           with the September 11th"
\_ A bunch of unverified crap from a bunch of Iraqi nationals
with an ax to grind. Hasn't the Weekly Standard discredited
itself enough peddling the WMD lies two years ago?
\_ Yeah, I saw that on http://freerepublic.com too.
Even they made comments about how incredibly long/dense it was.
\_ so we invaded Iraq because some dude got an ak-47? Where

\_ Bad conservatives. You should never change your mind, and you

\_ Most "tea party" conservatives still support the war. It is the

2/20 Ok serious question, NOT political. This is straight up procedural.
Has it been declared that we didn't find WMD in iraq? (think so).
So why did we go into iraq (what was the gain), and if nobody really
knows, why is nobody looking for the reason?
\_ Political stability, military strategy (Iran), and to prevent
           Saddam from financing terrorism.

US government "Summary of Evidence" for an Iraqi member of al Qaeda det ained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba FOR MANY, the debate over the former Iraqi regime's ties to Osama bin Lad en's al Qaeda network ended a year ago with the release of the 9/11 Comm ission report. Media outlets seized on a carefully worded summary that t he commission had found no evidence "indicating that Iraq cooperated wit h al Qaeda in developing or carrying out any attacks against the United States" and ran blaring headlines like the one on the June 17, 2004, fro nt page of the New York Times: "Panel Finds No Qaeda-Iraq Tie." It assumed, not unreasonably, that the 9 /11 Commission's conclusion was based on a firm foundation of intelligen ce reporting, that the intelligence community had the type of human inte lligence and other reporting that would allow senior-level analysts to d raw reasonable conclusions. John Lehman, a 9/11 commissioner, spoke to The Weekly Standard at the tim e the report was released. "There may well be--and probably will be--add itional intelligence coming in from interrogations and from analysis of captured records and so forth which will fill out the intelligence pictu re. This is not phrased as--nor meant to be--the definitive word on Iraq i Intelligence activities." A year later, we still cannot begin to offer a "definitive" picture of the relationships entered into by Sadd am Hussein's operatives, but much more has already been learned from doc uments uncovered after the Iraq war. The evidence we present below, comp iled from revelations in recent months, suggests an acute case of denial on the part of those who dismiss the Iraq-al Qaeda relationship. There could hardly be a clearer case--of the ongoing revelations and the ongoing denial--than in the 13 points below, reproduced verbatim from a "Summary of Evidence" prepared by the US government in November 2004. This unclassified document was released by the Pentagon in late March 20 05. It details the case for designating an Iraqi member of al Qaeda, cur rently detained in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as an "enemy combatant." The detainee stayed at the al Farouq camp in Darwanta, Afghanistan, where he received 1,000 Rupees to continue his travels. From 1997 to 1998, the detainee acted as a trusted agent for Usama B in Ladin, executing three separate reconnaissance missions for the al Q aeda leader in Oman, Iraq, and Afghanistan. In August 1998, the detainee traveled to Pakistan with a member of I raqi Intelligence for the purpose of blowing up the Pakistan, United St ates and British embassies with chemical mortars. Detainee was arrested by Pakistani authorities in Khudzar, Pakistan, in July 2002. WARNING: The page you have accessed is dependent on JAVASCRIPT which is n ot supported by your browser. Cold Turkey Posted by Rennes Templar On 05/13/2004 9:23:01 PM PDT In These Times ^ | May 10, 2004 | Kurt Vonnegut Many years ago, I was so innocent I still considered it possible that we could become the humane and reasonable America so many members of my generation used to dream of. We dreamed of such an America during the Great Depression, when there were no jobs. And then we fought and often died for that dream during the Second World War, when there was no peace. But I know now that there is not a chance in hell of Americas becoming humane and reasonable. Because power corrupts us, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
