jpg Wiesmann is confirmed to present its new GT MF 5 coupe at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show, the first major update for the model since its introduction almost two years ago. Despite its retro styling, there's nothing old fashioned about the car's new powerplant. Residing under its long hood will be the same 507hp (373kW) V10 found in the potent M5 and M6 models from BMW Weighing just 1,250kg, a Wiesmann GT packing the 50L V10 engine would offer a significant leap in performance compared with the 362hp (270kW) currently available. Expect performance to better the current car's 0-100km/h time of 46 seconds and top speed of 280km/h. Production of the car hasn't started as yet as testing is still being finalized. Early reports suggest the car will arrive in dealerships by the middle of next year. The new model will also be differentiated from the standard models with several subtle stylistic changes.
jpg The Wiesmann GT has been on sale for almost two years now and in that time there have been very little changes to the car's specifications. The GT has always been powered by a BMW-sourced 48L V8 engine but now rumor has it there are plans to launch a model powered by the 50L V10 from BMW's M performance division. We could even see the new super-GT as early as next month's Frankfurt Motor Show. Weighing just 1,250kg, a Wiesmann GT packing the 507hp (373kW) V10 engine would offer a significant leap in performance when compared with the 362hp (270kW) currently available. Expect performance to better the current car's 0-100km/h time of 46 seconds and top speed of 280km/h. Much of the GT's internals are already sourced from BMW, although there are some unique elements such as the aluminum suspension and body structure as well as the carbon-fiber panels. If given the green light, we think Wiesmann may just outdo TVR as the maker of the world's craziest cars.
jpg A prototype for a future sports car has spun out of control and crashed out on Germany's speed unlimited Autobahn. Police claim that the vehicle cost a cool $250,000 but weren't willing to release details about which manufacturer it came from.
Policed said the car was going extremely fast when it clipped a center barrier and then swerved, hitting a truck before entering a spin. The test-driver managed to step out of the wreck without any injuries but will have to ask his bosses to cover the damage bills for two other vehicles. Update: We managed to find more info on this crash and it looks like it was a Wiesmann Coupe.
jpg Weismann is bringing its uniquely retro styled cars to America by 2010 and expects to boost sales dramatically. Weismann only sold 100 cars last year, and wait-times for the cars are up to 18 months long, but with the move overseas they're expecting to triple their sales and reduce lengthy wait times on new models. This is fantastic news for admirers of Weismann, who manufacture cars that have presence and character, and aren't your typical Ferrari or Porsche deal. Wiesmann's current focus is the GT, which is powered by a 48L BMW V8 and promises a more refined experience over previous models. But the best news may be confirmation that Weismann cars are built to take all BMW engines, including the V10 from the M5 or even a V12.
