weak-kneed moderates that have turned against America.

Today's Must Read By Paul Kiel - April 6, 2007, 8:53 AM For Vice President Cheney's lies and distortions to be exposed is common. But it's a rare satisfaction for them to be thrown back in his face on the same day. remember Abu Musab al Zarqawi, a Jordanian terrorist, al Qaeda affiliate; ran a training camp in Afghanistan for al Qaeda, then migrated -- after we went into Afghanistan and shut him down there, he went to Baghdad, took up residence there before we ever launched into Iraq; organized the al Qaeda operations inside Iraq before we even arrived on the scene, and then, of course, led the charge for Iraq until we killed him last June.... Now, as with nearly every Cheney statement, this is about three distortions rolled into one big lie. prior to the 2003 invasion, he was in the northern Kurdish portion of Iraq, outside of Saddam Hussein's control, not Baghdad; and there's no evidence of collusion between Zarqawi and Hussein. tasked with finding a link between Iraq and Al Qaeda in the runup to the war. And the report shows that not only did the Intelligence Community speak with one voice before the war that there was no evidence of a significant relationship between Iraq and Al Qaeda, but they were right. I mean New York Sun care in its endorsement of this turkey for president? Posted by: Hmmmmmm Date: April 6, 2007 09:01 AM "Oh, the humiliation!" He's off in his own alternate universe and just visiting down here where the rest of us live. He'll bend any truth and twist every lie until he gets what he wants, which is as far removed from democracy and checks and balances as you can get. Posted by: SteinL Date: April 6, 2007 09:03 AM Unfortunately this lie wasn't thrown back in Cheney's face -- it was thrown in our faces instead. WaPo needs to have pointed out that what they are reporting contradicts what Cheney is still saying. Posted by: NedBalzer Date: April 6, 2007 09:07 AM and the true-belieiving kool-aid mustached 23% will continue to eat up every last piece of corn cheney defecates on their plates for them. Posted by: zk0sm0 Date: April 6, 2007 09:08 AM The guy's pathologically incapable of admitting a mistake. I challenge JMM or the commenters--find me ANYTHING that shows Cheney apologizing and/or admitting to a false statement or ascertation. Posted by: Punchy Date: April 6, 2007 09:09 AM I guess you guys have a winner for that "Find the Most Outrageous Cheney Quote" contest you announced a couple of weeks ago. Cautious Man Date: April 6, 2007 09:13 AM Us little people are just too dumb to handle these complicated things. Dick knows what's best -- let him fix everything for us. Posted by: Sagrilarus Date: April 6, 2007 09:14 AM Cheney does not have the guts to die trying. Posted by: vox clamantis in red state Date: April 6, 2007 09:20 AM I don't know what's worse, that Cheney lies without a conscience or that 20% of the population still actually believes him. Posted by: Rich Date: April 6, 2007 09:23 AM So, when exactly does the media start pointing out that Cheney's comments are at odds with reality? I don't think it's reasonable to expect that the casual newspaper reader is going through recently declassified documents, and then comparing those documents' findings to the Vice-President's statements. Really, shouldn't the press be giving people all the relevant facts in a news story? That when Cheney says something contrary to fact, that they give their readers the actual facts? He'll still be on Wolf Blitzer's show spouting off more lies, and no one will call him on it - again and again. Code: "good," as in "Cheney is not" Posted by: Legalize Date: April 6, 2007 09:40 AM Please do not forget the audience that Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rove, Gonzales, et. "Adults in the bottom 5% of the IQ distribution (below 75) are very difficult to train and are not competitive for any occupation on the basis of ability. Serious problems in training low-IQ military recruits during World War II led Congress to ban enlistment from the lowest 10% (below 80) of the population, and no civilian occupation in modern economies routinely recruits its workers from that below-80 range. Ergo, those sub-normal neo-con Bushies are not only unfit to fight in their own illegal & immoral wars, but they want- they desperately want to believe what are obviously lies, deceptions & falsehoods. Rice is a shallow clothes horse-cum-corporate-owned-lap-dog... For until they are impeached, we might as well prepare ourselves for more of the same- the same nauseating neo-orwellian Bu**sh**! Posted by: Gadfly Date: April 6, 2007 09:40 AM Fascinating ... like a film of a train wreck that repeats itself over and over, with more detail and destruction every time. We all know where Cheney works (when he's willing to disclose his location), but what about Feith? Isn't he out in the world somewhere, misleading the next generation of policymakers? "Cheney reaserts Al qaida Hussein link", "Cheney sticking to his guns". These headlines by now should be screaming "Surprise Cheney lies again about al qaida Hussein ties" "Cheney is a LIAR" (I could think of much stronger language here but it wouldn't be headline worthy with the msm) He's lying and no one in the media is calling his falsehoods what they really are. neck as in I'd like to wring the corporate owned media's neck for failing to report the truth here. Posted by: my too sense Date: April 6, 2007 09:44 AM Just try talking out of one side of your mouth, like cheney. See if it doesn't involve a kind of snarly, lying nastiness! Posted by: TheraP Date: April 6, 2007 09:44 AM Cheny is an incorrigible, determined liar who does it for the propaganda value, for his own purposes and he will not be disciplined. Posted by: Plutodog Date: April 6, 2007 09:54 AM Not "a prime chance to kill Zarqawi"--*three* prime chances to kill Zarqawi. Code word: salt, as in that (of the earth) which Cheney is not. The trashing of Pelosi, the veneration of Cheney, show what we can expect in the 2008 election. Posted by: budfox Date: April 6, 2007 09:59 AM As some "journalists" have been known to say, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. Posted by: GeorgetteOrwell Date: April 6, 2007 09:59 AM This is as close as the WaPo gets to face-flinging: "Zarqawi, whom Cheney depicted yesterday as an agent of al-Qaeda in Iraq before the war, was not then an al-Qaeda member but was the leader of an unaffiliated terrorist group who occasionally associated with al-Qaeda adherents, according to several intelligence analysts. He publicly allied himself with al-Qaeda in early 2004, after the US invasion." Posted by: DougAdams Date: April 6, 2007 10:04 AM I keep asking myself, does Cheney really believe this stuff? Or, is he so diabolical that he keeps saying the same things despite facts to the contrary - just to fan the flames in the hearts of some last true believers? dc Posted by: davcbr Date: April 6, 2007 10:07 AM Cheney told a bald faced, premeditated, calculated lie in his debate with John Edwards on television. Every time they post his name, then his title, they should throw in the fact that he's a well documented liar. Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to introduce to you, Vice President and proven and widely known Liar, Dick Cheney. Dick Cheney was a liar four years ago, and four years before that and he'll be a liar four years from now. News reports should be including this information with every piece and every mention of Dick Cheney, noted liar. Posted by: Tim Date: April 6, 2007 10:09 AM Cheney is nothing but one of the more extreme voices of the right's propaganda machine. Every time he says something, he knows it's going to get coverage, and while someone else may be debunking it, the refutation usually gets less coverage than the lie. We should not be surprised or outraged that he continues to lie. That's his job and whether he believes it or not is immaterial. The only thing that matters is that increasing numbers of people understand what he's doing. Posted by: beep52 Date: April 6, 2007 10:15 AM Not only is Cheney a liar, he is a traitor, pure and simple. Posted by: George Date: April 6, 2007 10:15 AM They know they can lie with impuni...
