9/23 Donahue vs. O'Reilly http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/09/21.html \_ In this video, Donahue triumphed. He was very assertive and did not get verbally bullied and out-screamed easily like the others. It was very brave of him to go to the OReilley show. \_ You've got to be kidding. Donahue's "opening statment" was pure Sheehan spin, ignoring the (legitimate) criticism of some of her loony comments. \_ The transcript doesn't have "I want to cut your mike" part from O'Reilly. The transcript doesn't lie, so this must mean that the left wing propaganda media ADDED fake O'Reilly voice to make him look bad! http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,170195,00.html \_ huh, he said that in the Donahue interview as well as Glick's? \_ Yes, watch the video. He like saying that when he's on the defensive. \_ I can never see Donahue anywhere now without seeing Phil Hartman's impression of him. \_ Bill O'Reilly is a blowhard, but Phil Donahue is a sad parody of himself. Calling the war unconstitutional, telling O'Reilly that he just wants to appear "tough" by having a war, telling O'Reilly that "you wouldn't send your children to this war", and calling O'Reilly "Billy". What a piece of work. -emarkp \_ Interesting. I consider myself an independent. It's how I registered. I am overall a fiscal conservative and social liberal. I think both guys made valid points and also conceded points. Neither really addressed the other's most important concerns. It seems that liberals think Donahue somehow showed up O'Reilly. Do conservatives think the opposite? I don't really share either opinion, which is why I guess I'm an "I". FWIW, I am starting to despise the left as much as the right and I voted for Clinton (2x), Gore, and Kerry. I just hate Bush that much more. However, give me a better choice and I'm not voting "D". --dim \_ Yeah, I'm an "I" (recently) too, but conservative. I believe the Iraq war was the right thing to do. I also believe there are legitimate concerns about the war, but Donahue was just being nutty and condescending. -emarkp \_ It's showmanship. They both probably went backstage afterwards and smoked a joint and had some scotch. The hosts of these shows go over-the-top to attract ratings. You get the feeling they could have a really interesting and insightful discussion if they wanted to, but American viewers won't watch that. |

www.crooksandliars.com/2005/09/21.html jpg Phil Donahue vs Bill O'Reilly Falafel Bill's head explodes! Phil goes on the offensive immediately telling Billy that he's leading th e pack to marginalize Cindy Sheehan. Bittorrent-QT Donohue: Cindy Sheehan is one tough mother and nothing you say or anyone else is going to slow her down. You can't hurt her, she's already taken the biggest punch in the nose that a woman can take. Phil asks O'Reilly if his children would fight in the war and the meltdow n ensues. Bill tells him that his nephew just joined (that's not his kid s) and blows his top. O'Reilly threatens to boot Donohue off the set for saying absolutely nothing. The bloviator really lost it, playing the " you're denigrating him" card. If C&L was like certain right wing sites, I'm sure we would fact check Billy's nephew. Boston lost to Tampa Bay to move the Yanks into first place. There are g reat battles going on as the Indian's beat the White Sox again and have a slight grip on the wild card while inching closer to first place in th e Central. The A's are still fighting the Angels for the West title and the National League has a similar wild card race going.... Will Carter move up the ladder on Bernard Goldberg's book? He's currently # 6 right now, but I'm sure Bernie will re-think his position and come up with a companion piece soon. www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,170195,00.html SHOW INFO This is a partial transcript from "The O'Reilly Factor," September 23, 20 05, that has been edited for clarity. Watch "The O'Reilly Factor" weeknights at 8 pm and 11 pm ET and liste n to the "Radio Factor!" In the "Factor Follow-up" segment tonight, while most politicians have sta yed far away from Cindy Sheehan because of her somewhat radical views, a few showbiz people have embraced her. In the past, Ms Sheehan has criticized Israel, saying it is occupying Pa lestine, has called Iraqi insurgents freedom fighters, has accused Ameri cans of killing people ever since we stepped on this continent, has thre atened Hillary Clinton with