8/8 One quarter of the religion of peace in England says it's okay to blow
people up in subways and busses.
        http://csua.org/u/gn5
\_ All the bombings of public transportation are clearly the work of
           the oil industry.
\_ and 1/4 of adult americans think the sun revolves around the
           earth.
     http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2004_11/005208.php
link dead but I've seen the pdf in the past.
           http://www.nsf.gov/statistics/seind02/append/c7/at07-10.pdf
\_ So? Does that mean they think it's okay to kill random people?
\_ That doc has all sorts of fun. Like more high school dropouts
know that smoking causes lung cancer and can explain what a
molecule is than high school graduates.
\_ 47% of Americans believe God created man in his present form within
           the past 10,000 years.
\_ Hey, nice little red herring. I like how with an appeal to the
anti-Christian knee-jerkers you managed to equate a wide spread
belief among British Muslims that blowing up innocent civilians
is good the same as Americans believing in God's creation of the
world. Because, as we all know, all religious beliefs are
equally evil, except for Xtians are who much worse of course.
You earned the troll of the week award and an A+ for this one!
\_ 47% of Americans are fucking stupid. Why are more people
in America religious than in Europe? I was talking to a guy
at work who was saying I should be ashamed of myself for
not believing in god and that I'm going to go to hell and
that I'm arrogant for not considering Jesus and the bible.
I mean he's right that I'm arrogant about it, but why can't
he see that he's similarly arrogant (possibly not as much as
              me actually)?
\_ Not true. They think they _know_ GOD? They think we
measly humans share form with GOD? Who do you think
                 is more arrogant?
\_ The *average* American is dumber and less educated than the
average citizen of any other industrialized nation. What
saves us is that the smartest Americans are smarter than the
smartest citizens of any other nation (because they move
here.) Of course if nativist republican fucks have their way,
that will no longer be true, and America will fall within
                 a decade.
\_ that, and stem-cell research ban AND "intelligent Design"
in public education... AND allowing swarm of illegal
immigrants to overflood our public school system :D
\_ obviously you did "consider" Jesus and the bible...
                 I "consider" it mythology.
\_ Some I consider my girlfriend, and some I just consider.
                    Like yer mom.
\_ So? Does that mean they think it's okay to kill random people?
\_ "Mr Blair declared: 'I am not the person to go into the Muslim
community and explain to them that this extreme view is not the true
face of Islam." Dude. The "true face of Islam" isn't what you want
it to be, it's reflected in how people actually practice it. And
they practice it by repressing women and demanding death for
           apostasy.
\_ what the fuck? You should go to Malaysia, Indonesia, Qatar, even
Iran and check it out yourself. In case of Iran, there are more
women in their Assembly than US congress :D
\_ The Daily also says: (http://www.csua.org/u/gn6
"Britain's most senior Asian policeman yesterday warned that ......"
           "The Ugandan-born police chief, 51, ......"

\_ Does anyone have a reference to a poll taken in England that
supposedly showed that a MAJORITY of Muslims in England would
like to impose Sharia law on the entire country? I've heard it
said but never saw the story to back it up ...
\_ Sadly, the poll question is never given verbatim. The same poll
also shows 50% of respondents saying 9/11 was an Israeli-U.S. plot.

MORE PHOTOS & VIDEO Almost a quarter of British Muslims say the July 7 attacks can be justified because of the Government's support for the 'war on terror'. The shocking 23 per cent figure is the equivalent of 370,000 of the 16m Muslims living in the UK. More: Muslim police chief calls for inquiry into extremism And it is almost double previous opinion polls suggesting 13 per cent believe the atrocity, which claimed 52 innocent lives, could be justified. It will re-ignite the debate over whether the Government and Muslim leaders are doing enough to tackle extremism. Despite protests from the Prime Minister, it is widely accepted the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have radicalised young Muslims in Britain. But the fact so many believe it is a justification for mass murder will be deeply disturbing for Tony Blair. The latest survey of 1,000 Muslims, for a Channel Four Dispatches documentary to be screened tonight, contains a series of alarming findings. Almost four in ten believe another attack will be launched by British-born Muslim terrorists. A third of Muslims said they so disapprove of the freedoms allowed in this country they would rather live under Sharia law. The law, which is practised in large parts of the Middle East, specifies stonings and amputations as routine punishments. A third of Muslims said they also dream Britain will one day become an Islamic state. Four in ten think Diana, Princess of Wales, was killed to stop her marrying a Muslim, her lover at the time of her 1997 death, Dodi al Fayed. The survey also reveals Muslims have deep concerns about the moral fabric of the country they live in. Some 40 per cent say Britain is a country of bad moral behaviour, while 66 per cent say British parents allow their children too much freedom. A total of 44 per cent would rather send their children to a state funded Muslim school. But 80 per cent say that someone who knew of a terrorist act and did not report it would be equally to blame as the terrorists themselves. Inayat Bunglawala, spokesman for the Muslim Council of Britain, said some of the survey's findings were 'staggering'. He added: 'Many, many people in this country, both