6/6 It is impossible not to be reminded of the classic Jewish joke
about the Jewish mother in Russia taking leave of her son, who
has been called up to serve the Czar in the war against Turkey.
"Don't overexert yourself'" she implores him, "Kill a Turk and
rest. Kill another Turk and rest again…"
"But mother," the son interrupts, "What if the Turk kills me?"

2/20 Ok serious question, NOT political. This is straight up procedural.
Has it been declared that we didn't find WMD in iraq? (think so).
So why did we go into iraq (what was the gain), and if nobody really
knows, why is nobody looking for the reason?
\_ Political stability, military strategy (Iran), and to prevent

AP Netanyahu Changed Plans Due to Warning By AMY TEIBEL, Associated Press Writer Thu Jul 7, 7:14 AM ET JERUSALEM - British police told the Israeli Embassy in London minutes bef ore Thursday's explosions that they had received warnings of possible te rror attacks in the city, a senior Israeli official said. Benjamin Netanyahu had planned to attend an economic conference in a hotel over the subway s top where one of the blasts occurred, and the warning prompted him to st ay in his hotel room instead, government officials said. Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said he wasn't aware of any Israeli casual ties. Just before the blasts, Scotland Yard called the security officer at the Israeli Embassy to say they had received warnings of possible attacks, t he official said. He did not say whether British police made any link to the economic conference. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the nature of his position. The Israeli Embassy was in a state of emergency after the explosions in L ondon, with no one allowed to enter or leave, said the Israeli ambassado r to London, Zvi Hefet. All phone lines to the embassy were down, said Danny Biran, an Israeli Fo reign Ministry official. The ministry set up a situation room to deal with hundreds of phone calls from concerned relatives. Thousands of Israelis are living in London or visiting the city at this time, Biran said. LONDON, England Britain's Jewish community is on high alert after London was besieged by a string of terrorist attacks this morning. Leading community figures are thought to be formulating an emergency secu rity strategy, but insiders are remaining tight-lipped. Mike Whine, of the Community Security Trust (CST), said, "We are still ge tting all the details through and an assessment of the situation is bein g made. "The Jewish Emergency Support Service, a bereavement organization establi shed to cope with major incidents, is up and working, but has not had to do anything so far." He added, "We have advised the Jewish community to go about its business as normal, but to be extra vigilant. "There are extra security measures being put in place from today, but peo ple should carry on with their lives." Finance Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Israel's Ambassador to London, Zv i Hefetz, were due to attend a conference at a hotel near Liverpool Stre et Station where one of the blasts occurred. The explosion took place near the Great Eastern Hotel, where Netanyahu wa s due to attend the fourth Israel Opportunity Conference. There were reports on Israel Radio that Scotland Yard had received early warnings of an imminent terrorist attack, and had shared details of thes e warnings with the Israeli Embassy in London. However, staff at the Israeli Embassy have flatly denied the claim. A spokesman said, "We were informed like everybody else, after the explos ions. We were holding a conference, but after the police came to inform us of what had happened we took the appropriate action and decided not t o continue with the conference." The spokesman said the embassy was operating normally, and added, "We are horrified by the callous terror attacks in London this morning. Our tho ughts are with the people of London and the families of those affected. "For anyone concerned about Israeli family or friends, contact the Embass y Emergency Telephone Number: +44 207 957 9581 / 9582." The head office of Britain's Jewish student movement, UJS Hillel, is less than half a kilometer from where one of the blasts ripped through a dou ble-decker bus. Hillel House is based in Endsleigh Street in Central London, which is jus t around the corner from Tavistock Square. Gerry Lucas, operations director for UJS Hillel, said, "There was an enor mous explosion that we heard in this office. We are less than 400 meters from the site of the explosion. "It was very loud and one of our colleagues went to investigate and saw t he bus with all the distressing scenes that people in Israel are unfortu nately very used to." The building, which usually has about 35 people working in it, was almost empty at the time. The Union of Jewish Students (UJS) is currently on a trip to Israel, so there was only a skeleton staff of six people around . Workers were unable to leave the scene due to the work being carried out by forensic officers. Police have also requested that UJS Hillel hand ov er all their CCTV footage to aid the investigation into the attacks. Following the explosions this morning, the Chief Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks issued a heartfelt statement. He said, "These terrible events have brought home to us the full evil tha t terror represents. It is not the weapon of the weak against the strong but the rage of the angry against the defenseless and innocent. "I will be asking all our congregations to say special prayers for the vi ctims and their families this Sabbath. We grieve for the dead, pray for the injured and share our tears with the bereaved."
