8/1 Where is the mac desktop going to go? It seems all the development
in sw/hw now is for the iphone, imac. 2 finger Gestures won't work
on the desktop. What happened to the xserve line?
\_ Two finger gestures DO work on the desktop. Have you used a new
Apple laptop lately...they support up to 5 finger gestures.
\_ you're making my point even harder, do the 5 finger gestures

10/26 I'm considering upgrading from a 14" 1.33 GHz iBook G4 to a 2 GHz
white MacBook. How much hotter will the MacBook be? And, is now a
good time to buy a MacBook, or are there kinks that will be worked
        out in the next version?
\_ With Apple just releasing new MBP with Merom CPUs, Macbook update
may or may not be far away, so if you can wait, I'd suggest waiting

10/6 I love Macintosh, I've had a G4 and other Apple related products
but I've returned my MacBook Pro v.1 for the following reasons:
        - 7 pounds!!!
        - When idling on single proc, it is very hot
        - When idling on single proc, it only runs 1.5 hour. Slightly more
when the LCD is turned off for the entire 1.6 hour

9/28 What do you guys think the average lifespan of a laptop is these
days? It doesn't matter the reason for a new machine, I'm just
wondering approximately how soon should I'll need to get a new
laptop if I bought one last year. Thanks Comrades.

9/25 Urgent help. I have a MacBook Pro and compared to the predecessor
G4 it is a total piece of shit and I regret getting it. At any
rate, I upgraded from itunes 6 to itunes 7, and now itunes 7
crashes every 5 minutes. I deleted it and tried to install itunes 6
again, but now the itunes 6 GUI keeps saying "Custom Install

2/28 So this new Intel Mac Mini... didn't the old one have better
        graphics and also cost less?
\_ I think Apple is overcharging for it, since the new model is $100
more from the last base priced model. As components go down in
price, so should the unit, or the specs should go up with a flat
price. However, keep in mind you do get 256MB more ram ($75),

1/15 I've got a mac G4 laptop and a dell box that I want to play kernel
hacker with, but I don't want to keep a bulky monitor around. Is
it possible to get a terminal connection from the dell box to the
laptop? The dell has USB, serial, PS/2, and VGA (no firewire).
        Any suggestions appreciate, thanks.

So what happened to all those "G4 chips kick intel butt" folks?
        \_ 2 generations of cpus
\_ They are also introducing a Intel iMac. Does that mean the
G5 will be phase out? What I really want is a Intel MacMini.

11/21 I've noticed that the OS X Terminal.app and xterm etc are all
slower than xterm / rxvt on Linux/x86. Even a 500 MHz P2 has
quicker response than a 1.33 Ghz G4 when you are logged
into a server via SSH. I'm wondering what could be the cause
of this lag. Is it something that can be adjusted? I find the
sluggishness the only think holding me back from using a Mac

Also, does this pave the groundwork for porting OS X to all PC

\_ You know, you guys are trying to find good technical reasons
