Because it is the best-selling car in the US and many other countries, and for the first time it will b e available with a hybrid drivetrain. It is probably the next big step i n mainstream acceptance of fuel efficient, very low emission cars. We've been covering it fairly extensively lately (see links at the end of thi s post) and figured that it wouldn't hurt to show even more pictures, in cluding of the interior.
H onda has been showcasing this little gem since last summer. The electric Moped-EV is designed specifically with in-city commuting, and designers kept its size down accordingly. The bantam weighs only 44kg (just under 100lb) and employs an innovative nickle hydrogen battery to store 360 w att-hours of energy (compared to your digital camera's battery, which ho lds around 35 watt-hr). This gives the little guy enough kick to climb a twelve-degree incline, and rocket off the line with acceleration and r ange comparable to a similar gas scooter...
jpg Yes, its true that I grew up in New England and th us have a soft spot in my heart for Volvos, but man, these things have c ome a long way since The Preppy Handbook came out. The companys 3CC con cept car is powered by an 80 kW AC induction motor and has a potential d riving range of 180 miles. Super ergonomic (its dials even sense when yo ur fingers get close), it also features zero-emissions, ...
jpg Though some US states wont even sell diesel cars, we al l know that they have certain fuel-economy characteristics that make the m desirable in some ways, though there's still certainly room for improv ement.
Greasecar, where DIY kits will help you convert your diesel vehicle into veggie-powered transport. The kits go for about $600, but one user claims that she made her money back in only nine months, accord ing to Budget Living magazine. There is some technical know-how involved , but once youre under way, you can run your buggy on good old food gre ase, potentially gotten for free from restaurants that might otherwise h ave to pay to get rid of it.
Probably because the single largest contributor to atmospheric pollu tion is surprise, surprise: motor vehicles. And according to various est imates 250,000 people die on the road every year, with 10,000,000 more i njured. Human kind has yet to invent a means of transport that is more earth and peopl e friendly or emission-free as a pushbike. Munch a half decent breakfast and lunch and you can cover maybe 140 km (87 miles) a day. No electrici ty, oil, gas, hydrogen or batteries required.
jpg Hands up if you have a old bike in the garage gath ering dust? Like allowing African school kids and low paid workers to hoon off down the dirt track, indep endent of expensive taxis (some households spend 25% of their income on transport). Or assisting women to collect water and firewood without the m being the real beasts of burden. Or allowing HIV/AIDS awareness educat ors and volunteers to reach remote villages.
jpg Give a German a skateboard and some kitesurfing gear and w hat will he do? Fly unsupported, up the middle of the Australian outback , coast to coast, covering 3,000 km (1,900 miles) in a mere 17 days. Di rk Gion was pulled over by the police on a couple of occasions.
Unlike 2 wheel bicycles, most 3 wheelers, although stable on the flat, just can't get up a good lean as they hurtle around a corner. That outside wheel feels like it wants t o rise up, like the hull of a catamaran on an exciting tack.
No, we didn't manipulate the photo and no, it didn't shrink in the laundry. It may look kinda cute but the stats are outright amazing. This little wo nder accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (97 kph) in just 4 seconds. Should you ev er need to test this claim, you'll be protected by a racing-certified ro ll cage and ballast for sticky cornering.
The words Schwarzenegger and green dont really seem a natural mix. After all, this is the first civilian to dri ve a Hummer (convinced GM to build a consumer version).
Instead, GM built a hydrogen Hummer and lent it to him for hi s recent announcement of plans to drastically increase the number of hyd rogen refueling stations across California. Okay, well give him the ben efit of the doubt that this is more than a political gesture, but Green Hummer is still a contradiction in terms.
jpg Forget romantic visions of cycling with wind in your hair. Get your tangl ed locks inside a sleek shaped monocoque shell, made of carbon fibre. De signed by Michael Goretzky (one of the guys behind the SMART car) who re ckons you can go almost forever without refuelling. OK, so you might sto p for the occasional veggie burger and cleansing ale. This true "Human P owered Vehicle" (HPV) comes with front, rear and indicator lights. Luggage compartments ar e under development as is a battery powered electric motor. And girls, it even has has a side view mirror so you could, at a pinc h, adjust your make-up while waiting at the traffic lights.
jpg The Toyota Camry, already a top-seller in the US, may have a hybrid cousin coming to market by 2006. According to one report, Toyota expects to sell more than 100,000 hybrid Camrys in the US each year, creating mad demand for the vehicles.

gif Posted by: John Laumer at December 10, 2005 03:23 PM I don't understand where the pictures come from. The pictures from "More photos of the 2007 Toyota Camry" have a different front-end and a differ ent radiator than the one on your other pages.
gif Posted by: Thierry Nawar at December 10, 2005 07:21 PM Thierry, I think that within the 2007 Camry lineup some cosmetic differences are t o be expected among different models.
at December 10, 2005 07:59 PM It is obvious by the looks of the instrumentation that this pic is not th e hybrid. In another treehugger photo of a black vehicle please look carefully of t he nameplate right in front of the rear wheels.
gif Posted by: jasper at December 10, 2005 10:16 PM John Laumer where did you get that idea. Next year Ford is rolling out a Hybrid Fusion a car that competes head to head with the Camary. Not all Detroit based car companies are backward just many think they are. GM sh ould be sweating, they're no where near having anything to compete.
