FOAF What's so bad about being a punk rock faggot hippy, anyway? Thursday, February 16th, 2006 gator gram I had no idea how long it had been since I did a comic. It was very hard to find the venue for the show we did in St. For the record, it would seem that, I swear to you, 95% of the women in St. The morning after the show we had breakfast at this small place in town that was pretty good, and the ladies working there proved the rule extended beyond just the show settting. Thank god, too, because I thought for a while I'd never be able to stand again. the Intent, who are actually pretty good (they sound to me like an updated Refused with a bit more melody). I have some more comics planned for later, sorry I have been too busy to get to them lately. I think I'm going to try and wrap up this tour arc within three strips all on the next update, then start back in with the usual barrage of jokes about ogling women's breasts at the bar. The thing is that, as an athiest, I don't BELIEVE in Satan. So I don't typically think about walking around wearing my Slayer shirt with the big pentagram on it, because the pentagram means nothing to me. Don't you ever listen to Slayer and just go, "Aww, you guys are so precious"? I have some more flyers I need to draw, and I guess I just need to start getting used to the idea of making some random drawings with nothing to do with anything just to put on flyers. Because, really, flyers don't need to be representative of much, they just need to catch the eye. I've spent so much time drawing specifically as a means of conveying ideas or telling stories that drawing for drawing's sake is altogether foreign to me. Any ideas you might have on what kinds of things would be cool to draw on flyers for shows, let me know. One of them is going to be for Ted Leo too, and those we were talking about screening onto poster board to make extra awesome, so think of what kinds of poster art you'd want hanging on your wall. Leave a comment) Saturday, February 11th, 2006 there's only two songs in me ART DUMP Assignment #1 came from the ever-awesome Todd at Razorcake HQ. It was, of course, a new Nardwuar assignment, this time for his interview with Alice Cooper. I couldn't come up with a good way to meld the death instruments into the rest of the piece without over-shading and making everything look poopy. Still, I think it's probably at least the third best Nardwuar I've done yet. Also, when the issue actually comes out, look for Waldo in the skulls in the background, along with an assortment of golfing gear. He had booked a show in town and I told him I'd do a flyer. I have absolutely no idea who any of those bands are, so don't even ask. All I know is the banners and shit up at the top turned out AWESOME The animals are mostly okay (the giraffe with a kitten on his head is my favorite, only partially because it involves a kitten, as everything should). Coming soon, if I can remember it, will be a Burt Reynolds portrait in celebration of his birthday today. I am incredibly proud of this project, and I'm especially happy that so many people were able to accept me as a dramatic writer as easily as a setup-exposition-punchline gag comic writer. A sequel will be in the works some day in the future, but not yet. More details on what Joe and I have planned next will come soon enough. Not only that, but I heard rumor that there were plans of including possibly two or THREE extra kids in the back of that van. I think I would have turned around and gone back to San Antonio. Thing is, I started drawing the last panel, and then an intensely annoying infomercial came on in the next room and I could hear it, but I didn't want to get up until I had finished the comic. A a result, I finished that one panel, pencils AND inks, in under ten minutes. Cars usually take me about an hour to draw if I want to really get them right. So yes, I know it looks like shit, please try not to make a big thing about it. I didn't draw any comics over the trip, and so I've been in a bit of a slump since I got back (I'm also still pretty sick, which doesn't help). I figured I'd just force myself to update, regardless of how crappy, and hopefully I can get my groove back soon. I have plenty more strips scripted up and ready to draw. Just go read any comic syndicated in a newspaper if you don't believe me. Vote for more Joe Dunn pinup fury, featuring Bender and a radical punctuation error! This may or may not be Joe's last incentive for me, I'm not sure yet. Anyhow, check back tomorrow for more awesome comics, better art, and a chance to win a date with Nina Persson! I wanted to have some SARC for you today, but I was pretty much too sick to get out of bed all day, even called in to work which I hate doing. It might not be funny, it might not look awesome, but I WILL put one up, no matter what. Until then, Joe made me another kickass voting incentive, this time featuring Bender! My internet is pretty messed up right now and I cannot for the life of me figure out what's wrong with my computer. Anyhow, the tour was great, we all had a lot of fun, everything was cool as hell. Thanks to everyone who came out and said hi, who bought shirts, who watched the shows, who rushed the stage, and everthing else. I'm updating on Victoria's computer right now, which means I can't access my FTP, which means I can't update the voting incentive or, well, anything except tCA, really. But it'd still be great if you voted anyway and I'll see if I can't figure out a way to get some new voting incentives and, of course, a ton of new SARC comics up very quickly. Our show in Tuscaloosa, Alabama went very very well, we were all surprised at how many kids showed up and how positive the reaction was. Now I'm in a vrumbling estate in Birmingham for the night, then it's up early and on to Florida for the first of two shows with Against Me Now it's only a matter of time before we discover wheteher the next two days are going to be tons of fun for everyone, or super awkward for me. Also, looks like small is a more popular size than anticipated! I may only have one or two shirts left in that size, so come early and pick one up! So here are some updates: We're down to four people in the van so it shouldn't be too cramped. I am leaving for Houston in a few minutes, then on to Florida from there. For those of you not up to speed, I'm gonnna be joining the O Pioneers on a brief tour this weekend. ATTN FLORIDA AND ALABAMA ) I think I'm going to skip on making minicomics this time around because it's gonna cost kind of a lot, but it would have all been stuff you've read already anyway. Next time I'll put something cool and original together if I'm not too broke. For now it's gonna be all handshakes and hugs and t-shirts and punk rock music. Since I'm going to be away from my scanner for a bit, I've asked my Coffee Achievers partner, Mr Joe Dunn to draw me some coting incentives. I have to sort a bunch of crap out and then go to Houston and THEN on to Florida. And of course, what with the internet situation being up in the air, and that I will not be bringing my scanner for the ride, I guess no SARC updates until I get back. In any event, I'm sure the whole trip will become a nice little arc, so the hiatus will end with a big TOUR arc! And between me having shit-talked one of the touring bands and the constant addition of new people to the already cramped van, the potential for comedy is high. For those of you who didn't catch the news last time, I will be on tour for the next few days with my friends in the O Pioneers (a great live band, really), and will be selling shirts at their merch table for ten bucks apiece. I'm going to put the vote button up here again even though there's no SARC comic up. You can decide for yourself whether it is couth to vote in this situation or not. I left the same potentially NSFW Faye/Dora makeout drawing up as the incentive because I didn't feel like changing it if I wasn't even gonna draw a comic. Okay you guys, hopefully I can find internet access enough to keep updating this blog every day. And hell, maybe I can even convince Joe to draw me some fresh vote incen...
