View Replies To: SoFloFreeper So eight French cops got the jump on one guy? I wonder how many of those eight had white flags tuck ed away just in case things went badly.
I hate to mention this, but didn't the rioting calm down a bit last night? I don't think police officers should ever use excessive force. The thing is, excessive force is a sliding scale based on circumstances. Somehow, I don't think that is quite understood by most people. It takes what it takes to get the job done for the greater good.
az=view_all &address=104x5320259 The violence and anger we are seeing in the streets of France is a direct result of racist and classist governmental policies. They are the result of a large segment of the French popu lation being cut off from economic opportunity, legal representation and hope. I want you freeps to take a good hard look at the outcome of decades of d ivisive policies and prejudice. It is where we a re headed as long as you racist and elitist freeps run the show. The Ame rican poor and minorities feel more and more disenfranchised everyday. T his is a direct result of the policies implemented under the Bush regime with full and open freeper support. All I can say is when the riots hit this country, I hope that the rioters are smart enough to go after red states and red strongholds in otherwis e blue states instead of burning their own neighborhoods. I just hope that sanity prevails SOON so that rioting does not become the answer.

View Replies To: SoFloFreeper I wonder if Al Sharpton or Jesse will come to the beaten man's defense? M aybe they can force the French government to make a "donation" to the ra inbow coalition.
View Replies To: pikachu I wonder how many of those eight had white flags tucked away just in case things went badly. And in a pinch, the flags may be wrapped around the head as a turban so t hat the cop can join in on the rioting.

View Replies To: SoFloFreeper The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced France could become Eur o-Detroit. prosperous, full of business and li fe, fantastic buildings and had so much to offer. After the race riots t hey've become the poorest, most liberal (I'm still trying to puzzle THAT one out) and the most segregated city in the US. They heap financial de mands on the rest of the state, villify the suburbs, run lynching electi on ads (see Hip-Hop Kilpatrick's campaign), tax the snot out of homeowne rs, are anti-business and their schools are a disaster. They've even got "African Town," which gives preferential treatment of black-owned busin esses over Arab and Hispanic. I don't know if they've got suburbs *outside* the slums they can flee to, but at this point I don't think they're willing to do what it takes to reclaim their city. It's been 30 years and the place is STI LL going downhill because of racism -- blacks against everybody else.
View Replies To: SoFloFreeper For years- heck, decades- I've enjoyed mocking the French and it seems no w that this pastime may be in danger. Who will we use as the butts of al l our stinky, effete, and cowardly jokes if the French succumb to social Darwinism? It seems then to be in our nationnal interst to do something to preserve this humourous facet of our national culture. Oh, we could send them a s tatue, I suppose, but more fitting I think would be a member of our uppe r class who enjoys slumming with his inferiors, just as they sent us Laf ayette. I would like to propose we send John Kerry over to dire ct their efforts at remaining an independent nation. He's not doing much and it has been remarked that he already looks French. Perhaps with his direction and experience, the French will indeed be able to preserve th eir unique place in American culture.
Europe never learned the real lesson of the evils of Nazism. Rather than reject the deepest premises of the Nazis, they have inverted them into a new form, so that Europe no longer seeks to liquidate its racial minori ties but instead empowers those minorities to carry out the self-liqui dation of Europe.
