Clinton lied, people died Michael Isikoff, the reporter who broke the Monica Lewinsky story only to have his editors at Newsweek spike the story, has caught Bill Clinton in another lie: He never authorized the killing of Osama bin Laden. Citing a recent CIA inspector general report, Isikoff and Mark Hosenball reported: The report also criticized intelligence problems when Bill Clinton was president, detailing political and legal "constraints" agency officials felt in the late 1990s. In September 2006, during a famous encounter with Fox News anchor Wallace, Clinton erupted in anger and waived his finger when asked about whether his administration had done enough to get bin Laden. I got closer to killing him than anybody has gotten since." Clinton appeared to have been referring to a December 1999 Memorandum of Notification (MON) he signed that authorized the CIA to use lethal force to capture, not kill, bin Laden. But the inspector general's report made it clear that the agency never viewed the order as a license to "kill" bin Laden--one reason it never mounted more effective operations against him. "The restrictions in the authorities given the CIA with respect to bin Laden, while arguably, although ambiguously, relaxed for a period of time in late 1998 and early 1999, limited the range of permissible operations," the report stated. "None of those authorities ever allowed us to kill anyone. The blame for that rests solely with the multi-millionaire, pampered son of a Saudi construction magnate -- Osama bin Laden -- and the minions he hired. The entire United States went to sleep after the Berlin Wall fell. Our intelligence community had a meltdown in the 1990s while our military was mothballed. Clinton's tepid response to the first attack on the WTC in 1993 -- which was clearly sponsored by Saddam Hussein -- as well as Clinton's no response to the USS Cole showed the nation's pacifism in the face of a deadly enemy. And George W Bush ran as the America First, no nation-building candidate.
August 23rd, 2007 at 10:46 am Better practicing ducking and covering Don. You don't pull on Superman's cape, spit in the wind, or for darn sure allege Clinton did anything wrong during his 8 years of peace and prosperity.
August 23rd, 2007 at 11:21 am Not to beat a dead horse but Wiki - (which we all knows has issues) disagrees with you. They point the finger at Khaled Shaikh Mohammed, who I thought was a member of bin Laden's organization. BTW you are rapidly becoming one of my very favorite blogs.
here's some discussion of Saddam's potential links to the first attempt on WTC -- an article just a few months before 9/11. Sure, it's a bit speculative, but Saddam boasted about financing terrorist Palestinian suicide bombers in Israel. He was offering their families cash prizes for their sacrifice, and even imported Palestinian refugees to Iraq, giving them homes and incomes. It's not for nothing that even the Clinton administration eventually came to a tougher conclusion about Iraq and similar nations, giving them the "Rogue States" designation.

August 23rd, 2007 at 12:31 pm The Lawyers are willing to let Americans die to support their view of CYA needs. typo alert: "meltdown in the 1990s will our military was mothballed."
August 23rd, 2007 at 12:50 pm Not only were Iraqi fingerprints all over the 1993 WTC bombing, but there is a decent circumstantial case for Iraqi responsibility/participation in the Murrah Building bombing in Oklahoma City.
August 23rd, 2007 at 1:15 pm In any case, the inspector general found that the CIA's failure to conduct effective covert actions against bin Laden prior to 9/11 was ultimately not because of ambiguous legal authorities but because it did not have effective assets on the ground who could mount a "credible operation" against him. I could swear that I have seen video of CIA Predators circling a compund where they thought OBL was and marking the "Tall guy in robes" as OBL That means we could not send in a cpature team because we didnt have assets on the ground but we could have sent a B52 with 80 500lb GPs or a tomahawk.
August 23rd, 2007 at 1:21 pm Two comments: 1) Most of us were asleep on our feet through the 1990's. The party was too much fun to shut down due to any serious matters that needed to be addressed.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:11 pm Re: Finger waving This gesture from Bill Clinton seems to function somewhat like a polygraph needle moving off the charts. I seem to recall similar finger pointing and gesticulation to accompany the former president's denial that he ever ".
August 23rd, 2007 at 5:35 pm The democratic party is infested with lying traitors whp put their party before their country. The best that can be said for them is that some of them may be delusional enough to actually believe that what is good for Democrats is automatically good for America. That doesn't amke them less dangerous, just more pathetic.

I'm sure I didn't see a word of this on the 6:30 news shows. Bill Clinton wouldn't know the truth if it sodomized him. Yet, we're told that all the polls show that Clinton II is all but assured the presidency. If the polls prove accurate, doesn't this say something about 40% of Voting America?
Indeed, Clinton never gave the CIA an assassination order on bin Laden. Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball have the whole story. Don Surber points out, Michael Isikoff, the reporter who broke the Monica Lewinsky story only to have his editors at Newsweek spike the story, has caught Bill Clinton in another lie: He never authorized the killing of Osama bin Laden.
