3/19 The Swiftboating of Obama begins in earnest: http://csua.org/u/l2s (politico.com) Has it really come to this? Again? Are we really going to have a campaign that's a replay of 2004? Are there any adults left? "Idiocracy" is starting to look like prophecy. \_ Oh no! Some one posted a video critical of a politician on youtube! Send him to the gulag! Fairness doctrine! \_ Oh no! Some one might tell the truth about a politician in a hotly contested election! Quick! Smear the opposition! \_ "the truth"... Uhhuh... Are you one of those people holed up waiting for ObamaBinX to launch his racial holy war? RAHOWA! ATTACA! Fuck off. \_ Bad troll! No cookie! Back to your content-free cage! \_ Wow, 38,000 whole views. And I bet 99% of them were all rabid GOP partisans. Yawn. \_ actually, the article we all came from to view it, was critical of it. I expect a large portion of the views are from people who are pro-obama, and the video will change approx. 0 of their minds. It is actually pretty weak, I doubt it will become a big item. \_ A McCain aide was just suspended for pushing it: http://preview.tinyurl.com/3co4w4 [tpm] \_ It what way is that article critical of the YouTube clip? It seemed mildly congratulatory, to me. \_ Yeah, it was pretty poorly done. Of course, the combo of "Just words?" and "God Damn America!" was pretty obvious. |

csua.org/u/l2s -> www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/0308/AntiObama_video_crafted_by_talk_radio_producer.html Obama Anti-Obama video crafted by talk radio producer A YouTube video mash-up that attacks Barack Obama on issues relating to his patriotism that has rocketed around the internet in recent days was created in part by a prominent conservative talk radio producer. "Is Obama Wright" splices together the most inflammatory language of Jeremiah Wright with a series of other issues that have arisen in the campaign, all of which have been fodder for a series of emails that question Obama's loyalty to the country. By early Wednesday evening, it had received over 38,000 and was in the hands of activists and operatives in both parties. The video is listed on YouTube as being produced by a professional-sounding group called "NHaleMedia," but there is no such entity. Rather the incendiary video -- which also includes footage of Malcolm X, the US Olympians who raised their hand in the black power salute and the song "Fight the Power" -- is in part the amateur work of Lee Habeeb. A co-founder and former producer of the Laura Ingraham Show, Habeeb is the director of strategic content at Salem Radio Network, the conservative talk radio powerhouse that airs programs hosted by figures such as Bill Bennett and Hugh Hewitt "I'm trying to join the YouTube generation and have some fun," Habeeb explained when asked in a telphone interview why he created the video. But contacted yesterday morning, Habeeb initially wouldn't admit that he was responsible for the video. Later yesterday afternoon, though, he called back to say he and two friends were behind the video. Habeeb declined to reveal the identity of his co-producers, but did say that they are "conservatives who happen to be in media world" and are not working for any campaign. One, he said, works in film and the other is involved in crafting ads. Habeeb said he had helped put together the video in his spare time and suggested that his employer had no problem with what he was doing. "We're allowed to comment on race because Barack Obama is allowed to comment on race." The video underscores both the danger presented to Obama by Wright's words as well as the opportunities and risks presented in the new media era. Regardless of John McCain's pleas for civility, conservatives will target Obama squarely on matters relating to his race and patriotism. And now, after months of being relegated to dark whispers, Wright's words have given them their first real opportunity to thrust these issues into the center of the campaign. Further, because of YouTube, the internet and email, a figure like Habeeb, operating out of his home studio in Oxford, Mississippi, can create a home-made attack video that is seen by thousands and spread virally. It's a pattern that will almost certainly continue hould Obama get the nomination and a challenge his campaign is already grappling with. They created email rebuttals explaining his Christian faith and pride in America last year and had Obama craft his own YouTube video denouncing Wright's comments last week. Asked directly if he believes Obama is a patriotic American, Habeeb said "absolutely." But he added that "his patriotism is not my kind of patriotism." "I believe he is hiding his Marxism from the American people," Habeeb said. And despite the inclusion of Malcolm X, the black Olympians and a rap song by Public Enemy, Habeeb claimed he was not being suggestive. By continuing to splice his voice, it might confuse the uninformed. If they took two minutes and simply gave a visual of Barack's preacher's rants superimposed by his own words of "hope" I think it would be more powerful. abuse icon REPORT ABUSE I haven't seen this video, but I am sure that McCain or McCain's people had nothing to do with it. It is worth mentioning that Laura Ingraham was/is a rabid McCian hater. abuse icon REPORT ABUSE phil mels -- you say "It is worth mentioning that Laura Ingraham was/is a rabid McCian hater." Why is that worth mentioning, since she has nothing to do with this story? In fact, I recall Laura specifically state on Fox News that while she much preferred Romney (when it was down to McCain or Romney), she would support the nominee, whoever it turned out to be. abuse icon REPORT ABUSE maybe you are correct