This will bring you to the option named "enable-aggregate-command-set." Type "X" to Set this option, then "E" to Exit Setup. Type "Y" to commit the changes. This will bring you back to the Main Menu. www.decf.berkeley.edu/help/mail/pine-imapssl.html For example, you can configure Pine on your Linux research machine to check for DECF mail via IMAP To set-up*: 1 You must be running Pine 430 or later. edu/ssl/user=YOURUSERNAME/novalidate-cert}INBOX " f Type "E" to Exit setup. g Type "Y" for yes to commit changes 5 Now quit Pine by typing "Q" and run Pine again. edu/ssl/user=YOURUSERNAME/novalidate-cert Path: mail/ View: --leave this blank-- e Type Ctrl-X to save this entry. f Type "Y" for yes to save changes g Type "E" to Exit setup. Note: You can specify any path where mail folders exist, usually the default is "mail/" if you use Pine on DECF servers also. To configure Pine to view subdirectories: a Type "S" for Setup b Type "C" for Configure c Scroll down to "enable-lame-list-mode" under "Folder Preferences" d Type "X" to enable this setting e Type "E" to Exit Setup f Type "Y" for yes to save changes Now you can view the subdirctories with the ">" command, scroll through messages with the arrow keys, and view messages in that folder with the "enter" key. Note: Pine defines "folders" as containing messages while "directories" contain more folders or directories. ") will show subdirectories and folders but viewing it with "enter" will show you messages. If set, this feature defines a pseudo-folder collection called "INCOMING MESSAGE FOLDERS". Initially, the only folder included in this collection will be your INBOX, which will no longer show up in your Default folder collection. You will be prompted for where the host the folder is stored on (which defaults to the same host used for your INBOX), a nickname, and the actual folder name. Once a set of Incoming Message Folders are defined, the TAB key (in MESSAGE INDEX or MESSAGE TEXT screens) may be used to scan the folders for those with Recent messages. If you add more folders to your Incoming-Folders collection, turning this feature back off will have no effect. To have Pine use your local mail resources also, do the following from Pine's main menu: a Type S for Setup b Type L for Collection List c Type A for Add collection d Fill in the following: Nickname: Local folders Server: --leave this blank-- Path: mail/ View: --leave this blank-- e Hit Ctrl-X to save this entry. g Type "E" to Exit setup Note: You can specify any path where mail folders exist, usually the default is "mail/". To copy mail from Local folders to IMAP folders, navigate to a folder you'd like to copy from and do the following: a Type ";" to Select Criteria b Type "A" to Select All (Choose your specific selection criteria) c Type "A" to Apply. d Type "S" to Save e Type "Ctrl-T" to Go to Folders f Navigate to your target folder and hit enter twice to complete. Note: Make sure you have enable-aggregate-command-set enabled in your configuration options. There are several ways to accomplish this, some harmless experimentation with select is a good idea to familiarize yourself with this process. |
www.fas.harvard.edu/computing/kb/kb0869.html QUESTION: How can I reduce the size of my inbox using Pine? ANSWER: To check the size of your inbox, type checkquota at the fas% prompt. Your disk quota usage and your inbox size will be displayed. You can reduce the size of your inbox using Pine by deleting messages or by moving messages to different folders. After typing pine at the fas% prompt, type "I" to reach the Message Index of your inbox. To delete a message, type "D" while the message is highlighted in the Message Index, or while viewing the message. To save a message to another folder, type "S" while the message is highlighted in the Message Index or while viewing the message, type the name of the folder to which you wish to save the message, and then press Enter. There are two ways to create a new message folder: You can type "S" to save a message to a folder and then type the name of the folder you wish to create. Or, type "L" to reach the Folder List, and then type "A" to Add a folder. To expunge deleted messages from your inbox, you can either quit Pine (which will automatically expunge the deleted messages), or, while in the Message Index, type "X". To select multiple messages in your inbox that match a pattern: While in the Message Index, type ";" To enable the "Select" feature in Pine, type "M" for Main Menu, then "S" for Setup, and "C" for Config. Type "W" for WhereIs, and enter "aggregate" as the word to find. This will bring you to the option named "enable-aggregate-command-set." For instance, to select all messages from jharvard, type ";" for Select, "T" for Text, "F" for From, and then "jharvard". The messages that have been selected will have an "X" next to them. eg, to select all message from jharvard that contain the word "Radcliffe", follow the directions above to select all messages from jharvard. again, "N" for Narrow selection, "T" for Text, "A" for All, and then "Radcliffe". Once you have the desired messages selected, you can apply a command to all of them, such as deleting them or saving them to a folder. You will be prompted to enter a command, eg, "D" for Delete or "S" to Save messages to a folder. Regularly cleaning out your inbox and saving messages to different folders will help keep your inbox smaller. If you have not already done so, you may also wish to enable spam filtering, which can keep most spam out of your inbox. |
