\_ well, that just makes me think (yeah, I know the author is leaning

\_ "... as the child rapists". Have these guys had a trial yet?

\_ Well, yeah. Because these terrorists are always so coy with their
motivations and anti-US propoganda. They just forgot to mention
till now why they did it.

1/4 Why the fascination with blowing up airplanes? Airports have tight
security. It doesn't seem worth it. It's far easier to derail a
train or set off explosives in a crowded place like a theater or
sporting event. As many or more people will be killed and it will
still make the news. I don't get why all of our security, and
apprently much of the terrorist's resources, is focused on airplanes.

AP Group: Soldiers killed over rape-slaying By ROBERT H REID, Associated Press Writer Tue Jul 11, 11:44 AM ET BAGHDAD, Iraq - An al-Qaida-linked group posted a Web video Tuesday purporting to show the mutilated bodies of two US soldiers, claiming it killed them in revenge for the rape-slaying of a young Iraqi woman by American troops from the same unit. The Mujahedeen Shura Council previously claimed responsibility for killing the two soldiers, who were seized in a June 16 attack near the town of Youssifiyah, southwest of Baghdad. But the statement was the first time the group linked the slaying to the rape case. A statement by the group said the video was released as "revenge for our sister who was dishonored by a soldier of the same brigade." It said that as soon as fighters heard of the rape-slaying, "they kept their anger to themselves and didn't spread the news, but were determined to avenge their sister's honor." "God Almighty enabled them to capture two soldiers of the same brigade as this dirty crusader," said the written statement posted along with the video. The US military has charged five soldiers, including two sergeants, in connection to the March 12 alleged rape and murder of Abeer Qassim Hamza in the Youssifiyah area and the killing of her parents and a younger sister. The US military released the identities of the suspects Monday. A previously discharged soldier was also arrested in the case last month and charged with rape and murder. US investigators had said there was no evidence linking the deaths of the three soldiers last month to the alleged rape-slaying. It was the first time the council had linked the killing of the Americans to the rape case, although it had claimed responsibility for the US deaths. Abeer's uncle told The Associated Press last week that the family didn't think the Americans were involved until the Army announced its investigation June 30. The US military said Tuesday it condemns "in the strongest of terms" the release of the video showing the two mutilated American soldiers. "It demonstrates the barbaric and brutal nature of the terrorists and their complete disregard for human life," it said in a statement. "Coalition Forces remain resolute in our in commitment to catch the perpetrators of this crime and bring them to justice." The 4-minute, 39-second video shows two bloodied bodies in torn military uniforms lying near a curb on a bridge over a canal. One of them, partially naked, has been decapitated and his chest cut open. The other's face is bruised, the jaw apparently broken, and his leg has long gashes. Fighters are shown turning the bodies over and lifting the head of the decapitated man. The Mujahedeen Shura Council is an umbrella organization of several Islamic extremist groups, including al-Qaida in Iraq. It claimed responsibility for shooting down a US Apache helicopter in the Youssifiyah area in April. Bryan L Howard are accused of rape and murder and several other charges as alleged participants. Anthony W Yribe, is charged with failing to report the attack but is not alleged to have been a direct participant. The five will face an Article 32 hearing, the military equivalent of a grand jury proceeding, to determine if they should stand trial. They are charged with conspiring with former soldier Steven D Green, who was arrested in the case last month in North Carolina. Green has pleaded not guilty to one count of rape and four counts of murder and is being held without bond. William Caldwell, declined to comment further on details about the attack, saying the investigation continues. "But they obviously had enough information in the initial investigation to go ahead and charge those four soldiers all with alleged rape, rape, obstruction of justice, housebreaking, arson and the other offenses," he told reporters in Baghdad. FBI affidavit filed in Green's case, he and at least two others targeted the young woman and her family for a week before the attack, which was not revealed until witnesses came forward in late June. The soldiers drank alcohol, abandoned their checkpoint, changed clothes to avoid detection and headed to the victims' house, about 200 yards from a US checkpoint in the "Triangle of Death," a Sunni Arab area south of Baghdad known for its violence, the affidavit said. But a doctor at the Mahmoudiya hospital gave her age as 14. Green is accused of raping Abeer and killing her and the three other family members, including a girl estimated to be 5 years old. An official familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press that Green set fire to the rape victim's body in an apparent cover-up attempt. Iraqi authorities identified the other victims as Abeer's father, Qassim Hamza; The March 12 attack was among the worst in a series of cases of US troops accused of killing and abusing Iraqi civilians. US officials are concerned the case will strain relations with Iraq's new government and increase calls for changes in an agreement that exempts American soldiers from prosecution in Iraqi courts. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has demanded an independent investigation into the case, which comes after a series of allegations that US troops killed and mistreated Iraqi civilians. In this March 2005 file photo released by Ben Overby, former soldier Steven D Green is shown at Fort Benning, Ga. Green is charged with raping and murdering a teenage Iraqi girl and killing her parents and sister on March 12. A terrorist group in Iraq claimed Tuesday that three soldiers from the same unit were killed in retaliation for the killings. One of the soldiers died in that attack on June 16, and the bodies of the other two soldiers were found mutilated three days later. Despite the group's statement in a Web video Tuesday, US investigators say there's no evidence that the two incidents are connected. A video message on an Al-Qaeda linked website claims three US soldiers were killed in June in revenge for a rape and murder incident that's currently being investigated by the Army. The information contained in the AP News report may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed without the prior written authority of The Associated Press.

Days after former private Steven Green was charged as a civilian in a US court with rape and four murders, four serving soldiers were charged with the same offences, the US military said in statement. Another soldier, apparently a sixth member of Green's former unit in the 502nd Infantry Regiment, was charged on Saturday with dereliction of duty for not reporting the crime in March. All five were charged with conspiring with Green, accused by US prosecutors of going with three others to a house near the checkpoint they were manning outside Mahmudiya, near Baghdad, and of killing a couple and their two daughters. Court documents described the raped daughter as an "adult female" and estimated her age as 25. US military officials in Iraq say their documents have her as 20. Local officials and relatives had said she was 15 or 16. Her identity card and a copy of her death certificate obtained by Reuters, however, show she was 14. Abeer Qasim Hamza al-Janabi was born on August 19, 1991 in Baghdad, according to the identity card, provided to Reuters by a relative. Issued in 1993, it features a photograph of her at 18 months, wide-eyed and with a lick of dark hair over her brow. A copy of her death certificate, dated March 13, gives the same birth date. She was found at home by a relative on March 12 and had died from "gunshot wounds to the head, with burns", said the document, signed by doctor Wael Habib and a registrar.
