Informacin del Programa de Intercambio de Batera Toshiba Toshiba Battery Exchange Program Information Introduction Toshiba has identified a problem with some of the batteries in Toshiba portable computers manufactured between March and May of 2006. The affected batteries simply stop working, ie they stop accepting a charge, and they no longer supply power to the computer. They do not overheat, or pose any safety related issue or concern. The affected batteries were sold with several Toshiba portable computer models, and were also sold as accessories. The problem has been fixed by the third-party battery vendor, and batteries manufactured since June 1, 2006 are not affected by this problem. Toshiba is offering to replace affected batteries with new batteries, free of charge. This offer extends to affected batteries only - those that are known to have this problem. Toshiba will replace affected batteries whether or not they have actually failed, with the intention that as few customers as possible will ever experience the problem. Since the problem is confined to the battery itself, and is not related to the computer that uses the battery, this exchange program is only for replacement of affected batteries, not the computers that include those batteries. Affected Batteries in Toshiba Portable Computers The affected batteries were included in certain of the following Toshiba portable computer models. Only some - not all - of the batteries used in these models are affected. Satellite A100/A105 Tecra A6 Satellite M50/M55 Tecra A7 Satellite M100/M105 Batteries included with other models of Toshiba portables computers are not affected by this problem, and are not eligible for exchange under this program. Affected Batteries Sold Separately as Accessories Some - not all - of the Toshiba accessory batteries with the following three battery model numbers are affected by the problem: PA3399U-2BRS PA3400U-1BRS PA3465U-1BRS Other Toshiba accessory batteries are not affected by this problem, and are not eligible for exchange under this program. Stop Here if You Do Not Have a Matching Computer or Accessory Battery Model If your computer is not among the models listed above, and if you do not have one of the accessory batteries listed above, then please ignore the remainder of this document and any other material regarding the Toshiba Battery Exchange Program. If you have a matching computer or accessory battery model, the remainder of this document will explain how to positively determine whether or not you actually have an affected battery, eligible for free replacement by Toshiba. Battery identification If you own one or more of the Toshiba computer models, or one or more of the accessory batteries listed above, then please determine whether or not the batteries are actually among those affected by the problem described above. By far the easiest and most accurate way to make this determination is with Toshiba's BatteryCheck utility software. The BatteryCheck utility software will identify whether or not the battery in a Toshiba portable computer is affected by the problem described above. If it finds an affected battery, it will launch your web browser and automatically fill in a form on the Toshiba Support website with notebook and battery identification information. You will be asked to add your shipping information and submit the no-charge replacement order. The BatteryCheck utility software is very small, so it may be downloaded very quickly.
Manual Battery Identification document to visually determine whether or not you have an affected battery, and to then obtain the Battery Number and Battery Serial Number. This manual method requires that you remove the battery from the computer, and then visually match identification numbers on the battery's identification label with those listed in the Manual Battery Identification document. Use of the downloadable utility is the preferred and recommended method to perform battery identification.
