the Conquistador): They had to cancel a meeting yesterday because everyone was so distracted about Ed. Daly): Has apparently been calling for Jew to resign for weeks;
After the jump, a collection of links and some tidbits about Ed Jew (including some of the ones folks are asking about in the comments). We totally did not realize Kamala Harris had hired Jew as an advisor in her DA campaign!
the city's options for getting rid of Ed -- Newsom can ask Jew to resign for "official misconduct" at any time, and if Jew's convicted, he's required to step down under the City Charter. However, if Jew leaves office before July 10, we have to have a special election in November for whoever gets appointed to the seat. If Jew leaves after July 10, Newsom's appointee can serve out the rest of Jew's term.
Matier and Ross detail the DA's investigation, and note that both the Board of Supes and the Ethics Commission can force Jew out of office, if the matter's referred to them by Newsom.
rss I still find it amusing that Ed Jew surrendered in Burlingame at 7PM. Hmmm, having dinner in Burlingame or chowing on something at your home in the Sunset? Would surrendering in Burlingame be an admission of guilt that he does not reside in the Sunset or just cause another spin around the news media?
June 13, 2007 10:00 AM Fiona Ma called this Burlingame thing back in 2002, when Jew ran for the District 4 seat the first time. Are there any other supervisors that don't live in their district?
June 13, 2007 10:01 AM "I shower every hour with a different kind of flower" - EJ. Yes, Ed Jew's surrendering to police in Burlingame last night would certainly help him in digging his own political grave. Who does he think he is, Paris Hilton, Barry Bonds or George Bush? This sort of "rules don't apply to me" mentality is disgusting. Ed Jew should change his political affilication back to Republican and go work for the Bush crime family (when he finishes serving his time for the nine or so felonies).
June 13, 2007 10:18 AM Thank GOD for "IRV" or "RCV" or whatever the weird kids are calling it now. That way we could "avoid" the pain and cost of a "runoff" election, only now to have the pain and cost of another election to replace the guy who really only got 25% or so of the vote on election day. yeah, yeah, I know people marked him as their "second choice." That means they still didn't think he was up to the job as a first choice.
Perhaps these undisputed facts qualify as misconduct: Supervisor Jew told three different stories about the Burlingame address; claims that he moved into the Sunset address in July but listed that address as his residence in February when filing election papers; improperly gave himself loans in both of his campaigns for supervisor; did, in fact, take a bag of money from business owners trying to get compliant with Proposition G; despite being given an extension, has still failed to turn over basic documents like his 2006 tax forms to the City Attorney; Peskin pointed out, has offered NO explanation for any of this mess.
June 13, 2007 12:52 PM Campers, Harris has a conflict of interest that should have precluded her becoming involved in this case. During her '03 campaign, Ed was a paid consultant to her campaign (3k of so).
If T-Ed is removed B4 then, a special election will have to be held, and the Gav will not be able to appoint his own someone to fill the vacancy. I hope the new person can prove s/he lives in the Sunset, or is at least smart enough to take a shower at home every now and then. They must also swear not to visit any tapioca shops until they leave office.
June 13, 2007 1:43 PM Why are people taking dumps on IRV/RCV? Yeah, you avoid a runoff, and you get your 2nd choice if your first choice didn't win. I love how people are using this as a way to spin against district elections and RCV/IRV. Maybe you can all make it to Newsom's next fake question time and beat up the chicken suit people too! By giving people ranked choice voting, we empower voters.