the loss of her job unless she calls for a p ull-out of US troops from Iraq and has called the US action against Afghanistan a failure. And with us now is Phil Donahue, who supports Ms Sheehan's dissent. So I'm assuming you don't you don't support all her positions that I ju st ran down. ADVERTISEMENTS PHIL DONAHUE, FORMER TALK SHOW HOST: Let's understand what's happening he re. Once again we have a woman who got to be just a little too famous fo r the people who support this war. And so the effort to marginalize this woman is underway. DONAHUE: First of all, Cindy Sheehan is one tough mother. And nothing you say or anyone else is going to slow her down. She's already taken the biggest punch in the nose that a woman can take. DONAHUE: And by the way, she is going to be at the center of one of the l argest rallies since the Vietnam War: proud, patriotic Americans who wil l show up in Washington this week for one of the most massive, largest d emonstrations, protest demonstrations... DONAHUE: And FOX is in the business of saying that this woman is somehow saying un-American things. What's radical is to send more A mericans to die in this war, which is a monumental blunder... by a president who swaggered us into it with, by the way, th e at least tacit approval of the Democratic Party. O'REILLY: If we cut and run out of there like you want to do, we would be putting every American in a thousand times more jeopardy than they're i n now. American military leaders have said we're g oing to draw down, beginning next year. O'REILLY: There's a difference between drawing down and cutting and runni ng. O'REILLY: You're a cut and run guy, and I don't want my family in danger because of you. I want to give the Iraqis a cha nce to train their army so they can defeat these people who are trying t o turn it into a terrorist state. O'REILLY: Yes, and he's a patriot, so don't denigrate his service or I'll boot you right off the set. O'REILLY: That boy made a decision to serve his country. DONAHUE: I'm not somebody you can come and just do all your... DONAHUE: You are part of a loud group of people who want to prove they're tough and send other people's kids to war to make the case. O'REILLY: You have no clue about how to fight a war on terror or how to d efend your country. For Ms Sheehan to say that the insurgents have a right to kill Americans, and you're s haking her hand? DONAHUE: How many more young men and women are you going to send to have their arms and legs blown off... so that you can be tough and point at people in a kind of co wardly way... take people like Jeremy Glick, who comes on to, in memory of his parents... Do you feel that you have to be you have to feel sorry about that. Do you know what the pain that brought the families who lost people in 9/11? This war turned its back on the people who framed the most fa bulous document in the history of civilization. Twenty-one Democrats in the Senate voted against this war, as well as Jeffords, an independent. And may the Lord shine his blessings down upon Lincoln Chaffee... DONAHUE: Lincoln Chaffee, the only Republican in the Senate to vote again st this war. DONAHUE: October 2002, they stood up to a president and they knew that, f irst of all, only Congress can declare war. DONAHUE: Why can't you become the patriot that your loud voice proclaims to be? DONAHUE: And stand behind the Constitution and insist that we never go to war again without the approval and... O'REILLY: If they want to take action, they can take action. Now I want t o say something, I'm going to give you the last word. O'REILLY: Listen to me and then you're going to have the last word. Not s omething I embrace, could be a tactical error, optional war and we have not waged it the way I had hoped we would wage it. And if you don't understand geopolitics and you d on't understand Iraq would be a terrorist state if we pulled out of ther e.. poorly executed, but Bill O'Reilly wants to send more kids t o fight and die. The number of dead A merican troops in Iraq have doubled, from over 1,000 to almost 2,000. DONAHUE: If this is an enterprise that is worth the support of the Americ an people? DONAHUE: We need you o ut in front of it to be to protest. DONAHUE: You should be proud of people who stand up and dissent. DONAHUE: A lot of fine men went and died to give me that freedom. I th ink you're way off in your analysis of the war on terror. O'REILLY: It me ans those people have a chance at democracy.