IBot, I thought there was a close association with Ingraham and Habeeb. I am just concerned that some on the right might overshoot the significance of the Wright issue and therefore allow democrats to pin the whole thing as some phantom right wing conspiracy. I think the Wright video speaks for itself, and attempts to accentuate its significance are unnecessary and can backfire. abuse icon REPORT ABUSE phil mels -- I guess I don't think this video "mash-up" is over the top (although the stylized repetition of Obama's words is annoying). And I don't think you have to worry that the Wright stuff is going to be overplayed. My prediction (made last week on this blog) was that Obama was going to make an emotional speech, after which the MSM would lay off. So far, that seems to be the direction things are going. abuse icon REPORT ABUSE Chuck- It's sad that there are racial lines- In the end we are 1 big family- All brothers and sisters- I don't understand why Rev Wright is so angry. One Youtube blathering and Martin thinks he has a poison pill against the Pubs. I wonder Jon boy, if you ever analysed all the Hitlarian lingo, the smears, the hate of Moveon, Kos, and Media Matters that the Lefty loons put out against Bush, Mitt, Christians and Conservatives? abuse icon REPORT ABUSE Its a powerfull video, no doubt. The image of him not putting his hand over his heart is disturbing. I still would like to to se a black man of his intelligence become President. It will be interesting to see his Militan wife become Lady like for the first time. Regardless of how he feels today i se him as a practical man with good intentions and not a hater, just young, but as a leader of this country he may be able to forge a new and safer and healthier direction for this Nation. abuse icon REPORT ABUSE Chuck the AA, you are an oxymoron! How can you be bothered by this when you were willing to vote for a man, Huckabee, who said, "You don't want anyone from out of state comin' down and telling you what to do with your flag. In fact, if somebody came to Arkansas and told us what to do with our flag we'd tell them where to put the pole." You are just like the Juan William's and Lee Elder's of the world: Uncle Tom and a Buffon. It is people like you that Hannity, Limbaugh, and Levin use to do their dirty work. abuse icon REPORT ABUSE This represents ignorance and the attempt to continue it. Get over it racists, bigots, and idiots who want to distract voters from the real issues of today. abuse icon REPORT ABUSE Obama's candidacy is going to bring a lot of poison to the surface. Republicans and reactionaries have been playing with racism for four decades now; abuse icon REPORT ABUSE I don't know why Senator would want to put his family in harms way when there are a bunch of racist who hate him! Did you ever think he stayed in the Church for twenty years to effect change in a inner city Black community without hope. abuse icon REPORT ABUSE ILUVRomney, Obama's been nailed about this (rightly, of course). Romney and his wacky cult of Morons have never been held to account. imagine if "God's living prophet" whatever his name is told him how to run this country. abuse icon REPORT ABUSE All of these comments pro or con Obama, and all the tapes in the world mean zilch. Barack Obama and his America hating wife have done themselves in. and the talk and actions of radical Black racists like the idiot accosting a Fox News reporter at the meeting of progessive radical America haters in Washington are doing all the work necessary to destroy Obama that is needed. This guy Obama has set Black Americans back fifty years. Mr Barack is dropping like a weighted stone in all political polls. America should, and must remember that not all American Blacks support this fraud of a man and his distain for America and the majority of American people, including millions of loyal, dedicated Black Americans. preview.tinyurl.com/3co4w4 -> tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/03/mccain_aide_actively_pushed_ra.php video that uses the controversial words of Barack Obama's pastor to tar Obama as unpatriotic -- despite the fact that McCain himself has suggested that Obama shouldn't be held accountable for Wright's views. The aide, Soren Dayton, who works in McCain's political department, has been suspended from the campaign, a McCain spokesperson, Jill Hazelbaker, confimed to me. video itself is thoroughly reprehensible -- it interweaves footage of Obama explaining why he won't wear the American flag pin, Wright saying "God damn America," Malcolm X, and Obama's wife saying that his candidacy has made her proud of America for the "first time." That McCain's campaign aide spread this runs directly counter to what McCain himself has said about the Wright controversy. recent interview that Obama shouldn't be held liable for his pastor's views, and a top aide to McCain, Charlie Black, also recently suggested that McCain didn't believe in trafficking in such stuff. Dayton described the video as a "good video on Obama and Wright." The link he provided leads to the Wright mash-up video on Youtube. A short time later the post was abruptly removed from his site, and an hour or so later, after I asked the McCain campaign for comment , Dayton's whole account was deleted. A top McCain adviser, Charlie Black, explicitly said recently that McCain didn't think Obama should be held accountable for Wright's views. McCain wants to get in the middle of a discussion about Sen. He believes that people who endorse you, people who befriend you are entitled to their own views, but you are not held personally accountable." Asked for comment, McCain spokesperson Hazelbaker emailed