11/23 John Howard loses not only the national election, but his own seat.
        Another Bush lapdog goes down.
\_ Kevin Rudd: We're pulling out of Iraq, and we're signing the
           Kyoto Treaty. Smackdown!
\_ You people with Bush Derangement Syndrome are funny! Everyone is
           Bush's lapdog.
\- funny-but-not-really was the "coalition of the willing".
[c.f. Costa Rica, Palau, Tonga]. if you hate minke whales
[the "rats of the sea"], this is actually kinda funny:
"Pro-whaling Mali and Mongolia have consistently
voted with Japan in the IWC in its campaign to
                 resume whale hunting. [http://tinyurl.com/2ekq52]

BTW, JHOWARD also took flack for a number of "conservative"
ideas in domestic/econ policies, not just "war on terror"
              issues. --!OP
\_ Cf. Aussie immigration policy, Pauline Hansen (better us
than her lot, eh?), Fiji, Indonesia, and the rapid
deterioration of Aussie cricket and rugby. Good on yer,
                 John!
\_ Not as funny as people with Clinton Derangement Syndrome.
\_ Sorry, but it's at least twice as funny as CDS because of the
self-contradictory nature of BDS. Bush is simultaneously a
bumbling fool and a genius criminal mastermind/manipulator?
At least CDS is consistent - Clinton let crap happen because
he was too busy chasing booty/food?
\_ I am pretty consistently of the "bush is a bumbling
fool who has fucked up the entire world" kind of guy
                    myself.
fool who has messed up the entire world" school
                    of thought, myself
\_ You mean he killed Vince Foster and gave nuclear secrets
to the Chinese by accident while chasing booty?
\_ According to people with CDS, Hilary was behind these.
                       \_ http://www.csua.org/u/k2j (NewsMax, I know...)
"How did the Chinese catch up so fast? Easy. We sold
them all the technology they needed . or handed it
over for free. Neither neglect nor carelessness is
to blame. Bill Clinton did it on purpose."
\_ A fool in a position of power can still reward his friends.
Or commit crimes. Or spend money, or initiate wars.
\_ But only a genius master manipulator can get away with
                       it.
\_ It is not clear that he got away with it.
\_ Bush is the greatest Republican President ever! Better than
Reagan! Better than Lincoln! We will build shrines in his
honor, put his face on Mt. Rushmore and the Two Dollar Bill!
              http://www.csua.org/u/ify (Mission Accomplished!)
\_ You mean the 2/3 of America that doesn't like Bush, as opposed
to you 30% that still think he is swell? Do you really think
that 2/3 of America is deranged?
\_ Disliking != derangement. See, it's the deranged that say that
a second-longest-in-power PM getting ousted is "another Bush
                 lapdog" going down. -op
\- Bush Derangement Syndrome? perhaps. i do hope that he lives
long enough to be tried for his role in Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo,
and the kidnapping, "extraordinary rendition", and torture of
people around the world (who sometimes turn out to be innocent).
but what i hate are Bush's policies. it doesn't really matter
whether he's the evil mastermind behind the policies or a
cretinous sock puppet with Dick Cheney's hand shoved up his ass
making his mouth move (though i tend to suspect the latter).
regardless, i'm delighted when supporters of his policies get
              voted out of office.
\_ You're seriously deluded if you believe he'll ever be tried
for so much as a traffic violation much less anything else
on your list. Most of your list is post 9/11 but do you
know that extraordinary rendition was a Clinton era policy?
Yes, Bush continued it but his administration sure as hell
didn't come up with the idea. Should Clinton be tried for
that? If you don't think so or you have some other
rationalization then you suffer from BDS. There is no cure.
\_ Heh, have you known psb long?
\_ Yes but there's always hope.
\- what does this have to do with me?
the only thing i wrote in theis thread was the
minke whale comment above. i'm not holding my breath
but i could see something like what happened to
                          pinochet happening to bush/rumsfeld/cheney ...
bush should be around for a while. --psb
\_ Bill Clinton should be indicted for the murder of Ed Willey,

Willey, Vince Foster and Ron Brown.
\_ Maybe but first the cases should be properly
                       investigated. I know the first 2 weren't. I don't
                       know the RB details.

