7/9 Rove is nailed. Wonder if any major news media will pick this up
        during the week.
        http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1440027/posts
\_ Rove can become the focus of the investigation. Fitzgerald will
be asking, "Did you know Plame was CIA at the time?" "Undercover
CIA?" "Did you know you can't expose people in this class?"
\_ Rove was already known to be disgusting and people still voted
for Bush. I guess as a politician it pays to have a scumbag
for an advisor who can do the dirty stuff and take any and all flak.
\_ Nailed? "Nothing in the Cooper e-mail suggests that Rove used
Plame's name or knew she was a covert operative" ... "'A fair
reading of the e-mail makes clear that the information conveyed
was not part of an organized effort to disclose Plame's
identity...'" I'm not defending him, but he's hardly "nailed."
He may become so in the future, however.
\_ gwbush should make him a supreme court justice so
he can declare the original law unconstitutional
\_ csua motd lawyers please correct if needed, but
i think just because you didn't mean to break the law
                   is never an excuse.

West Coast Conservative It was 11:07 on a Friday morning, July 11, 2003, and Time magazine corres pondent Matt Cooper was tapping out an e-mail to his bureau chief, Micha el Duffy. "Subject: Rove/P&C," (for personal and confidential), Cooper b egan. " Cooper proceeded to spell out some guid ance on a story that was beginning to roil Washington. Last week, after Time turned over that e-mail, among other notes and e-ma ils, Cooper agreed to testify before a grand jury in the Valerie Plame c ase. Explaining that he had obtained last-minute "personal consent" from his source, Cooper was able to avoid a jail sentence for contempt of co urt. Another reporter, Judith Miller of The New York Times, refused to i dentify her source and chose to go to jail instead. For two years, a federal prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald, has been investi gating the leak of Plame's identity as an undercover CIA agent. The leak was first reported by columnist Robert Novak on July 14, 2003. Novak ap parently made some arrangement with the prosecutor, but Fitzgerald conti nued to press other reporters for their sources, possibly to show a patt ern (to prove intent) or to make a perjury case. I didn't le ak her name," Rove told CNN last year when asked if he had anything to d o with the Plame leak. Rove has never publicly acknowledged talking to a ny reporter about former ambassador Joseph Wilson and his wife. las t From the article: NEWSWEEK obtained a copy of the e-mail that Cooper sent his bureau chief after speaking to Rove. Cooper wrote that Rove offered him a "big warnin g" not to "get too far out on Wilson." Rove told Cooper that Wilson's tr ip had not been authorized by "DCIA"CIA Director George Tenetor Vice P resident Dick Cheney. View Replies To: West Coast Conservative Nothing in the Cooper e-mail suggests that Rove used Plame's name or knew she was a covert operative. Hair-splitting on whether or not he actually used her name seems pretty p ointless to me; I think he's on safer ground when it comes to whether or not he knew she was a covert operative. Cooper's version of what Rove said gives no indi cation that Rove was aware of that. View Replies To: West Coast Conservative Don't we wish the media were as diligent in searching for other informati on, like Hillary's college thesis or Kerry's military records? I guess t hey can't do everything so they just concentrate on conservative Republi cans. View Replies Comment #9 Removed by Moderator To: CWOJackson I wouldn't be surprised if this claim about Rove ends up in a deadlock wi th Cooper saying "he identified Wilson's wife" and Rove saying "no, I di d not identify Wilson's wife." In that case, I would certainly believe R ove instead of Cooper. I won't express any opinions about anyone's motiv es in this case, but you know all about their motives anyway. View Replies To: misspetunia "Sounds like Rove did blow cover which is a violation of the law. I believe Rove's earlier statements and I don't believ e some troll who signed up for FR just this morning. View Replies To: carl in alaska Yep, it's may boil down to who to believe. Karl Rove or the guy who spoke to him under the double dipped chocolate super sized secret cone of sil ence. CWOJackson Yeah, that phrase "double super secret background" is very strange and do esn't sound like something a real journalist would actually use in an em ail. Do we have another journalistic fabrication here, similar to the ph ony Bush national guard papers? We all know how desperately liberals want to take down Karl Rove. View Replies To: West Coast Conservative From the headline, I thought Rove was toast. Maybe it doesn't matte r if Rove called Cooper because Rove's obvious intent was to set Cooper straight on Cheney's non-existent role in sending Wilson to Niger. "Nothing in the Cooper e-mail suggests that Rove used Plame's name or kne w she was a covert operative. View Replies To: CWOJackson *giggling* naw, I have lost my sanity -- happened a while back, but I am fixing to take a couple of weeks off too -- I have to -- moving to Missi ssippi and this computer has to get packed tomorrow afternoon because th at huge van line willbe here at 7:00AM. View Replies Comment #31 Removed by Moderator To: Mind-numbed Robot; West Coast Conservative Don't we wish the media were as diligent in searching for other informati on, like Hillary's college thesis or Kerry's military record Very true. Maybe they could work on looking into Jayna Davis' work on OKC or the wherabouts of the very interesting Carol Howe............ View Replies To: West Coast Conservative Nothing in the Cooper e-mail suggests that Rove used Plame's name or knew she was a covert operative. The tale will be told when Mr Mandy Grunwald testifies and if he tells the truth (big "if"). The way I read it, Rove pointed Miller in Plame's direction and Miller took it fr om there. Somebody else gave him Plame's name and background as a CIA se ret agent. View Replies To: CWOJackson Vicksburg, - high on the bluff overlooking the Mississippi. Reguarding this stilly case, I think Miller leaked to Novak, who told Rov e and Rove told Cooper and now Miller can't up and admit that she starte d the whole thang, so off to jail she goes. View Replies To: dulcerevenge77 Wilson obviously isn't worried about stalkers and such. He wrote a book, has authored many columns, and consented to many magazine interviews, so me with photos of him and his wife. He seems to relish his new found cel ebrity, and he's certainly profiting from it. Another big spread is comi ng out this month, oh and by the way, Valerie Plame still works for the CIA. If I recall that's where the USS Cairo is (an ironc lad from the northern war of aggression or whatever it is the Civil War is being called this week) Congratulations! When we were stationed in Norlin's we took a trip up through some of the Civil War sites in Mississippi. View Replies To: Jim Robinson Oh the bad boys and girls are cropping up all over this morning, aren't t hey? But what a s wift and sure job the moderators are doing. of course tha t's probably because we live in the Seattle area. Lately we've been thinking of moving to Elizabeth City, NC. Nice quiet town, protected from Hurricanes by the Outer Banks but near enough to the coast to get there easily, close to the Norfolk area.
