Inspired by the launch of what looks to be the final movie in the Star Wars series, the final St ar Trek: Enterprise episode a short while back and the rejuvenated Batt lestar Galactica, this year's contest submissions must have a science f ictionoriented theme. Note that the case mod doesn't have to use themes from any of the three aforementioned titles: Feel free to use any scien ce fiction theme, be it Jules Verne or Vernor Vinge. However, we're stic king with hardcore science fiction themes, so we're not accepting fantas y-themed case mods, so elves, dragons and wizards are a no-go. So if you've been hankering to pull out the Dremel and the paint and star t creating your own PC chassis masterpiece, now is the time. The deadlin e is June 30, 2005, just a bare six weeks away. Existing case mods are a lso eligible, but not commercial products. So if you're selling your cas e mod to the public, that mod wouldn't be eligible.
The grand prize is a Windows Me dia Center 2005 PC, hand built by one of the ExtremeTech editorial staff , whose approximate value will be $2,000. The Grand Prize winner will be announced on July 7, 2005.