com%2Fsearch David @ Tokyo Perspective from Japan on whaling and whale meat, a spot of gourmet news, and monthly updates of whale meat stockpile statistics 6/19/2006 IWC 2006: Landlocked anti-whaling nations The news is getting out about vote influencing at the IWC. This from Reuters: FRIGATE BAY, St Kitts and Nevis, June 18 (Reuters) - Mali's natural resources do not include whales, yet the dusty, landlocked, sub-Saharan country has a vote in the International Whaling Commission, which is fighting this week over whether the giant mammals may be hunted. The inclusion of landlocked nations like Mali and Mongolia in the IWC has fueled accusations that pro-whaling Japan has been using foreign aid to persuade friendly countries to join and help it try to overturn a 1986 ban on commercial whaling. But the growing ranks of the world whaling body, which started in 1946 with 15 members and now has 70, is not due to pro-whaling nations alone. "There are more landlocked countries against whaling than in favor of whaling," said Rune Frovik, secretary of the High North Alliance, a Norwegian pro-whaling lobby group. "By our count, there are six of theirs, two of ours," Frovik said at the commission's annual meeting in the Caribbean island state of St Kitts and Nevis, which ends on Tuesday. Pro-whaling Mali and Mongolia have consistently voted with Japan in the IWC in its campaign to resume whale hunting. On the other side, Austria, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Switzerland and tiny San Marino oppose Japan and its allies at every turn. "Whales aren't the property of coastal states," said Patrick Ramage of the International Fund for Animal Welfare, defending the role of anti-whaling nations. "They're a global resource that have special status under international law." There is little common ground between conservation groups, which want all whales protected, and pro-whaling nations which believe that some whale species are no longer endangered and can be hunted in a sustainable way. Heri Coulibaly, Mali's representative at the IWC, said his country was a signatory to many international conventions and had a right and a duty to play a part in global affairs. Pavla Hycova, the Czech Republic's representative at the IWC, said her country was invited to join by anti-whaling nations, including the United States and Germany. The invitation coincided with increasing public pressure on her government to help protect the Earth's largest creatures. As debate becomes more heated, the Czech vote and voice had become more important, she said. Caribbean island states, which have become a powerful block of support for Japan, angrily reject claims that their votes had been bought in eschange for Japanese funding for fish processing plants and other infrastructure. Such accusations sprung out of colonial and racist attitudes, said Edwin Snagg, the IWC commissioner for St Vincent and the Grenadines. "Because you are small and because you are undeveloped there is this view and there is this feeling that you can easily be bought and you can easily be sold.

www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,2073945,00.html
The Guardian An unlikely grouping of the British government, naturalist Sir David Attenborough and Lord Ashcroft, the former Conservative Party treasurer, has emerged to try to stop Japan and its allies from overturning the international ban on whaling. British ministers have signed up Croatia, Slovenia, Cyprus and Greece to join an anti-whaling coalition at the International Whaling Commission's annual conference, which begins today in Anchorage, Alaska. Two more anti-whaling nations, Costa Rica and Peru, have also been persuaded by Britain to pay their membership dues to allow them to vote. Advertisement The initiative potentially tips the balance against Japanese diplomacy aimed at lifting the 25-year-old moratorium on commercial whaling. Japan is seeking to reverse resolutions to protect whales, to weaken conservation measures and to encourage the trade in whale products. To the horror of more than 150 international anti-whaling groups, pro-whaling countries led by Japan gained a simple majority of votes at the IWC meeting last year, but not the 75% required to guarantee a return to commercial whaling. Britain and its allies are now making a concerted attempt to reverse even last year's simple majority. Japan has been accused of using multi-million-dollar fishing aid packages to swing the IWC. All three countries, which were not members of the IWC before, voted with Japan at the conference. Britain's efforts to win the voting maths are being helped by Lord Ashcroft, a major donor to and treasurer of the Conservative party from 1998 to 2001, who has commissioned a television advertising campaign voiced by the newsreader Sir Trevor McDonald which he hopes will persuade six small Caribbean countries to switch sides and oppose Japan at the meeting. The environment minister Ben Bradshaw said: "We hope our diplomacy will be enough but we won't actually know until the meeting starts. You do not know exactly who will turn up at the IWC meetings. The Japanese government, which intends to kill 50 endangered humpback whales and nearly 1,000 others for "scientific" purposes in the Antarctic whale sanctuary this year, is expected to respond to Britain's diplomatic push by trying to persuade other countries to join the IWC. Yesterday the British government repeated allegations that Japan bribed small countries with aid money. They are clearly linked to whaling votes," said Mr Bradshaw. Japan strongly denied using aid money to influence whaling votes, arguing that it was one of the largest aid givers in the world and supported these countries for other reasons. However, critics point out that many of the commission's newest members have no history of whaling and several, including Mongolia and Mali, have no coastlines. It has been estimated that Japan has given more than $750m in fisheries aid to what are now pro-whaling countries in the last 12 years. Lord Ashcroft, who has business links with Belize, a whaling country in central America, is trying to win over Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts, St Lucia, and St Vincent. Last year they received nearly $300m from Japan, much of it in the form of fisheries aid. Earlier this year, Japan invited all 72 IWC members to Tokyo to prepare the organisation for a return to commercial whaling and trade. It is believed that it paid for most of its 21 small-country allies to attend. Some 26 anti-whaling countries, including the UK, New Zealand, Australia, the US and Argentina, boycotted the meeting, which was not sanctioned by the IWC. Part of Britain's diplomatic push has been a brochure produced by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs with a foreword by Sir David Attenborough and Tony Blair. It was sent earlier this year to 60 countries which are not members of the whaling commission but which British diplomats had identified as possible waverers. It is understood there was concerted lobbying of new EU countries and Turkey, which is eager to join the EU and has long been supported by Britain. Collective action by nations across the globe is needed to protect whales for future generations," Sir David wrote in the brochure. You could call it a fishing trip," said a British diplomat yesterday. But it has been a serious play to get governments to concentrate their minds on whales as a global resource. "The Japanese will undoubtedly have had a meeting to get their troops in order before the Alaska meeting. some new recruits but they normally appear only at the last minute." Hunters and hunted The IWC allows "aboriginal whaling" when there is an unbroken tradition, and only for subsistence purposes: Greenland (Denmark) Inuit whalers kill around 170 whales a year US Nine indigenous communities in Alaska can take around 50 bowhead whales a year Russia Communities in Russia's far east can take up to 140 gray whales Canada Left IWC in 1982. No figures for 2007 available Japan In 2005-06 Japan's whalers killed 853 minke and 10 fin whales from the Antarctic. This year it will start hunting 50 humpback whales Norway Quota of 1,052 minke whales set for 2007 whaling season Iceland Icelandic whalers no longer bound by IWC but can hunt 30 minke whales and nine fin whales in 2007 Caribbean Communities in Grenada, Dominica, St Lucia and St Vincent hunt 400 short-finned pilot whales and a few humpback whales a year Indonesia Two Indonesian communities still hunt whales. Faroes (Denmark) Around 950 long-finned pilot whales killed annually.

