Huge batteries and aggressive battery mgmt still don't give 4MB-shared-
cache Core 2 Duo (Merom) based notebooks equal or better battery
life over Core Duo (Yonah) - both 65nm.
Need info on: 2MB-cache Core 2 Duo battery life and performance.

Mobile Core2 Duo: Performance at a Cost In an ideal world, laptops would consume almost no power, even at full throttle. It's not an ideal world, however, and CPU designers need to make tradeoffs. Rather than test battery life--which will vary substantially from one system to the next--we removed the battery and connected the system directly to an Extech 380803 power analyzer. This meant, of course, that we were plugged into wall power, so the CPU was running at full clock rates. We left the display on and the hard drive spinning during all power usage tests. The difference in power usage is almost entirely attributable to the difference in processor power draw. Note that this is a data point for a single CPU, but we doubt that either of our processor samples were outliers on the bell curve. We ran Prime95 in torture test mode, small data set, so we didn't exercise memory much. Power Usage At idle, Merom uses about 8% more power than our T2600 Dothan sample--that's about the clock rate difference. AT full bore, the T7600 draws about 23% more than the older Intel CPU. So the top bin of Intel's mobile Core2 Duo can pull a lot of power running full out, when connected to wall power. It's likely that the top bin T2700 also draws more power than the T2600, so the actual difference between the two top bin CPUs is probably smaller than between the T2600 and T7600. Again, this was a power test when the system was connected to A/C power. Of course, when disconnected from wall power, you'll get the full benefit of Merom's aggressive power management. PC Magazine ran extensive battery life tests in its Core2 Duo system reviews, so be sure to check those out for actual battery life numbers.