me the following: "We have been very clear on the type of campaign we intend to run and this staffer acted in violation of our policy. He has been reprimanded by campaign leadership and suspended from the campaign." Permalink avatar One of the reasons that I will be voting for McCain if Obama gets the nomination is that McCain comes off better on race-baiting than does Obama who has been making phony charges of racism from the beginning of his campaign. Your judgment is questionable if you think McCain is better than Obama. I guess you'd be comfortable with a Supreme Court that will undoubtedly be even more conservative? With a Commander in Chief who seems incapable of correctly identifying the main groups shuttling back and forth between Iran and Iraq? And if Clinton gets the nomination, why should anyone listen to what you have to say about why Obama supporters should vote for her, when you yourself feel McCain is the better leader? Permalink avatar I couldn't agree more, though I am mystified why he wasn't fired. Especially compared to Samantha Power losing her job for simply using the word "monster." But like another reader, don't understand why someone like this individual - who wants to instigate anger in the US - was not fired. Kind of like Sawn Hannity should be fired for doing what he did yesterday about the false Black Panther thing. I have been making comments on blogs for weeks now about the fact that while Obama is being "vetted" as Hillary likes to often say, for some reason the press is allowing stories about Clinton and McCain connections to just fade away at such a critical time. One example would be the $17M lawsuit that was filed against the Clintons re: campaign fraud and will be going to trial very soon. I strongly believe that so much has to get out there before Pennsylvania - so that we do not have a repeat of Ohio where the voters trusted Hillary and voted for her. Today, we see the factual information about her strong support of Nafta. If "vetting" is happening with Obama - then it is unfair that the other candidates are not having to answer up to a lot of uncovered issues. Hey fluffy, Will you always practice the politics of old and bash Hillary when Hillary is not even involved? And here I had the audacity to hope that Obama supporters would practice what Obama preaches. The Clintons have re-introduced race-baiting into the campaign I guess the media hasn't noticed First, there was the picture of Obama in a Somali costume That was from the Clintons Then, there was PA Gov. Ed Rendell who jsut happened to say many people wouldn't vote for a black man. Or was she asked to keep the controversy alive For a week or two Now, Rev Wright's videos appera Where did THEY come from ? Does anyone remember Bob Novack saying the Clintons told him they had SOMETHING on Obama ? These aren't coincidences They aren't accidents' They are planned, choreographed race-baiting' by the Clinton campaign Charming, isn't it ? Now, Bill is complaining he was mugged' about race in SC It's NOT the Republicans who are guilty of race baiting It's NOT John McCain ...... It's the Clintons It's planned It's calculated It's cold-blooded, unethical and soulless Is there any depths that they won't sink to ? Is THAT the politician you want in the White House for the next four years ? Can you possibly support a candidate/candidates who sunk this low ? I find McCain's comments on this matter (and Huckabee's too) to be thoughtful, intelligent and honorable. Three words I can't use to describe the comments of the majority of Clinton supports on here. Permalink avatar Yeah, she doesn't come off very well either, stoking the fire. Although McCain's safe to take the high road with the Clinton campaign doing the dirty work on this one, I guess. Hey Harpo, Will you always practice the politics of old when bashing what is approximately %50 of the Democratic electorate to date? And here I had the audacity to hope that Obama supporters would practice what Obama preaches. When some of the Republicans are behaving with more class than this "50% of the Democratic electorate" you reference, then yeah, I'm going to "bash" them. My audacious hope is for Hillary's supporters to show at least half the class of John McCain and Mike Huckabee? But like another reader, don't understand why someone like this individual - who wants to instigate anger in the US - was not fired. Kind of like Sawn Hannity should be fired for doing what he did yesterday about the false Black Panther thing. Permalink avatar Dear Old Bag, Ya know - When I realized that I had first replied to the wrong person, I took the chance of sending my "dribble" to the correct person. I wanted to post an apology, but didn't want to take up a third post. Might I suggest that you spend your time reading about the upcoming Clinton trial or one of the many HILLARY LIED ABOUT NAFTA articles online today. The move by McCain's aide could create controversy for the McCain camp, because the video itself is thoroughly reprehensible You're joking, right? This isn't going to create controversy for McCain--this is gold. As many other people have already commented, it's like Bill Shaheen apologizing for mentioning Obama's drug use... The slime gets spread, the campaign gets the glory for being "principled". Permalink avatar Of course the video will get out there. Look no further then this thread which provides the link while calling it reprehensible. Same as Penn with his cocaine references while denying his actions. Does anyone honestly believe that Sargent could not have written this up without providing the link and thereby promoting distribution of the 'thoroughly reprehensible' video?