Muslim and non-Muslim, understand that our participation in the so-called war on terror and Iraq and Afghanistan have - far from increasing our country's national security - have actually undermined it. I find the figure of one-third wanting Sharia law just staggering'. Mr Blair recently condemned Muslim leaders for appearing to sympathise with extremists. He said moderate Muslims must stand up and say they disagree with the grievances of the hardliners - not just their actions. Mr Blair declared: 'I am not the person to go into the Muslim community and explain to them that this extreme view is not the true face of Islam. Very few recommendations made by the Home Office's Muslim taskforce have been taken up. Shadow Home Secretary, David Davis, said today: 'We need to promote better integration, and with it a reduction in Islamophobia. This will require a major effort and is not just a problem for the Muslim community, as the Government have previously hinted, but it is a collective problem. Some 16 per cent said that while the July 7 attacks - which claimed 52 innocent lives - may have been wrong, their cause was right. view all to read all comments that readers have sent in. Any Muslim who justifies this senseless deed does not belong in our country . The oppressed regroup and await the opportunity to revenge. Love, tolerance and understanding would eliminate the cause for terror, which these people are resorting to. The simple answer is that by the end of this century Britain will itself BE a muslim country. only 35% of Americans said they believed evolution was "a scientific theory well-supported by evidence." Maybe so, but on the scale of human ignorance, is it really that bad? PERMALINK I suspect if they'd thrown in "Didja vote fur Dubya?" and "Is Global Warming a hoax perpetuated by latte-drinking NPR-listening Bible-burning liberals?" Seriously, it is interesting that the first 25% (biblical literalist) mentioned is more likely to contain women because it shows why we Dems lost some of our strength on the female vote. PERMALINK Well, according to general relativity the frame of reference that has the sun going around the earth is just as physically valid as the one with the earth going around the sun... but I don't think 25% of Americans understand relativity (general or special), so that's probably a moot point. PERMALINK The correct answer -- on that NSF survey -- to the Earth-Sun question is, of course, that both revolve around the center of mass of the Earth-Sun system (or, rather, they both take paths through space defined by the various forces -- primarily gravity -- exerted on them by every other body in the universe, which you can conveniently reduce to their mutual interaction as them revolving around the common center of mass as a simple approximation); while that may be within the Sun itself, its really no less correct to say that the Sun revolves around the Earth than vice versa, although you'd expect an educated person to know which simplification was being looked for on a quiz of this sort. Also, I think there is a somewhat nonstandard use of "gene" in the NSF survey's question about sex determination, which might lead educated people who understand the process in detail to say that it is "false" when it is true. And, of course, "dinosaurs" are still around, as all birds are dinosaurs, and therefore the earliest humans did, in fact, live at the same time as "the dinosaurs", as do the latest humans to date, and all humans in between. A friend said that I needed to understand that when people were asked about evolution what they heard was not a question about evolution but the following: Do you believe there is no God, that all life is random and pointless and humans are hairy animals? PERMALINK I used to think S J Gould was hunting paper tigers when he kept writing books debunking creationism. I thought my grandmother was the only one who thought evolution was heresy. Thinking the environment is our responsibility is a bit different than thinking God could plunk down a couple Dodo birds in NYC whenever he wanted to or suck all the believers up into the clouds at any moment. Unfortunately, a lot of the new religious ethic in the US is based around rationalizing our actions and skirting our responsibilities. PERMALINK I was just going to wish that we could see the voting preference correlations.... Of course, I bet they'd turn out differently than you think they would. PERMALINK I'm as lefty as the next guy, but this sort of scientific ignorance isn't limited to the wingnuts. How many products do you see that claim to be "chemical free"? PERMALINK Well, according to general relativity the frame of reference that has the sun going around the earth is just as physically valid as the one with the earth going around the sun... We've been throwing more and more billions at public education for decades and keep imagining that it will stop being horrible with just a bit more. PERMALINK The disbelief in Evolution is a choice for people. Are there Anti-Evolutionists, for example, who yearn for doctors trained under a Biology that wasn't Darwin-informed? Sure, there are dumbos out there who can't even work simple math, but we're not talking about those. We're talking about the jack asses who make noise at school board meetings. Who write complicated books that promulgate foolish tenets that they don't really even believe. The proof is the pudding, Anti-Evolutionists: if you really believe what you say you do, go to 18th century medicine men with their leeches and cuppings. PERMALINK That's nothing, somewhere around 99% of Americans think bushco won the last election, perhaps they can be educated. APu: You are correct, but it is a reaction to a stolen election (did not match the exit polls)! This is what people hear: "Do you believe there is no God, that all life is random and pointless and humans are hairy animals? " People see questions