Photos | orange snow Yesterday a strange phenomena happened in Omsk region Russia. Pretty vast territory of Omsk region was covered with a snow that had an unusual color. Now we have a few photos, mainly screenshots from Russian TV channels. There is still no one exact explanation about the origin of orange color of this snow. orange snow, russia More high quality photos of the Martian like snowy terrain would follow shortly. According to Russian officials the orange snow doesn't contain any chemical byproducts or any other elements dangerous to human. Do you know that many European cars cannot be sold here - our emissions standards are higher than in Europe! As well, we've done more than most countries to reduce emissions, so piss off. Its just another way for the UN to get money from advanced countries. Why do you think there are very few diesel cars here and no 2 cycle cars at all. But they are all over the EU, so who's standards are tougher? BTW, I have nothing against former soveit block countries or the EU countries. in fact, the worlds most efficient combustion engine is a diesel made by volkswagen. also, please note: "Diesel engines can increase fuel efficiency by 20 to 40 percent over comparable gas engines, especially in popular sport-utility vehicles and light-trucks, which now make up over half of all new sales. Diesel's inherent efficiency helps reduce dependence on foreign oil. According to the US Department of Energy, a 30 percent market penetration of diesel vehicles by 2020 would reduce US net crude oil consumption by 350,000 barrels per day." in regards to soviet countries, you are correct in that former soviet countries are probably the most polluted - however, check your facts on pollution gross output and per capita: the USA ouputs 5,762,050 units of CO2, with China outputting 3,473,600 and Russia 1,540,360 units per annum. the USA per capita polluted 20 units of CO2, with Luxembourg and Australia at 17 units. the USA also creates the most nuclear waste, at 2,100 gross units per annum, with Canada second at 1,340 units. Suprisingly within the nuclear energy field, Canada leads in per capita waste generation, with the USA at number 8 on the list. its not a debate erin, it's just getting the facts straight. a debate is when you discuss something of a subjective matter. if someone says the USA are lesser polluters because they dont burn as much diesel, you are wrong, and it is factual. if you say russia is a bigger polluter than the usa, clearly as per the facts above, you are also wrong. call it a debate if you want, but it would be a really short and boring one. anyway, i'm from neither country, i'm just trying to set things straight. An SR71 blackbird will break any diesel endurance record, but uses fuel about 40 times quicker than a 747. You can travel further on a tank of diesel, but the outputs, even after the EuroIV scheme, are more harmful to people. China uses twice the fossil fuels (coal and gas) as the USA, with nuclear energy being better on the environment, Secondly, China's population make about a 15th of the US's wage per capita, therefore, and is already only a 9th less polluting, imagine when China's employment increases? Its all too easy to blame the biggest superpower, but at least look at all the facts, and think about the future. you are correct, diesels do create more harmful emissions. not sure where you got the china stat from, considering the US pollute more CO2 and output more nuclear waste than china. but you are correct about the concerns over china's employment. if every chinese person becomes as big a consumer as the americans, well, the fight for environmental protection is utterly futile. the statistic still stands that the US contain 5% of the worlds population, yet consume one third of the worlds resources. "Diesels set endurance records, but produce more carcinogens" "As for the auto emissions. Why do you think there are very few diesel cars here and no 2 cycle cars at all. They wont pass the emissions standards" Both werner and gizmo are ignorant. They're confusing the means of combusting a fuel with the fuel itself. Please learn about low-sulphur diesel fuel, biodiesel, and other various diesel fuels. The entire reason European diesel engines don't pass emissions has nothing to do with what either stated. The diesel sold in the US is notoriously dirty - and that is the entire reason why. Get your facts straight before pulling bullshit out of your ass. These posts are just proof that ignorant flamers live all over the world. Interesting Article + People who have nothing to contribute = waste of brain power If only a person's IQ was queryable via the web to allow for intelligent filtration... The world is jealous of America because it's the only country that's truly free. Tony Blair said it right, "You can take measure of a nation by how many people want in, and how many people want out." I don't see many people wanting to leave the US but everyone wants in. God bless America We Europeans don't hate all Americans, but you must accept