11/02 R's go apeshit on Kerry, Dem polling gets even better:
        http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2006_11/009984.php
\_ it's probably the "i remember the last time i had a choice between
the student-body president (kerry) and the asshole-in-chief (dubya)"
effect, or maybe people realize now a 1-party govt fucking sucks
effect, or maybe people realize now a 1-party govt isn't working
\_ No one likes the snobby student body president types. And
no one likes Kerry. Not even the motd usuals bother trying to
defend him in any real way. W may be the aic, but Kerry is still
an elitist holier-than-thou prick. As far as 1-party governments
go, you could swap any number of R for any number of D in
Congress and you'd still have a 1-party government. It's all
just bread n circuses. They pork the budget, pork their pages,
pork their interns, and pork their wallets full of cash after
they finally leave office and become 'consultants' for the next
              round of pigs.
\_ You got my point exactly: No one likes the asshole-in-chief
or the student-body president, but people are remembering
the last time they had a choice, which was my point.
What, did you think I dredged up "student-body president" as
                 a neutral or pro-kerry phrase? c'mon.
As for 1-part govt, I'd agree that an all-Dem govt may be
a suspect as an all-GOP govt, but I feel that having one
heading executive and one heading legislative is less worse
                 than one controlling both.
\_ Would it really be so crazy to have a no-party government?
I think parties have outlived their usefulness and do far
                    more harm than good.

today's final poll before the election pretty interesting. The poll was finished on Wednesday, and despite the ongoing John Kerry flap (which "clearly broke through," they say) it shows an increase in Democratic strength compared to a poll taken last Sunday. As the chart below shows, in 50 competitive House districts Democrats gained strength in every category, from most competitive (Tier 1) to least competitive (Tier 3). Unless they're way, way off base, virtually every trend is not just in favor of Democrats, but getting even more favorable in the final weeks. If Osama can keep his mouth shut, Dems may end up with a historic victory. made clear what his intent was, which was to challenge the policy we have on the ground in Iraq, which I think is widely believed to be not working in many quarters. I said early this morning, matter of fact, late last night, that he should apologize to the troops, whatever his intent was. He said it was a "joke," and even in this latest statement. FORD: Look, we forgive Rush Limbaugh for what he did to Michael J Fox. This is about -- he's running -- what is the "joke" part? Before he apologized, though, he used the word -- he says it's a joke. FORD: You'd have to have him on and ask him all of that. You know, when Vice President Cheney mistakenly shot his friend while they were out hunting, he said he was sorry and didn't mean to do it. If John Kerry says that it was an awful attempt at a joke, I mean, I take him at his word. Here we are, while all these kids are at war, while we all agree -- even the president of the United States has changed his rhetorical description of this war from "stay the course" to "whatever the case may be." I keep telling people, we are not our parents democratic party, we are more like our Grandparents Democratic Party. PERMALINK Funny thing is, I think Rove et al have done the Democratic party a huge favor by prolonging their attacks on Kerry. Not only do people find it irrelevant to Tuesday's election, I believe, but more importantly, I DO think they have damaged Kerry for a future run in 2008. And that's GREAT news for Democrats, cuz Kerry is NOT a winning candidate, period. PERMALINK The GOP and its de-closeted Gay problem just grows and grows as well. My red state mother and siblings have definitely moved over to the left. The whole Christian Evangelical movement is taking a hard look at its weird leadership today. Colorado and the West were just rocked by the Ted Haggard debale. He has stepped down and even Dobson is under heavy pressure now. Talk about time for new leadership, 2006 is looking very important in the history of our nation. PERMALINK Kevin, you seem to be reflexively assuming that Democrats' chances would be hurt because of the Republican attacks on Kerry. On the contrary, I suspect many people were nauseated as well as puzzled by the laser-focus that the GOP shone on a very trivial issue, one which no one cares about. PERMALINK If Osama can keep his mouth shut, Dems may end up with a historic victory. The GOP goes apeshit over Kerry, and