jpg Here in the northern hemisphere, summer is in full swin g And that means barbecue, trips to the park, long bike rides, and ... For some reason, summer is synonymous wi th moving into new apartments, filling in some empty space with new furn iture, or helping a friend haul in some bark ships for the garden. So, s ince it's so nice outside, why not take advantage of it, and haul your l oad in one of these great bike extensions which Treehugger has covered o ver the years...
Th is circa $200 bike extension will haul up to 300 pounds of your stuff wi thout making you're bike feel unbalanced. Though, with only a small flat bed area on either side of the wheel, you're better off leaving the tabl es and chairs to something else.
gigantic aluminum traile rs by Bikes At Work can haul 80 gallons of your stuff packed in standard plastic storage tubs. With all the power comes a little more price -- t railers range from 345 to 470 depending on length and carrying capacity. Next time you're looking to haul something, why not try moving it under y our own power on a bike trailer. The least it will do is force you to ge t outside, which at this time of year, isn't something to complain about .
if you want to hold 2 kayaks on one bike there is probably no other way to go. You could DIY some of the parts and save asome mon ey but i reccomend against it. I have read on the xtracycle forums that they can hold in excess of 500 pounds if you get a good rugged wheel (rh yno lite with 36 spokes is a good option).
