize. They have kids, issues with social stresses and conflicts and the same problems many other societies have. I also liked the links, which did not diminish the seriousness of the article at all. Mar 27, 2008 7:23:07 PM Oh, Thomas Donnelly, there is no limit to the number of ignoramuses out there. Your comment was wonderful in pointing it out in such a polite way. Please notice that the creeps are always gutless 'nicknamers' who hide their identity. T...
