Obama might have tried something like this earlier but lately he's started taking his messianism ansd movement way too seriously. Reply I am offended that a candidate for the POTUS got as far as he did, even after publicly stating that he wanted to change the constitution to be in line with "god's law". Imagine the religious schisms and intolerance that would result from our country suddenly being forced to base all its laws on the bible! HINT: take a look at how divided the Protestant world has become over minor doctrinal issues, or the civil warfare in Ireland, or the instability in the muslim world. Reply I'm offended that science is being vocally denigrated by people who don't understand it, that some will lie outright about its findings, and that they waste taxpayer money in ongoing and repeated lawsuits by manipulating local School Boards to build student curricula that have misleading and inaccurate statements about science, all because they think that the damn bible is to be read literally even (or especially) where it conflicts with what we know through science. Reply I am simply making a statement in regards to someone spamming a video post. Also, I am very aware that using-insert words-is not proper. I WAS not aware that men was the proper use UNTIL I read that posting. News Flash: Other presidential candidates have done exactly what Huckabee did last night. It may not have been on SNL but they have done it before. Last night's skit, while comical, was not as revolutionary as some seem to think. containing 75 whereas clauses of revisionist history to support a claim that this is a "Christian nation" while ignoring the facts of our history where religion brought out the worst in people- eg the protestant vs. catholic conflicts between kids that were the basis of the court case that outlawed bible study in public schools. Our government BY LAW is supposed to remain neutral wrt religion. Reply It's clear you don't understand what people are offended by. I'll give personal examples: I am offended that a president was elected by obnoxiously narrow margins twice because the religious right produced an over-representative voter turnout based on moral panic issues. I am offended that Bush's faith-based initiative intentionally and unfairly takes Federal money away from equivalent secular social programs in favor of programs that have a religious basis. |