that your country is full of ignorant bastards. And that stupid voters somehow decide the fate of the world. If you want to do something good to world, you need work hard to get rid of ignorance and arrogance dominating your nation. i am from america and this proves to me that all around the world there are stupid people. EU dont ever say shit about america until you guys can get your own military and defend yourself. just let it alone and stop trying to act like you mean something. A wierd article about a goofy occurence, turns into a ignorant european blamming america for all the worlds problems which is a tend of europeans these days, than turns into an ignorant american wasting his time looking up fact on pollution just to prove some drunken fin wrong, which turns it to a sissy bitch giving dictionary definitions to prove its not a debate... It seems like all of these fucking things end up like this.. People talking about whose country is to blame and whose country is better... can everyone who participated please just take a second and laugh at themselves, than talk about the fucking orange snow.. I'm american, and one of my best friends is German, he came here thinking all american's were war hungry and fat and ignorant, and now he loves our group, admits that theres more kids who work out in america and are fit, he admits that only some american's are war hungry, and he KNOWs alot of us arent ignorant. It's a great example of stereotyping and how people need to lay off of other cultures and countries. There are a few things I would like to clarify with all of you on the people and government of the United States. We oppose the war in Iraq and have almost no support for our President any longer. Of course, we do hold some of the blame for voting him in again, but that is besides the point. I drive my father's Subaru Outback that gets rather good gas mileage. Although, I do not deny that many US citizens, do, in fact, drive these monstrosities, a lot of us try to conserve as many natural resources as possible. I do not deny that a lot of the world's resources are used every day by the people of the US. A lot of money for that matter, even though many US citizens, including myself, are pushing for new, cleaner, fuels to be made such as, for example, Hydrogen Fuel Cells. It is a common misconception by saying the whole of the US is fat lazy, aggressive "cowboys" if you will. There is a big difference between "America" and the "United States of America". All in all, America is made up of two continents, and one sub-continent. These include: North America, South America, and Central America. The United States, is a country, like Canada and Mexico. In conclusion, all you people who try and say all citizens of the United States are evil, corrupt, fat, and lazy are all being ignorant of the actual state of my great nation. I am not trying to start a fight by listing these things, but only only trying to make a point. Did you ever see a chart on how much the world contributes to pollution? Americans are the number ONE providers of pollution in the world. ...

Promotions 'Putrid' orange snow falls in Siberia By Adrian Blomfield in Moscow Last Updated: 12:34am GMT 04/02/2007 When Frank Zappa penned the hit single "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow" back in 1974, his words were meant as a warning to Eskimos to avoid the spots "where the huskies go." Yesterday Russian authorities were forced to repeat the American singer song-writer's advice for altogether different reasons after putrid smelling yellow, green and orange snow fell across a substantial swathe of Siberia. The bizarre phenomenon caused consternation across the affected regions of Omsk and Tomsk, where government officials told locals to stay indoors, tie up their pets and avoid either consuming the snow or using it "for household or technical needs." "The snow is oily to the touch and has a pronounced rotten smell," Anton German, an environmental official in Omsk was quoted as saying by the ITAR-Tass news agency. advertisement Samples of the snow were flown to Moscow by the department for especially hazardous rescue operations, prompting rumours of a significant environmental disaster. The emergency situations ministry initially said the most likely cause of the snow was "waste from metallurgical plants" but later backtracked, blaming the phenomenon - which covered an area the size of greater London - on a sandstorm in Kazakhstan. "Preliminary results of the tests revealed the presence of sand and clay dust particles, which caused the unusual colour," the ministry said in a statement. It said toxicity levels were normal, although other officials said iron and nitrogen levels were four times higher than usual. In Norilsk, a closed city just outside the Arctic Circle that is home to the world's largest nickel and palladium producer, the snow is often black. According to the Blacksmith Institute, a New York based environmental watchdog, three of the world's most polluted places -- including Norilsk -- are in Russia.
