Trains will only stop at the following 21 stations: SAN FRANCISCO: * 24th Street/Mission * Embarcadero * Balboa Park * Montgomery * Powell EAST BAY: * Bay Fair * Downtown Berkeley * Concord * Dublin/Pleasanton * El Cerrito Del Norte * Fremont * Lake Merritt * MacArthur (AC Transit Transfer Point) * Coliseum/Oakland Airport * Pittsburg/Bay Point * Richmond * Rockridge * Walnut Creek PENINSULA: * Colma * Millbrae * San Francisco International Airport AC Transit will offer connecting service at the MacArthur BART Station. HISTORY OF ALL NIGHT SERVICE The last time BART offered overnight train service was between December 3 1, 1999 through January 1, 2000 for the Millennium celebrations. Ironically, the time previous to that was also because of Bay Bridge cons truction work. BART was a lifeline for commuters and the economy after t he October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake collapsed a portion of the br idges upper deck, shutting it down for a month while crews repaired the bridge. BART ran 24-hours a day for nearly the entire time the bridge wa s down. WHY BART DOESNT HAVE 24 HOUR SERVICE BART does not provide regular 24-hour service because many essential main tenance activities can only take place when the system is shut down. Thi s maintenance work is essential for both operational safety reasons and to ensure the longterm reliability of the system. |