Statin Drugs Linked to Cancer The Idiot's Guide to Chinagate Richard Poe Tuesday, May 27, 2003 China will likely replace the USA as world leader, said Bill Clinton in a recent Washington Post interview. He has personally done more to build Chinas military strength than any man on earth. Most Americans have heard of the so-called "Chinagate" scandal. Web sites such as "Chinagate for Dummies" and its companion "More Chinagate for Dummies" offer some assistance. Unfortunately, with a combined total of nearly 8,000 words, these two sites like so many others of the genre offer more detail than most of us "dummies" can absorb. For that reason, in the 600 words left in this column, I will try to craft my own "Idiots Guide to Chinagate," dedicated to all those busy folks like you and me whose attention span tends to peter out after about 750 words. When Bill Clinton took office in 1993, China presented no threat to the United States. Chinese missiles "couldnt hit the side of a barn," notes Timothy W Maier of Insight magazine. Few could reach North America and those that made it would likely miss their targets. Thanks to Bill Clinton, China can now hit any city in the USA, using state-of-the-art solid-fueled missiles with dead-accurate, computerized guidance systems and multiple warheads. These enable China to strike by proxy equipping nuclear-armed terrorists to do its dirty work while the Chinese play innocent. Some intelligence sources claim that China maintains secret stockpiles of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons on US soil, for just such contingencies. In 1997, Clinton allowed China to take over the Panama Canal. The Chinese company Hutchison Whampoa leased the ports of Cristobal and Balboa, on the east and west openings of the canal, respectively, thus controlling access both ways. A public outcry stopped Clinton in 1998 from leasing California's Long Beach Naval Yard to the Chinese firm COSCO. Even so, China can now strike US targets easily from its bases in Panama, Vancouver and the Bahamas. We sold them all the technology they needed or handed it over for free. As a globalist, Clinton promotes "multipolarity" the doctrine that no country (such as the USA) should be allowed to gain decisive advantage over others. To this end, Clinton appointed anti-nuclear activist Hazel O'Leary to head the Department of Energy. O'Leary set to work "leveling the playing field," as she put it, by giving away our nuclear secrets. She declassified 11 million pages of data on US nuclear weapons and loosened up security at weapons labs. Federal investigators later concluded that China made off with the "crown jewels" of our nuclear weapons research under Clintons open-door policy probably including design specifications for suitcase nukes. Meanwhile, Clinton and his corporate cronies raked in millions. In his book "The China Threat," Washington Times correspondent Bill Gertz describes how the system worked. Defense contractors eager to sell technology to China poured millions of dollars into Clinton's campaign. Janet Reno and other counterintelligence officials stood down while Lockheed Martin, Hughes Electronics, Loral Space & Communications and other US companies helped China modernize its nuclear strike force. We want to see him re-elected," former Chinese intelligence chief Gen. Indeed, Chinese intelligence organized a massive covert operation aimed at tilting the 1996 election Clinton's way. Clinton's top campaign contributors for 1992 were Chinese agents; his top donors in 1996 were US defense contractors selling missile technology to China. Clinton recieved funding directly from known or suspected Chinese intelligence agents, among them James and Mochtar Riady, who own the Indonesian Lippo Group; Commerce Secretary Ron Brown served as Clinton's front man in many Chinagate deals. When investigators began probing Brown's Lippo Group and Chinagate connections, Brown died suddenly in a suspicious April 1996 plane crash. Needless to say, China does not share Clinton's enthusiasm for globalism or multipolarity.

The Pacific Ocean, May 1, 2003 -- President George W Bush passes through the side boys after landing aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) in "NAVY 1", an S-3B Viking from the "Blue Wolves" of Sea Control Squadron Three Five (VS-35). The custom of having side boys originated centuries ago in the Royal Navy when officers were hoisted aboard in a sort of basket, and since senior officers usually weighed more than juniors, more boys were needed on the line. When the side is piped by the boatswain's mate of the watch, from two to eight side boys, depending on the rank of the officer, will form a passageway at the gangway.