like this as though they are being asked to bow down to a foreign God. Its not a sign of ignorance its a sign of religious faith. I think the left's hangup with pushing evolution so hard even though it only matters to biologists and perhaps philosophers is a sign of the left's hostility to religion. Personally, I think that the economic ignorance of much of the country is much more dangerous. PERMALINK In one study, dozens of well-meaning environmentalists signed a petition to ban "dihydrogen oxide" (water) after being told how many people are killed by it each year, how much damage it causes to the environment, etc. PERMALINK Let's follow the LIBERAL British model shall we? com: "In the Telegraph records yet another extraordinary development in the de-education of Britain. The GCSE science curriculum, studied by all pupils from 14 to 16, will no longer have much science in it. Instead, according to the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, pupils will be taught about science, as well as being fed straight propaganda. Thus: 'Instead of learning science, pupils will "learn about the way science and scientists work within society". They will "develop their ability to relate their understanding of science to their own and others' decisions about lifestyles", the QCA said. They will be taught to consider how and why decisions about science and technology are made, including those that raise ethical issues, and about the "social, economic and environmental effects of such decisions". Instead of being given the knowledge to enable them to understand science, to decipher how scientific processes work and even to become scientists themselves, pupils are to be taught instead about the effects of science on society -- and from an ideologically correct position. In other words, science education is simply being emptied of content. The implications for individuals and for Britain are of course astounding. Maths, history, geography, all have been progressively emptied of content over the years and been replaced by spoon-fed propaganda. Foreign languages, whose teaching was emasculated by the ideological animus against formal grammar, have all but disappeared from many schools altogether after the government weakened their compulsory element. The reason given for the change to the science curriculum is to make science 'relevant to the 21st century'. This is in accordance with the government's doctrine of 'personalised learning', which means that everything that is taught must be 'relevant' to the individual child. This philosophy, of course, destroys the very basis of education which is all about exposing a child to what he or she does not already know. Once again, one has to ask the key question about this government. Do they really have no understanding of what they are doing -- or are they following a programme to destroy the very basis of this society?" PERMALINK One of the benefits of public education is its cultural foundations... However, I'm a believer that those who think science is blasphemy have worked quietly to dismantle the educational system and destroy people's trust in it. They've done the same for so-called liberal bias and now have their sites set on "main stream media." when do you get "monostaries" dedicated to secular humanism and rational thought? PERMALINK Even a cat with hairballs knows more than the average American. It's become politically incorrect to teach something that is at odds with someone's belief system, even if it's true. But every last student must graduate, no matter how ignorant they are. PERMALINK Actually while there is good evidence for evolution as a mechanism of biological change. I wouldn't say there is good evidence of random mutation being the original source of...

MORE PHOTOS & VIDEO Britain's most senior Asian policeman yesterday warned that tougher anti-terror laws are discriminating against Muslims. Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner Tarique Ghaffur - who is Muslim - said police and security services are running a 'real risk' of criminalising ethnic minorities as a result of the crackdown on suspected terrorists. Almost a quarter of Muslims believe 7/7 was justified He said Islamophobia in Britain and the West had created a 'generation of angry young people' who were vulnerable to extremism. The Ugandan-born police chief, 51, who arrived in Britain as a teenager, also warned that the recent controversies over the Stockwell shooting and the Forest Gate terror raid had eroded the 'confidence and trust' of minority communities in the police. He called for an independent judicial review into why some young Muslims become radicalised. His comments came during a speech at the National Black Police Association conference in Manchester, in which he also described how he had been a victim of racism during his 30-year police career. Mr Ghaffur said Britain, its police service and the Islamic community had reached a 'critical crossroad' in efforts to prevent the 'flight, fight or separation' of Muslims in the UK. The 'overriding objective' had to be to stop another terrorist attack, he said. While it was right to tackle the terrorist threat 'robustly', the police service needed to 'think very carefully' about the wider consequences for community relations. However, Mr Ghaffur said the 'overriding critical requirement' was for leadership from within the Muslim community itself. Certain elements were in 'various stages of denial' about the events of 7/ 7, he said. The father of two began his career as a constable in Manchester. He joined the Met as a Deputy Assistant Commissioner in 1999, before becoming a -L-150,000-a-year assistant commissioner. Yesterday he spoke about how racism has blighted his career. Over the past four years, he has unsuccessfully applied to be deputy commissioner of the Met and chief constable of three forces: Greater Manchester, West Midlands and West Yorkshire.
