Email This Article (10-12) 14:04 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- An athletic-clothing store in San Francisco's Bayview district was set ablaze early today, hours after the proprietor allegedly shot a suspected shoplifter in the back after she had left the store. The 1:30 am fire at Pop Ya Collar, on Third Street near Oakdale Avenue, was probably started by a Molotov cocktail thrown through a window, police and fire officials said. The blaze did $25,000 damage to the store's contents and $50,000 to the structure, fire officials said. No one was injured in the fire, and no arrests have been made. Mindy Talmadge said authorities were investigating the possibility that the arson was a response to the shooting Wednesday that resulted in the arrest of Haggag Mohsin, who was working as a clerk in the family-owned store. Mohsin, 21, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after shooting a 41-year-old San Francisco woman, police said. Mohsin told investigators that he believed the victim, whose name was not released, was among two women and three men he suspected of shoplifting several pairs of shoes about 12:50 pm Wednesday, said Sgt. Mohsin pursued the group out of the store and saw the two women in a car, Mannina said. "He went behind his counter, grabbed a gun and fired multiple shots," the sergeant said. "One went through the windshield and hit one of the women." The car was parked but appeared to be about to leave, Mohsin told police. The wounded woman drove several blocks before police pulled the car over for weaving. The woman was shot in the back and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, Mannina said. Her condition was not available, but police said her wound was not life-threatening. His older brother, Adnan Mohsin, 27, said Haggag Mohsin had gotten a gun after the store was robbed Aug. Adnan Mohsin met with arson investigators outside the store today but did want to discuss Wednesday's shooting.