it actually increases Dem support. Same thing with Allen's attempt to smear Webb - it seemed to cost him votes. It seems like now everything that happens just confirms people's inclination to turn away from the Ranting, Shrieking Party. If Osama turns up in this atmosphere, I wouldn't be surprised if that were the icing on the cake, and the GOP losses become truly epic. PERMALINK As that great Republican Abraham Lincoln said, you can fool all of the people some of the time, and perhaps this time enough of the gullible American public will be fooled by liberals and their lies. But we live in a republic, not a democracy, and the Founding Fathers, in their wisdom, designed enough checks and balances to ensure that liberals will always be thwarted. Even if Americans vote liberal this time, the Constitution is there to ensure that liberal schemes will always fail. There is still a lot of treachery that the GOP can undertake between now and next Tuesday, and believe me, the Dirty Tricks Party will pull out all the stops. The best thing Democrats and any intelligent, concerned voters can do is to get everyone you know that can vote and is still able to fog a mirror, to the polls next Tuesday and exercise the most important right that we Americans have. PERMALINK Al: That's what we liberals said about the US Constitution before Bush decided to use it as a replacement roll of toilet paper in the West Wing. Olbermann's smackdown of Bush over the Kerry flap was ... PERMALINK If Osama can keep his mouth shut, Dems may end up with a historic victory. A tacit admission that Osama is interested in seeing the Democrats win. Thanks for the intellectual honesty Kevin, regardless of how accidental it was. If Osama 'keeps his mouth shut', as you say, that's final proof that he prefers Democrat policies. PERMALINK This Kerry thing reminds me of the old Far Side cartoon. The Republicans have this whole spiel about what Kerry said and how awful it is and the voters are hearing "mumble mumble IRAQ mumble IRAQ mumble mumble mumble IRAQ." It would be just as valid for us to assume that bin Laden is taking his orders from Bush, and Bush has requested he keep his mouth shut this go-round to stanch the bleeding. PERMALINK The Republicans will get a boost when Saddam's verdict is announced on November 5 The announcement will probably occur just in time to make all the Sunday talk shows and will be the big story for the full Monday news cycle. No doubt the talking points are already distributed for the last minute blitz. It won't save the House, but it will let the Republicans keep the Senate. Posted by: bruce on November 2, 2006 at 6:50 PM | PERMALINK Spot on. PERMALINK At this point the Republicans can't afford to convict Saddam. There are already people like Ralph Peters who are coming ever closer to the idea that we need Saddam back in power in order to restore order in Iraq. If he agrees to be "our guy", maybe Bush can cut a deal with him. PERMALINK The poll was finished on Wednesday, and despite the ongoing John Kerry flap (which "clearly broke through," they say) it shows an increase in Democratic strength compared to a poll taken last Sunday. As I said all along, this is a loser for the GOP, and I hope to hell they are unable to resist their base instincts and keeping flogging this to death. Thank gawd the voters have finally had enough of incompetent jerks. PERMALINK "If Osama 'keeps his mouth shut', as you say, that's final proof that he prefers Democrat policies." so basically you're agreeing that Osama *not* keeping his mouth shut in 2004 was "final proof" that he really, really wanted George W Bush to stay in power. PERMALINK "If Osama 'keeps his mouth shut', as you say, that's final proof that he prefers Democrat policies." And of course, if Osama speaks up, the ChickenShitHawk will have to think of yet more intellectual gymnastics to explain how black is white. Course, his lack of intelligence can only help in this regard, since logic is not necessary in the manufacture of bullshit. PERMALINK Kerry is an example of what too much time in the senate can do to you. No wonder that for the past 20 years all the Presidents have been ex-governors or ex vice-presidents. By the way it's good to see a bit more optimism among the regulars here. PERMALINK "The Republicans will get a boost when Saddam's verdict is announced on November 5" I don't see how. Putting Iraq - the one issue that is completely radioactive to all Republicans - front and center for the last two days of the election cycle simply can not help them in any way. If the verdict somehow comes back Not Guilty it becomes a Republican Hiroshima. PERMALINK If the verdict somehow comes back Not Guilty . Posted by: chaboard on N...
